Class of '37 Ties No Match For Time
By today's standards, Jenks High School's class of 1937 was more like an
overcrowded homeroom section than a senior class.
The group of 41 students came up during the Great Depression and developed
bonds that are still strong 50 years later.
Nearly half, 19 to be exact, attended the class's golden reunion Nov. 28
at the high-school cafeteria. Although many still live in the Tulsa area,
three alumni traveled from points as distant as California and Las Vegas
to rekindle memories.
Class members attended the annual Jenks alumni banquet before branching off
to a private reception at the seniors center at Jenks City Hall.
Carl Kaufman, a class of 1937 alumnus, said memories begun running freely
when classmates pored over class photos. "We had a gala time," he
said. "You couldn't beat that. You could just see happiness everywhere.
"My son came down and took a video tape of the whole thing, and there was
so much noise you could hardly hear yourself think."
Reunion organizers reached all but five living members of their class. Eight
were unable to attend the reunion, but will be invited to a class picnic
this summer, Kaufman said. Nine members of the class are believed to be deceased
he said.
