BEAMES, A.W. Tishomingo- Funeral services for A.W. "Bois D'Arc" Beames. lifelong Choctaw coach and educator, were held December 13, 1978, in Fletcher Hall at Murray State College. Beames married the former Miss Hazel WILLIS on May 4, 1921 in Tishomingo. She Survives him. Other survivors include a daughter; three sons, Ben, Bob and Sid; 12 grandchildren; nine great   grandchildren; two brothers, Calvin and Charles. Interment was in the Tishomingo cemetery.


August 1979

CHRISTIE, Coleman George Coleman George CHRISTIE, 71, of Keota, died August 23 in Talihina Indian Hospital. Services were held August 25 in Mallory Funeral Chapel in Stigler with the Rev. L. A. Watson officiation. Burial was in Simon Isaac Cemetery near   McCurtain. Born Sept 14, 1907, in Valliant, Christie was a retired farmer and a Warld War II veteran. Survivors include wife, Ethel; one   son Vernon; one daughter, Leona; and three half-brothers, Walter, Luke and Nelson.


September 1979

JAMES, Mrs. Lissie Mrs. Lissie JAMES, Quinton, Ok., died Sept. 18 at the Talihina Indian hospital, at the age of 68. Mrs. JAMES was born Feb. 24, 1911, at Daisy, Ok.a Survivors include five daughters, six sons; three sisters and three brothers. She was preceded in   death by her husband Jackson JAMES, Sr., in 1970. Burial at Lequire cemetery.


October 1979

AARON, Alex William Alex William AARON, 82, Valliant, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the Valliant Nursing Center following an extended illness. Born March 9, 1897 at Fort Towson, C.N., I.T., he had lived in Valliant five years, moving from Choctaw County. Survivors include   two sons, three daughters, 16 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Interment was in Hampton Chapel cemetery.

COLEMAN, Amelia Jane Amelia Jane COLEMAN, a native of Skullyville, Indian Territory, died Oct. 4 at the age of 96 in the P.H.S Indian Hospital. She was married in 1905 at Shady Point and was preceded in death by her husband, Haden, and four children. Mrs. Coleman was one of the last widows of the Spanish War. She is survived by four children; Carl, El Friea, LaFaye,and Tom; 24 grandchildren, 38   great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and one sister, Ola. Burial was in the Talihina Cemetery. Mrs. Coleman, born in 1883, was older than the town of Talihina. Skullyville, her birthplace, was "money town" where Choctaw received their government payments a few miles upriver from Fort Smith.

BILLY, Barbara Ann Barbara Ann BILLY of Rattan, Oklahoma, died at the age of 37 at Pushmataha Hospital. She was born at Spencerville, Oklahoma, June 20, 1952. She had lived in this area all her life. Surviving relatives include her husband, Delton; one son, Darrell; two daughters, Theresa and Lisa; one grandchild, Kyle; one brother, Ross; five sisters, Oma, Donna, Connie, Billie and Becky; her mother, Jewell; and a grandfather, Anderson. Sevices were held in the Rattan Gymnasium with interment following at the Rattan Cemetery

BILLY, Ephriam Ephriam BILLY, 97 of Talihina, died Jan. 19 at the Choctaw Nation Indian Hospital in Talihina. He was born Sept. 20, 1891 in LeFlore County, Indian Territory. He was a lifetime resident of the Talihina area. Survivors include three daughters, two sons; a sister, Loucinda STERLING; a brother, W.C.BILLY.


November 1989

COOPER, Henry Edward Henry Edward COOPER, 89, was born 4-9-1900, and passed away 11-9-89. He married Elisie in 1920 and they lived in Kinta until 1929 when they moved to Tulare, California. Their first baby, Marie, died at one month of age and was buried in   Kinta. He is survivored by his wife, Elsi M.; two sons, Robert T. and James; three daughters, Juanita and Loeta; 17 grandchildren, 31   great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Henry is buried in Visalia Cemetery. When he was just a little boy, Henry was nicknamed Chock because he was a Choctaw Indian. Both his parents died when he was very young and he was placed in the care of his grandmother, Elizabeth WHITE MAO. Always proud of his Choctaw heritage, he spoke his native language until age 9, when his   grandmother helped him learn English.

BAUCOM, Lue Ella Lue Ella BAUCOM, of Calera, 90. Mrs. Baucom was born December 24, 1899, in Wetumka, Oklahoma and moved to Bryan County in 1957 from Pushmataha County. A husband, Sam BOHANON, died in April 1924. Also preceding Mrs. Baucom in death were her husband, George Baucom, son Robert BOHANON, and a grandson. Surviving are two daughters, a son; 11 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.

BRONAUGH, Malcolm, Sr. Malcolm "Mack" D. Bronaugh Sr., a master optician, died at his North Richland Hills residence. He was 83. The funeral was at Greenwood Chapel, and entombment was at Greenwood Mausoleum. Mr. Bronaugh was born in Vanoss, Oklahoma, and had lived in the Fort Worth area since 1947. He was a member of the Choctaw Indian Tribe. Survivors include his wife, Thelma; two sons, Malcolm and Richard; daughter Betty; sister, Franciel ; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren

BATTIEST, Marcus Funeral services have been held for Marcus Battiest, 70, of Wright City. Battiest was born October 6, 1920 at Mt.Herman. He married Rachel Watson on September 2, 1946 at Idabel. He is survived by his wife, Rachel; two sons, Marcus and Kenneth; two daughters, Oleta and Naomi; one brother, Calvin; one sister, Catherine; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

HANSARD, David Sr. Mr. HANSARD died January 7, 1990, at Muskogee. He was born August 11, 1933, in Whitewright, Texas, to William Eugene and Vera Estelle WILLIAMS HANSARD. Grandparents are Wilson and Fern WILLIAMS, Choctaws from Coalgate.

BOHANAN, Lyndon Earl Funeral services were held January 22, 1990 for Lyndon Earl Bohanan, 44, a former Eagletown resident. Mr. Bohanan, a veteran of Vietnam, died in Seattle, Washington. Survivors include his wife, Annette, daughter Tamara and sons Timothy and Thomas; his mother, Carrie Belle and sisters Toka and Daisy along with several nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Family Cemetery with a Marice Corps honor guard.

CALDWELL, Willie Willie "Buddy" CALDWELL, 63, died Jan. 29, 1990, at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center at Poteau. Mr. Caldwell was born in Rufe, he was a member of the Yasho United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II. Survivors included his wife, Hannah June; three sons, James Earl, Jerry Don, and Jonathan Nail; two daughters, Carolyn and Junell; one brother, Zeedark; and one sister, Christine. Also surviving are six grandchildren.

BATTIEST, Hodges Services were held Thursday, February 15 for Hodges Battiest, 77. Battiest was a resident of McCurtain County all his life. Survivors include three sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren,


April 1990

BOHANON, Ray J. Ray J. BOHANON of Sacramento, California, passed away at the age of 69 on Wednesday, April 18th. Bohanon was raised in Hugo, and moved to Durant in 1953. His birthplace was Grant, Oklahoma. He was preceeded in death by his parents, H.J. and Hettie Bohanon and a brother, Reid Bohanon. Survivors include two daughters, Gladys and Francine; a son William; 11 grandchildren and several great- and great-great- grandchildren.


May, 1990

WELCH, Ernest L. Ernest L. WELCH, born December 7, 1898 in Summerfield, Oklahoma died May 8, 1990 in Modesto, California. As a boy he attended Jones Academy at Hartshorne, Oklahoma. Survivors include six children; ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

CHRISTY, Eli Eli CHRISTY, 76, of Muskogee, former Rocky Point resident, died Saturday, May 12 in Muskogee. CHRISTY was born and reared at Rocky Point near McCurtain. Burial, with military honors, was in Stigler City Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Effie; two daughters, Tandy and Chris; one step-son, Don; two sisters, Linda and Julie; one brother, Tommy and a step-mother, Helem; Christy is also survived by one cousin, Oscar and several grandchildren.

Chester CROSBY, Sr., 77, Wright City, a retired rancher, civic leader and longtime rodeo producer, died May 13 in McCurtain Memorial Hospital. Crosby was born Dec. 16, 1913 in Broken Bow to Ernest and Lola Crosby. He father was a longtime train master for Dierks Lumber & Coal Company. Crosby was a graduate of Wright City High School and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wright City, where he served as chairman of the board for many years. A rancher, civic leader and rodeo producer for many years at leading rodeos throughout the Southwest, Chester was a Gold Card member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (P.R.C.A). After his retirement he served as field manager for Production Credit Association. He was a longtime member of the McCurtain County Excise Board, McCurtain Fair Board; a member of the Masonic Lodge and was one of the founders of the Wright City State Bank. In recent years he had retired to his ranch north of Wright City. He is survived by his wife, Eva; one son, Chester; one daughter, Jo Ann; one brother, Bill and five grandchildren.

BATTIEST, Andrea Kay Funeral services were held for Andrea Kaye Battiest on Monday, August 6, at the First Methodist Church of Broken Bow. Born April 4, 1970 in Dallas, Texas, she was a member of the First Methodist Church. She is Survived by her parents, Austin and Barbara; one brother, Edwin; her paternal grandmother, Elsie; and maternal grandparents.

COCHNAUER, Lawrence Lawrence COCHNAUER, 72, passed away Dec. 18 at his home in Grandfield. The son of Nicholas and Sally DUDLEY COCHNAUER, he was born on May 1, 1918, in Bennington, Oklahoma, where he grew up and attended school. He moved to the Grandfield area in 1939, and he had lived there for the remainder of his life. He was a former Tillman County employee, and was a retired farm laborer. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from Dec. 19, 1939 to August 29, 1942. He was a member of Grandfield Calvary Baptist Chruch. He was married to Rose MCGARRY on June 1, 1943 in Frederick. Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann; a step-daughter, Neoma; a stepson, Bill; a brother, Lon and five grandchildren. One son, Jacky, preceded him in death in May, 1984.


December 1990

CLARK, James James(Jack) CLARK passed away on Dec. 23, 1990 after a lengthy illness. Born in Jasper, Oklahoma on July 18, 1910,he moved to Los Angeles, California in 1943. He retired from Dillon Wells Inc., in 1975 where he had been employed as a salesman. Jack was President of the Former Students of Goodland Alumni. He cherished his childhood friends from Goodland and Jones Academy and often shared fond memories of those friendships. He was very proud of his Choctaw heritage. He is survived by his wife, Odessa, two daughters, four grandsons, four sisters and many nieces and nephews.

HARRISON, Elliott Elliott HARRISON of Hochatown, Oklahoma, passed away March 4, 1991. He is survived by his wife, Juanita BEAVERS HARRISON and two daughters. Elliott was born March 24, 1915 at Marlow, Oklahoma. Interment was at Hochatown Cemetery.


May 1991

CALDWELL, Stephen W. Stephen W. CALDWELL, 3/4 Choctaw of Valliant, Oklahoma, age 80, died at his home May 4, 1991. Mr.Caldwell was born Sept. 12, 1910 in Rufe, Oklahoma. He was the son of Willie J. and Mary Ann WALLACE CALDWELL. He lived in McCurtain County for years. His employment had been with the Weyerhaeuser at Wright City, Oklahoma. He retired after working there for 20 years. He married Marietta THOMPSON in 1934, she died June 16, 1989. Burial at High Hill Indian Cemetery near Spencerville, Oklahoma. Survivors include two brothers, C.W. and Coleman; and adopted son Johnn and numerous nephews and nieces.


December 1991

BIRCHFIELD, Ophelia Crowder Ophelia Crowder Birchfield, an original enrollee, age 96, died December 24, 1991. Burial was in Farris Community Cemetery. She was a great-granddaughter of Patsy GOINS and Eli CROWDER, who settled among the Choctaws before the War of 1812. He married first Margaret DURANT and then Patsy GOINS, fathering large families with each wife. Ophelia CROWDER was born November 10, 1895, in the Choctaw Nation near Hugo. She married Jay Birchfield. Preceeding her in death were: her father, Martin B. Crowder, who died in 1969 at the age of 98; all of her siblings and almost all of her generation of friends and relatives; her husband, who died in 1960; most of her children (John, Elmer, Eula Nowlin, Lee, Edgar and several infants); and a number of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Alene and by her two youngest sons, James and Bunnie.

BILLY, David Lee David Lee Billy, 29, of Mena, Arkansas and a former resident of Battiest, Oklahoma died in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr.Billy was born in Battiest, Oklahoma and had lived in that area for most of his life. David L. Billy was preceded in death by his father, Louis Billy in 1974; a brother James Billy in 1985; and two sisters, Loretta Billy in 1985 and Linda WILLIS in 1986. Survivors include his wife, Regina; his mother, Lucy; a step-son, Terry; a daughter Rosemary; two brothers, Kenneth and Elvis; and two sisters, Alice and Alice Burial was at St.John's cemetery in Rufe, Oklahoma.

MCCOY, Grant Grant "Big Chief" McCOY, 72, of Nipomo, died June 8, 1992, Dallas, Texas. Mr. McCoy was born on March 3, 1920, in Sawyer, Oklahoma and had been an area resident since 1941, coming from Bakersfield. He is survived by his two daughters, one son; his brothers: Andy, Leon and Oscar PULLIAM; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera McCOY in 1990 and his son Bill Joe McCOY in 1941.

BOHANAN, Silas William Silas Billy William Bohanan, 91, died Friday, July 3, 1992. Born in Kinta, September 25, 1900 to Joseph and Mary COOPER Bohanan, he was a retired general labor worker. He was preceded in death by one brother, Sim Bohanan and two daughters, Wila Wyat and Roxie Bohanan. Survivors include two daughters, Mary and Beatrice; three sons, George,Billy and Colen ; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.


July 1992

CHOATE, Everidge Alexander Everidge Alexander CHOATE, of Oleta, Oklahoma, died on July 15, 1992 at the Choctaw Nation Indian Hospital in Talihina, Oklahoma. He was born Feb. 10, 1910 in Nashoba, Oklahoma. He lived in the Oleta community most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dana THOMAS CHOATE and his son, Johnny CHOATE. He is survived by two daughters, Virginia and Marietta; three step-daughters, Juanita, Agnes and Juanita; five sons, Lyman, Thomas, Levi, Floyd and Leon; 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Choate was laid to rest at Corinne Cemetery, Corinne Community, Oklahoma.

BURUM, Frank Services were held for Frank Burum, Choctaw, age 80, on Thursday, August 20, 1992 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Frank was born in Coal County, Lehigh, Oklahoma on January 22, 1912 and passed away at his home on August 17, 1992. He was married to Josephine SUMMERS on May 31, 1942 in Atoka, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife; his son, James; his daughter Sharon; and three grandchildren


September 1992

BLUE, Eli Eli J. Blue, age 91, at Talihina, Oklahoma, was born Jan. 26, 1901 at LeFlore Indian Territory to Willie and Melvina Hudson Blue. He passed away Sep. 16, 1992 at Saint Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, on Sep. 23, 1980 and a son, William J. Blue. Survivors include: two daughters, Anna Lee, and Christine Marie; one son, Jerry; one brother, Charlie; one sister Vernetta; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

COOPER, Elsie Ann Elsie Ann COOPER, born Sept.2, 1895, was buried in Heavener on Sept. 15, 1992. She is survived by her sister,Wanda; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Elsie was a lifetime resident of the Loving Community, and a charter member of the Loving Baptist Church

ANDERSON, Ben Bernie Ben Bernie Anderson passed away in Chico on Saturday, November 21. He was 69. Mr. Anderson was born in Pittsburg, Oklahoma on September 26, 1923. Survivors include his wife,four children; brothers, Osborne and Otis; sisters, Ruby, Rosetta, Rosemary, Ruth, and Rowena; and seven grandchildren. Burial at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Corning.

BILLY, Rosie M. Rosie M. Billy, 75, of Bennington, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 1992. She was born May 30, 1917 to Willie A. James and Mary WILLIAMS JAMES. She and DeWitt Billy were married Feb. 4, 1938 in Jackson, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1962 and two sons, Charles Billy in 1992 and Hirman Billy in 1957. Survivors include two sons, Virgil and DeWitt; one daughter, Dorlores; one sister, Lena; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Interment at Sulphur Spings cemetery.

BUCKHOLTS, Elbert Jennings Elbert Jennings "Buck" Buckholts, age 86, of Duncan, died Friday, January 15, 1993 at home. Buckholts was born November 21, 1906 in Elmore City, Indian Territory. He married Minnie Maurine Myers October 8, 1930 in Marlow. He is survived by his wife, Minnie; three daughters, Jo Ann, Jenann and George Ann; one son, E.J.; one brother, Walter Howell; four sisters, Mae, Eva Gay, Ruth and Dorothy; one niece, Kitty; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren


Febraury 1993

BENTON, Vira Willis Vira Willis Benton was born July 31, 1903 near Whitesboro, Indian Territory. She was an original enrollee of the Choctaw Nation. She passed away at the Choctaw Nation Indian Hospital, Talihina, Oklahoma on February 5, 1993 at the age of 89years, 6 mos and 5 days. She was married to Nathan Hill Benton, Sr. in 1937 at Muse, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev.Nathan Hill Benton, Sr. on May 25, 1986. Her survivors include one step-daughter, one step-son, 7 grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

CAMPBELL, Marvin Eugene Marvin Eugene CAMPBELL, born April 22, 1926 in Denison, Texas to the late Emory and Leona CAMPBELL, died on March 11, 1994 in Manteca, California. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son. He is survived by his wife, Lynda; two daughters, Jeannie and Debbie; three sons, Carl, William and Ronald; one brother, Delbert; two sisters, Pat and Betty; and 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

COMPULUBE, W.K. W.K. (Buck) COMPULUBE was born on March 17, 1926 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Bettis COMPULUBE and Willie COOK. He passed away on April 14, 1994 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

CARRUTH, Ora Mae Ora Mae "Pokey" CARRUTH, age 66 of Talihina, Oklahoma was born on April 10, 1927 at Battiest, Oklahoma to Larton and Encie WATSON CARNEY. She passed away April 5, 1994 at the Choctaw Nation Indian Hospital, Talihina, Oklahoma. She   was preceded in death by her husband, Robert CARRUTH, one sister, Edith Marie ALEXANDER and on brother, Jimmy Dale WATSON. Her survivors are two sisters, Daisy and Luci; Annie and Lena; one half-brother, Wallace.

BAKER, Melvina Colbert Melvina Colbert Baker, 84, of Stigler, Oklahoma died Aril 16, 1994 at Wilburton, Oklahoma. She was born October 15, 1909 at Talihina, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her husband, Houston, in October 1970, two sons, Ralph and Robert Baker, and a daughter, Velda Baker. She is survived by a daughter, Mildred; two sons, Johnny and Houston; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.


JULY 11, 1994

CARTER, Bobby Bobby CARTER, age 46, of Talihina, Oklahoma was born Oct. 26, 1947 in Talihina, to Crawford Lee and Anna MCINTOSH CARTER. He passed away on July 11, 1994 at his home in rural Talihina. He had been a lifetime resident of the Talihina area. His employment had been with Indian Health Service as a property/management specialist. He had worked there for 26 years until his retirement in June 1994. He was an honorably discharged Viet-Nam Veteran. He was a member of the Greenhill Baptist Church where he held a number of various offices. Preceding him in death are his wife, Geraldine and daughter, Carrie and step-sons Joseph and Jerry Bob Tallant. He is survived by one step-daughter, Connie; one step-son, David; two brothers, Edward L. and Donald L.; two sisters, Glenda and Linda.

CARTER, Geraldine Geraldine Ann"Geri" CARTER, age 48, of Talihina, Oklahoma was born on Oct. 29, 1945 in Wright City, Oklahoma to Stephen and Martha Baker McKenzie. She passed away July 11, 1994 at her home in rural Talihina. She was an active member of the Greenhill Baptist Church. Her employment for 7 years had been with the Oklahoma Veterans Center as a Nurses Aide. She was a dealer in "Jaffra"cosmetics. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Martha McKenzie, husband, Bobby, daughter Carrie Ann and two sons, Joseph and Jerry Bob Tallant. She is survived by one daughter, Connie, two sons, Mike and David; one ex-daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; three sisters, Isabel, Faye and Liz; one brother, Ted; nine grandchildren and many friends and loved ones.

CARTER, Carrie Ann Carrie Ann CARTER, age 9, of Talihina, Oklahoma was born on June 1, 1985 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Bobbyand Geraldine Ann MCKENZIE CARTER. She passed away on July 11, 1994 at her parents home in rural Talihina. She was a student in the third grade at Talihina Public School. She was a member of the Greenhill Baptist Church. School activities included being a member of the "Talihina Twirlers". Preceding her in death were her parents, Bobby and Geri and two brothers, Joseph and Jerry Bob Tallant. Her survivors include one sister, Connie; one brother, David; and several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many friends.

CARNES, Amos Edwin Amos Edwin CARNES was born March 31, 1939 in Talihina, Oklahoma to Ellis CARNES, Sr. and Evelyn BOHANNON COLE. He passed away Nov. 27, 1996. He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis CARNES, Sr.; his step-father, Wilson COLE; and his brother, Thomas COLE. Survivors include his wife, Okpun, his mother, Evelyn; two daughters, Frlicia and Brenda; his son, Jerry; four sisters, Louise, Ellen, Elizabeth and Ellie; two brothers, Ellis and Mark; and four grandchildren, Danniell, Cameron, J.R. and Logan.

BLAINE, Georgia Caroline Georgia Caroline White Blaine was born on March 2, 1908 and passed away on April 24, 1996 at home. Her father was George WHITE, and mother was Mary SUTTON. Her husband, James, died in 1985. In the late 1950's, they returned to the family home in Huntington Park to look after Georgia's mother, Mary. Georgia and James had three sons: Jimmie (who died in May 1995 at his home in Martha's Vineyard); John and Jud. Her adopted sons and daughters included Penny, Raquel, Jeanette and Kelly, Eric and Tim, Karen and Katherine; she had one great-granddaughter, Bethany and three great-grandchildren, Katherine, Todd and Tasha. She had eight grandchildren who are Timothy, Gregory, Karen, Aaron, Matthew, Judson, Josh and Megan.

BRAY, Alga Lena METCALF Alga Lena METCALF BRAY was born on November 20, 1916 in Bokchito, Oklahoma. She passed away on July 22, 1996 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Harry N. Metcalf and Eva Lena MIDDLETON METCALF. Her maternal grandparents were Charlie and Agnes MAYTUBBY MIDDLETON of the Antlers area. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, H.N. METCALF, Jr. and an infant daugher, Norma June.

BEDWELL, Allen Lee Allen Lee Bedwell, 49 of Vacaville, California was born on Sep. 10 1946 in Richmond and died August 30, 1996 after a sudden illness. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; sons, Bryan Lee and Matthew; brothers, Billy and David; and a sister, Darla. BARNES, Harold James Harold James Barnes, Jr., 51, of Canoga Park, California passed away on August 30, 1996 in his home. Survivors include his parents, five sisters, Lahoma, Carolyn, Katherine, Barbara and Marilyn; two brothers, Olen and Perry.

BAKER, Johnny Ray Johnny Ray Baker passed away on Oct. 29, 1996 in Oklahoma City at the age of 59 years. He was born on Sep.13, 1937 to Aaron and Chincey Baker in Battiest, Oklahoma. He is survived by one son, Steven; two daughters, Chrischelle and Sheri, and two granddaughters, Courtnie and Stevanna.

BURDICK, Bessie Lorene Bessie Lorene Burdick, 77 of Panama, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996 in Panama. She was the widow of Warren Burdick. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia and Connie; two sons, Donnie and Dennis; two brothers, Sonny and James; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.

CARR, Scottye Maurice Scottye Maurice CARR, age 66, of Gilbert, Arkansas passed away on December 6, 1996. She was born on January 20, 1930 in Soper, Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband, Wendell; three sons, Johnny, Michael and Maurice; one sister, Marcille and nine grandchildren.

BOHOANAN, Jesse Lional Jesse Lionel Bohoanan, age 40, of Quinton, Oklahoma died in Fort Smith, Arkansas on Jan. 5, 1997. He was born on May 15, 1956 to George L. and Florida Lilliam BUSH BOHANAN at Bakersfield, California. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Sila William Bohanan; grandmother, Altie (Miller) Bohanan and grandfather, Jessie Bush. Survivors include his wife, Genea; four children, Kimberly, Jesse, Calvin and Keely; his parents, George and Lillian; one sister, Luetta; one brother, William L.; his grandmother, Pearl and two grandchildren.

BATTIEST, George George Battiest was born on January 6, 1916 in Bethel, Oklahoma and passed away on January 21, 1997 in Wright City, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife; four sons, Vernie, Wayne, Sam and Rickey; two daughters, Nettie and Mattie and one brother, Johnson.

BULLY, Arnold Arnold Mitchell Bully, age 54, of Bennington, Oklahoma was born on April 21, 1942. He passed away on March 17, 1997 in Durant, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Bully and one brother. Survivors include his mother; three sons; Randy, Jeffrey and Jeremy; one daughter, Vonna; five grandsons and one granddaughter; six sisters, Bernice, Phyllis, Eleanor, Verna, JoAnn and Louella; two brothers, James and Claude.

BROWN, Denny L. Denny L. BROWN, died suddenly on Feb. 1. He is survived by his mother and father, Steven and Bertha; his wife of 37 years, Mary; four children: Lynne, Shelley, Steve and Ted; and four grandchildren. BOHANON, Milway Earl Milway Earl "Chilly Bean" BOHANON, 32, was born Sep. 22, 1957, at Talihina, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony C. BOHANON, in 1970 and his mother, Rena STEWART BOHANON in 1976. His is survived by four brothers, Kenneth, Lewis and Solomon; three sisters, Ruth, Linda and Mary.

BEAMES, James Prentice James Prentice "Jim" Beames, 70, of Bokchito, Oklahoma was born on August 6, 1926 in Bennington, Oklahoma to George Washington and Mary Ethel RHODES Beames. He married Jean L. DODSON on May 17, 1947 in Sherman, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Twyla Mae Beames, brothers, George A. Beames and Billy Gene Beames and a sister, Juanita Cox.

ANDERSON, Harrison Ray Harrison Ray "Andy" Anderson, 78, of Centerton, Arkansas passed away. He was born on February 18,1918 in Yanush, Oklahoma to James Henry and Ella Mangrum Anderson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jewell WILSON, and three sisters. His father was an original enrollee. Survivors include his wife, Flossie, of the home; daughters Diana, Valeria, Charlsie, Billie and Carol; one brother, E. J.; 25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.


CRAWFORD
Lonnie H. Crawford, age 73, of Crystal, Oklahoma passed away Sunday. Feburary 28, 1999 at the McCuistion Regional Medica Center in Paris, Texas.
Lonnie was born July 29 1925 in Atoka County, Oklahoma to Arthur Crawford and Zada M. (Deaton) Crawford. He was raised in Choctaw County and moved to California in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his tour of duty, he married Oleta Wright on May 11, 1946 in Kerman, California. He worked as a carpenter and farmer for most of his life.
Lonnie built two houses for himself and built five move houses for family over the years. He moved back to Crystal from California in 1974 an spent most of his time raising cattle. He was a member of the Atoka VFW post.
He preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy 'buddy' Don Crawford.
Survivors include his wife, Oleta of the home; three daughters, Janice Smith of Olympia, Washington, Judy Herrington of Watts, Oklahoma and Tammy Alvarez of Hugo, Oklahoma, two brothers, "Sonny" Crawford of Roseburg, Oklahoma and "Billy" Crawford of San Francisco, California; three sisters, Joyce Parsons and Verna, both of California, and Mildred Hollister of Texas; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
