Asbby S. JAMES, aged 46 years, died at 5 o'clock yesterday morning
at his residence, 1701 Guadalupe Street, after an illness of several weeks.
He was a prominent and successful lawyer, a man of strong personality, one
who stood by his friends and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He
was born in Virginia but came to Austin as a boy and attended Texas Military
Institute in West Austin, of which his brother was then in charge. After
finishing here he attended the law school of the University of Virginia and
graduated in the same class with Senator Joseph W. BAILEY. Returning
to Texas he practiced law for several years in Colorado City, Mitchell county,
and then went to Wichita Falls, where he served several terms very successfully
as county attorney of Wichita county. He returned to Austin several years
ago and formed a law partnership with E.H. YEISER, devoting his attention
largely to land practice. He was an active member of St. David's Episcopal
church. While in Wichita Falls he was married to Miss DUNNINGTON of
that city, who survives him with two sons, George R. JAMES, aged about
20 years and Asbby Minor JAMES, aged about 18 years. The funeral will
be held at 6 o'clock this afternoon from the family residence and will be
conducted by the Rev. T.B. LEE. Interment in Oakwood cemetery.
