Spychalski writes, "Here are two photos of ladies with certain ties to Lebanon, or at least Warren County, Ohio. Both photos are marked by photographer labels as being in Lebanon. The older woman had her photo taken by Slater. The two younger ladies had their photos taken by Steddom. I have no names for them but because they were from photos inherited from my Great Grandmother who lived in Carroll County, Indiana, I believe they were related to one of four families who moved from Turtle Creek Twp., Warren County, Ohio to Carrollton Twp., Carroll Co., Indiana. They are the Bone, Dill, Lefevre and McCain families. These families inter-married in Warren County and some of them then moved to Carroll County, Indiana. If you can ever put names to these people, I would appreciate learning who they are. I have other photos of people who are named from the above families and I will send them by separate e-mail. Adam Bone (1815-1886) This is a photo of my 3rd great grandfather, Adam Bone. He was born in Turtle Creek Township, Warren County, Ohio, and lived there until moving to Carroll County, Indiana in 1846 and lived in Carrollton Township there until his death in 1886. He was the son of Cyrus Bone and Sarah McPherson Bone. Cyrus Bone was born in Rowan County, North Carolina 11 Dec., 1785 and moved to Bourbon Co., Kentucky with his family as a young man and it was there he met his future wife, Sarah McPherson. Sarah was the daughter of Jane White and Adam McPherson. Jane White was born about 1760 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. She married Adam McPherson Oct. 13, 1777 in Pennsylvania and they set up housekeeping in Washington/Fayette Counties, PA until around 1790 when they moved to Bourbon Co., KY. They lived there until the Ohio lands opened up around 1800 and then once they acquired their land, they moved north with their Kentucky neighbors into the area which became Warren County. It was on 29, Sept., 1807 in what was Champaign Co., Ohio that Cyrus Bone and Sarah McPherson married and set up their household in Turtle Creek Township, Warren County, Ohio. Adam Bone was their fifth child and second son, being born 21 Oct., 1815. Adam grew to manhood in Turtle Creek Township where he met the daughter of a neighbor, Susan Lefever, fell in love and married her on 22 Feb., 1838. Susan was the youngest daughter of Elias Lefever and Catherine Craver. It may have been the glowing reports of the farmland by Adam's brother-in-law, John Dill McCain, which lured the family from Ohio to Indiana. They left Warren County, Ohio and moved to Carrollton Township, Carroll County, Indiana in 1847 and carved a beautiful farm out of the wilderness. After giving Adam Bone six children, Susan Lefevre Bone died five days after her brother-in-law, John Dill McCain, on 11 Sept., 1855 and was laid to rest in the Beech Grove Cemetery, Sharon, Carroll County, Indiana. Adam Bone married once again on 19 Dec., 1857 to Elizabeth Wagoner, daughter of Martin Wagoner and Roseann Martin. Elizabeth Wagoner was born 10 May, 1833 near Lafayette, Indiana and died 17 January, 1905. Adam and Elizabeth Bone had 4 children. Adam Bone was a staunch Presbyterian, as was his father and his Grandfather McPherson. He was very involved in the organization of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church at Wheeling, Indiana and spent his life in Carrollton Twp. In service to this Church. He passed away 26 Auguat, 1886 and was laid to rest next to his first wife, Susan, at the Beech Grove Cemetery. Also see Descendants of Adam Bone [pdf file] and Adam Bone Obituary |

Sarah (Lefevre) Bone (1816-1855) Sarah Lefevre was born July 18, 1816 in Turtle Creek Township, Warren County, Ohio to Elias Lefevre and Catherine Craver. She was the youngest child in their family of 6 girls and 3 boys. She grew to young womanhood and on the 22 of February, 1838, she married Adam Bone, son of Cyrus and Sarah McPherson Bone. Sarah came from a family of minor fame who’s roots were planted in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Her father, Elias, was born ABT. 1770 in Frederick County, Maryland. His father, also named Elias, was the grandson of Isaac Lefebre and Catherine Fierre, the Huguenots who survived the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre in France and emigrated to first New Paltz, New York and then Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. There is a memorial to this family at the cemetery where they were buried and the Bible Isaac carried with him from his ruined homeland is at the Lancaster County Historical Society. For further information on this family there is a web site maintained by the Lefevre Cemetery and Historical Association found at http://www.pennsylvanialefevres.org/ Sarah’s father, Elias Lefevre, left Maryland with his brothers John, Jacob, Peter, Daniel, Christian and their sister, Catherine, and her husband Jacob Smith, and moved to the newly opened lands of Warren County, Ohio. Here, they planted deep roots and thrived in their communities, spreading their family trees into adjoining counties as the family grew. Sarah and her husband, Adam Bone, had three children by the time they made the decision to move to the newly opened farm lands of Carroll County, Indiana. These three children were Sarah Catherine, b. 9 December, 1838, Elias Lefevre Bone, b. 26 March, 1841 and Leonidas Bone, b. 18 February, 1845. They made their way to their new farm in Carrollton Township and 3 more children were both to this union: Zuinglas, b. 7 December, 1847 and twin daughters Mahala and Isabelle Bone, b. December 19, 1949. Sarah Lefever Bone died at the age of 39 on 11 September, 1855 and was laid to rest in the Beech Grove Cemetery in Sharon, Carroll County, Indiana |

Isaac Newton Wagoner (1838-1924) & Sarah Catherine Bone (1838-1909) Sarah Catherine Bone was the oldest daughter and first born child of Adam Bone and Susan Lefevre. She was born 9 December, 1838 in Turtle Creek, Warren County, Ohio. When she was eight years old she moved with her parents and two brothers to the farm in Carrollton Twp., Carroll County, Indiana where she grew to young womanhood. Sarah's mother, Susan, died in 1855 leaving six young children. On 19 December, 1857, Sarah's father, Adam, married Elizabeth, daughter of neighbor Martin Wagoner and Rosann Martin Wagoner. The two families now combined brought her step-mother's younger brother, Isaac Newton Wagoner, into the circle of acquaintances of Sarah and they fell in love and married 22 Sept., 1864. Isaac Newton Wagoner was born 15 Sept., 1838 in Carrollton Twp., Carroll County, Indiana and spent his entire life on the land his father had bought in 1830 when this part of Indiana was still a heavily wooded wilderness. Isaac Wagoner built a farm on a section of this land his father had given to him and Sarah and to them two children were born, Orion, born 3 January, 1869 and Zulema, born 12 April, 1876. Sarah died March 22, 1909 at her home and was laid to rest in the Deer Creek Cemetery, Deer Creek, Carroll County, Indiana. Isaac Wagoner lived another 15 years before passing away 16 July, 1924. He was laid to rest beside his beloved wife. Descendants of Sarah Catherine Bone [pdf file] by Melanie Spychalski |
