"I noticed on Lyle Faulkner’s information it says WWII
– Actually he served in WWI. He had to lie about his age to
get in.
It's very strange because his gravestone says WWII - I'm thinking
my aunt was confused by that time - I did find him listed on the
list of injured WWI soldiers from Campbell County, KY. (His home
town)"

a noncombat position in the Pacific as a medic and lab technician aboard

"Fugett died Oct. 26, 1944, after his squadron’s
B-24 Liberator bomber was shot down during a mission against a Japanese
fleet near Morotal Island in the South Pacific Ocean. Fugett and
nine other crew members of the Army Air Forces 307th Bombardment
Group were never found. Fugett, 20, spent only 10 days in
his squadron before his plane went down."

"A radio operator, Fugett was just 20 years old
when he was killed during an air strike more than 65 years ago.
The B-24 Liberator Bomber he was in was gunned down on Oct. 26,
1944, over the South Pacific during the Battle of Leyte Gulf - considered
the largest naval engagement of World War II. His entire crew of
nine perished. Although a search was conducted, their bodies were
never found."
