" Last Saturday morning at 11 o'clock nearly a thousand people
from all over the county met at the home of W. L. Kirby at Pekin
to pay tribute to the memory of the late Sargeant. The services
were delivered by Rev. Mr. Bishop, of Columbus. Sargeant Kirby of
the 29th Aero Squadron, U.S.A., son of Webster and Nellie (Hutt)
Kirby was born 3 November 1895 and died at Camp Knox, Ky. aged 23
years, 5 months, and 27 days. April 30, 1919 Early in February last
he came on furlough and while home was united in marriage with Esther
Graham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Graham.
Burial in Springboro Cemetery and two large airplanes were sent
from Dayton as a testimonial of the high esteem in which Sargeant
Kirby was held."
