"Twenty-year-old Jack W. Napier of Franklin is dead.
The youth died a week ago, Thursday, June 6, during hostile action
at Vung Ro in South Vietnam according to word received by his wife
and parents Monday morning.
Napier's death brought the number of Franklin youths killed in Vietnam
to four. The last to die was United States Marine Jonathon
Lowman of 4398 Pennyroyal Road. That was a little over one year
ago.
The first Franklin youth killed in Vietnam was Stephen
Young. The second was Ricky
Gillum. Except for Gillum, all of the deaths have occured near
the Memorial Day holiday, the day set aside in the United States
for honoring the nation's war dead. Gillum died early in 1967.
Napier, of 5294 Robinson Vail Road, had served in the United States
Army since 1964 and at the time of his death, held the rank of Specialist
five.
A graduate of Miamisburg High Schoo, Specialist Napier had made
his home in that community until his entry in the service.

mother.
Besides his wife, young Napier is survived by his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Sim Napier and a sister, Mrs. Irene Hurd, all of Germantown,
and a brother, Paul Napier, of Canton.
Funeral arrangements are still indefinite at the Eaton Funeral Home.
