John M. F. Liddil

Comrade Joins Ranks Above.

John Liddil Dies at Military Home and Is Buried at Lebanon with the Honors of a Soldier.

John M. F. Liddil, 61, died suddenly from heart failure on last Friday in the National Military Home at Dayton after having lived there six weeks. His funeral was held from the G. A. R. hall on Monday afternoon at one o’clock. A staunch little band of veterans in blue, escorting the body, made again the march to the last resting place of their comrades.

John Liddil loved the Post and every thing connected with the military life. He requested that his funeral and burial should be a soldier’s funeral and burial; and that it should be from the G. A. R. hall that he loved so well. The blood of his Revolutionary ancestors was strong in his veins.

On June 2, 1868, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Shellhouse who preceded him to the Better Land 12 years ago, dying July 21, 1894. To this union were born seven children, two sons and five daughters. Two daughters preceded their parents at the ages of 4 years. The remaining children who survive are Mrs. Geo. Hardy, Emerson Liddil, Mrs. Sabert Taylor, Clifford Liddil and Mrs. James Doughman. The last named were small when their mother was taken from them and thus he was father and mother both to them. He also leaves six grandchildren and one sister.

He was a sufferer for 8 years.
