George Jackson (1838-1896) DEATH BY LIGHTNING Copy from the Obituary Collection at the Warren County Genealogical Society, 16 Jan 2014 Charlene Frey email: As a child, I remember my father and uncles talking about their great Uncle George Jackson being struck by lightning on a clear and cloudless day; and how the lightning struck the top of his head and went out through his feet blowing off one of his shoes. How odd! His chances of being stuck by lightning on a sunny day would be one in a million. That was the reason that my father's family believed that the time of a person's death was determined at birth. The obituary states that "a daughter of Mr. Jackson was here attending the Normal, and that morning a sister had come over to enjoy the reunion on Saturday night and remain over Sunday." The daughter could have been Caroline "Carrie" Jackson, who would have been 21 years in 1896. The "music" article mentioned that Caroline Jackson had studied under Prof. Benjamin Lewis at National Normal University, Lebanon, Ohio; so it probably could have been her. On the 1867 wall map, George Jackson's farm was aside of his father Jacob Jackson's farm. (Military Survey #1499.) George Jackson was born on Dec 27, 1838, and died on June 20, 1896, at 57 years, 5 months, and 23 days. He is buried in Blanchester Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) Cemetery, Clinton County, Ohio. (See Find A Grave Memorial# 104792988) |
