IN MEMORY OF OUR BROTHER CORNELIUS BUSH. Cornelius Bush was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, in February 22, 1832, departed this life November 23 at 4:30 a. m. aged 84 years and 9 months. Very little, if anything is known of his parentage. He united with the Shaker Society at Cleveland, Ohio, at about the age of 19. He occupied his time with the various industries that tended to the support of the colony. He witnessed the Society in its days of prosperity as well as its closing chapter in October 1889 and for a time before its extinction he was one of the trustees. He with some thirty members came some to Watervliet near Dayton, Ohio, and a few to Union Village. When the Watervliet Society was disbanded he came with the remaining members to Union Village in October 1900 where he has since resided. Borther [sic] Cornelius was a great lover of nature and some of his happiest
moments were spent in untiring efforts to fill our home with nature’s
choicest wild flowers. |
