Lewis Booker received Bounty Land Warrant #2331 for 4,000 acres in consideration of seven years of military service to the United States as a Captain in the Virginia Line on Continental establishment. For part of this warrant, he had a 275 acre parcel of land surveyed on 23 Oct 1798. The land was patented to him by President Thomas Jefferson as Survey #1013 situated "between the Little Miami and Sciota Rivers, north-west of the River Ohio" on 20 Feb 1802. Most of Survey #1013 is located in Wayne Twp, but a small portion on the north side extends into what is now Spring Valley Township, Greene County, Ohio.

Laura Dussault  provides this information regarding the early ownership of this land by the Compton family:
"After Samuel Compton dies, which is shortly after he arrives in Ohio, his children on 10 Jun 1805 give assurances and put up $500 in penal sum for their mother Elizabeth so that she can buy the land. On 12 Jun 1805 Elizabeth buys the land from Lewis Booker for $662. The acreage is 306 acres [not sure where the extra land came from]. On 5 Aug 1806 she sells for $250 the south end of the property, consisting of 159 acres to one of her younger sons Matthew Compton. Matthew Compton dies on 5 Aug 1815 and the south end of the original land is then divided among Matthew's heirs. Elizabeth Compton keeps the north end of the property, where the grave site is located, until 24 Mar 1818 when she sells the remaining 148 acres for $1 to her youngest son Joseph Compton. Joseph dies on 27 Jul 1824 and the north half of the property is then divided among Joseph Compton's heirs. It has been in the hands of a descendant since that time. The Jones's have had it since the late 1800s but at this time I do not know of their connection. The land where the cemetery is located has remained as farm land since Elizabeth owned it."

Laura Dussault  also shared this quotation:
"Samuel Compton did not long live to see the outcome of his settlement plan, for he died in the very spring in which his family became settled here [Greene Co., OH], in 1805. There was then no cemetery nearer than Waynesville and, besides, the river was so high at that time that there could be no thought of the funeral party getting across, so the body of Samuel Compton, the pioneer, was laid away in the orchard whose planting he had so short a time before superintended, and there that lonely grave is still cared for after a lapse of more than a hundred years. The Comptons were Quakers and became a substantial element in the population of the New Burlington neighborhood."
