About 1825, a lot about 1 1/4 acre in size that was purchased from David Fox for the erection of a church and the establishment of a cemetery. The church, built in 1826, was originally established as a non-denominational church owned by the Christian Church and is today used by The United Church of Christ. The cemetery reportedly had been used as a burial ground as early as 1799 and is the final resting place for at least one Revolutionary War Soldier, James Piper. The cemetery is now a 2.986 acres site plus another 2 acre parcel immediately west of the original cemetery, both owned by the Union Township Trustees. |
