Pioneer Cemetery, Lebanon, Ohio 2011 Memorial Day The north half was originally the Baptist Graveyard - The south half was originally the Methodist Graveyard |
Lebanon’s Pioneer Cemetery is the final resting place for 20 known veterans. Gravestones can be found for nearly all of them but only two had Memorial Markers to honor their service. Lebanon’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6069 donated plaques for the remaining graves. The plaques and flags were placed by the gravestones on May 4th, 2011 by Tom and Michele Ullum from the VFW and Arne Trelvik from the Warren County Genealogical Society. |
The list of veterans buried in the cemetery includes five who served during the Revolutionary War, nine who served during the War of 1812, two who served during the War with Mexico, and four who served during the Civil War. |
Three of the soldiers died while serving serving their country. John A. Koogle was mortally wounded at the Battle of Shiloh in 1862. John M. Corwin, died of disease at Knoxville on 8 Dec 1864. John Frazier died of disease on 13 Feb 1864 less than a month after enlisting in the 79th OVI |
Gravestones can no longer be found for two of the soldiers – War of 1812 veteran George Kesling and Civil War veteran, George W. Shellhouse. |
