According to Beers History of Warren County, a Bethany Church was located on this site as early as 1815. The first preacher, Richard Simonton was ordained on the 18th of October, 1821 and the church was formally organized as a Christian (or New Light) Church on Dec. 15, 1821. The church is now occupied by the Bethany United Church of Christ who continue to operate this active cemetery.

WPA Veteran Grave Registration Project, Page 40 Bethany Cemetery No. 8
The WPA listed 23 veterans on their plat map as shown in the table. We were not able to find information to confirm service of five of them. We do not know of a Joseph L. Hathaway buried here.
We have identified at least 57 other veterans buried at Bethany Cemetery including 3 from the War of 1812, 6 from the Civil War, 2 from the Spanish American War, 11 World War I vets, 32 World War II vets, 2 Korean War vets, 1 Vietnam War vet and 1 casualty from the Middle East Conflicts.
