In the earlier period, no political strife troubled the minds of the people. Every one attended to his own individual business and not to public affairs. Jackson's campaign was the sprout of partyism. The Democratic element was fostered early, which still survives and lives in the majority. At but very few of the times have they been placed in the minority. The vote of the township at different periods is given below. The names of Democrats are printed in Italics: 1856—Buchanan, 207; Fremont, 137; Fillmore, 36, for President. |
