HAWKINS, POWERS posted by Duane Powers on Friday, December 12, 1997

I am a resident now of California but my forebears came to Ohio from Vermont in the 1820s and 1830s. Thence to Iowa, Kansas and then west. I have been to Ohio a couple of times looking for information. It seems that something always arises that I should have investigated when I was there...Powers and Hawkins...to Ohio. John HAWKINS came to Portage in 1816. No problem with him. He stayed there until he died. Jimna HAWKINS, his brother, came in 1822 and died all most immediately...1823. I need to know if possible where he is buried and more critically his wife's name. My great-great grandfather Horace Hiram POWERS came to Portage in 1832, probably stayed with John HAWKINS, his Uncle. He bought a small piece of property in Wadsworth Township, Medina County. I believe this later became part of Norton Township when Summit County was formed. Did the town of Portage get swallowed up when Akron grew? In 1864, he moved to Iowa when his son John died in the war... Jimna had a daughter by the name of Rebecca HAWKINS ..married Simmons POWERS, father and mother of Horace...I have no record of what became of them...any help you can give will be greatly appreciated...

LIVINGSTON, RENZ posted by Norma Lenahan on Saturday, December 27, 1997

just recently received a note from a very kind genealogist who took his time to locate my uncle, Albert P. RENZ listed as age 24 in the 1920 Census. This showed his birth in PA and living in Akron, OH, Summit Co. ED195,Sheet 5, as well as his wife, Uree Renz, age 24 and a child, Delmar Renz 1 7/12 born OH. I have dates of all of their deaths: Albert d 3/1974, Uree d 10/1978 (both in Akron) & Delmar d 9/81 in Cuyahoga Falls. I know of a sister, Blanche LIVINGSTON, and two other brothers, Carl and Walter also in the OH area. I have no idea where they may be buried in Akron or I would send for copies as I am trying to locate my ggrandfather, John Renz who migrated to OH from PA. Any suggestions in what direct I can search for these missing links??
