Please Remember:

These facilities have current business they must attend to. They will try to help you but they do not have the time, or staff, to do extensive searches. The following tips will help you. When writing to any facility for information keep requests limited to 1 or 2 items, and provide exact dates. Keep request specific and to the point. Lengthy letters on your family history will be overlooked or discarded. Due to the rising cost of postage many facilities require a long, self-addressed stamped envelope (S.A.S.E.) for a reply. Once again, it is best to write first to inquire about current copy fees.

PLEASE LET EACH FACILITY KNOW YOU HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED SUMMIT COUNTY CHAPTER, OGS - This will prevent them from forwarding your letter back to OGS.

This facility is for public research only!
Hours are Monday - Friday 8am. to 5pm.
Archives for materials - many in their original form for Ashland, Coshocton, Holmes, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas, and Wayne Counties. These records are far too numerous to mention here. (They suggest calling first to insure that the records you want will be on hand when you arrive.) Copy machines are available, cost of copies was not given.

  • Contains a family history room with computer databases.

  • Library containing extensive genealogy collection.

  • All U.S. Census Indexes from the first one in 1790 to 1930.

  • The Library Research Service (LRS) is offered by the Library of the Western Reserve Historical Society principally to assist those outside the Greater Cleveland area who cannot visit the Library to conduct their own research. This service is on a fee basis of $40.00 per hour with a one-half hour minimum. This includes up to ten photocopies.

  • The general public can do research for the price of admission to the museum. Photocopying charges also may apply.
