Seneca County Gallery

This page is for the photographs of our Seneca County ancestors. If you'd like to submit a photograph, please write to me at [email protected] for "how-to's." The only criteria I have is that you are able to identify them, and that they must have lived in Seneca Co. at some point in their lives, even if the photograph was taken at a different time.

Please note, if you are unable to identify the persons in your photo, we do have an "unidentified" photo page as well. You can see that at https://sites.rootsweb.com/~ohseneca/scoufp.htm

Submitted by Lisa Perry . The following names are listed on the back
of the photo: Vivian Byers, Alice Peacemaker, Helen Spitler,
Hazel Spitler (sisters) & Ruth Baker. Lisa's aunt is Vivian Byers, and
is the first girl. Her aunt was born in 1902, and Lisa believes she was
about 15 years old at this time.

Amalie Walter Monument

Amalie Walter monument at SE corner of Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Jackson Twp - not included on Cemetery Website.

Amalie was first wife of my ggrandfather, John Walter, who remarried and moved to LaGrange County IN in 1870. He served in the Civil War 1864-65- presumeably that is reason for the VFW flag by the monument as they did not know he moved and is buried at South Milford IN Cemetery.
John Walter emigrated from Germany late 1850's, following a few years after his sister and brother-in-law George Nusser (also buried at Zion Lutheran). He and Amalie had no children to my knowledge, and Amalie's maiden name is unknown, although it may have been Kassing or Brum as she was sponsor for Baptism of Wm. Kassing and Elizabeth (Brum)'s dau, Auguste Amalie, in 1864.
