Hi,
New to the list. I am researching Adam and Elizabeth BATES. I believe them to be the parents of my gggrandfather Samuel Bates. He was born in Ohio in 1851. His death certificate lists Adam Bates and Elizabeth SHAMBLIN as his parents. Both born in PA. I found them listed in the 1860 census of Sandusky Co. Unfortunately, Samuel is not named but a Charles is instead. I am trying to discover if Charles is Samuel's middle name. Anyone heard of this family? Thank you for any information or suggestions anyone might be able to offer me. Thank you, Aldean [email protected]

I am currently researching my great-grandfather, Peter William MESS, who was a citizen of Fremont, Sandusky County, Ohio around 1916 or 1917. This information was in the book 'History of Northwest Ohio' by Nevin O. Winter. Prior to that time he lived in Kansas and Oregon. At the time he lived in Fremont he was with his wife, Eva Reischmann MESS, and his children: Nicholas Norbert MESS, Mary Leonora MESS, Margaret Cyrilla MESS, Michael Joseph MESS, Peter W. MESS Jr., Teiresia Rosalie MESS, and Benedict Rupert MESS. Theiresia may have died in Ohio in 1915, that is one fact I have not been able to discern. I have been trying to find a death certificate on an ancestor who may have died in Fremont, Sandusky County, Ohio in 1915. Her name was Theresia Rosalie MESS. Some spellings of her first name have it without the 'i' , but her father wrote it as above in his Bible. I have the date of her death as August 18, 1915. Her date of birth was October 10, 1896. thank you for anything you can do. Her parents were Peter William MESS, and Eva Reischmann MESS. They lived in various parts of Ohio over time, including New Bavaria, Henry County and Putnam and Seneca Counties. They were with a group that came from Luxembourg in 1847 and went through Sandusky, Ohio before settling in New Bavaria. Thanks again.

Edmund CLAPP and Charlotte FOOTE were married in Green Creek Twp 7 Apr 1851. Edmund died unexpectedly in 1854 leaving widow and two children, Clara Ann and Robert Edmund, who went to Lenawee Co, MI, to live with relatives for a few years. They later returned to Clyde, where Charlotte died in 1885 and Clara in 1924, all buried in McPherson Cemetery. Son Robert Clapp went to Australia.

Charlotte's mother was Phebe Young, first married to Calvin Foote (my 3d great grandparents), later to Lenander Barrett. In her later years she lived in Fairfield, Lenawee Co, MI, but I've never found a record of her death. Our family history says that she died in Clyde, but years ago I checked the McPherson listings and didn't find her.

Now I'm wondering whether I checked both possible names, Phebe (Phoebe) Barrett and Foote. She went by both surnames. There is a fairly new McPherson Cemetery book and would someone please check for Phebe for me?
