ROBERT VALENTINE
Services for Robert Edward Valentine, Jr., 6, of 125 West Fourth Street, was conducted at the Fawcett funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Melvin Woodard officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Music was provided by members of the choir of the First Baptist church, with Mrs. Ethel Cousins as organist. Pallbearers were Gary Jenkins, James Giles, Pete Lewis, and Johnnie Lynch.

EDNA VANMETER
Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Pennisten Chapel on Route 124 for Mrs. Edna M. VanMeter, 72, of Idaho, Pike County. The Rev. Lewis VanMeter will officiate, and burial will be at the Arkoe Cemetery by Botkin Funeral Home. Mrs. VanMeter died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday in the residence of her son, Doug, on Piketon, Route 2, after a long illness. She was born March 13, 1890, in Pike County, the daughter of William and Lillian Henry Morehead. On Aug. 10, 1911, she married Sanford VanMeter, who survives. Also surviving are five sons, Dallas, Chillicothe, Donald, Idaho, Stanley, SpringField, Kenneth, New Burlington, and Robert (Doug). Three brothers also survive. They are Ivan Morehead, Bainbridge, Route 2, Frank, Washington C.H., and Harley, Greenfield. Two daughters, a son and a sister predeceased her. Friends may call at the furneral home.

SANFORD VANMETER
Sanford S. VanMeter, 75-year-old farmer of Idaho neighborhood, was fatally stricken about 10 A.M. Tuesday, Sept. 13 while talking to some young hunters on his farm. The youthful hunters said that they had obtained permission earlier from Mr. VanMeter on his farm and he came to see how they were doing and at the time of his death had been on the ground resting while talking. Pike County Coroner, Dr. Paul Jones was summoned and gave a verdict of death due to heart attack. Born on Jan. 23, 1887 at Morgantown, near his present home, he was thw son of John I. and Emma (Parker) VanMeter. On Aug. 10, 1911 he married Edna M. Morehead who died Apr. 10, 1962. The couple had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Surviving are five sons, Kenneth M. of New Burlington, O., Stanley N. of Springfield, Dallas N. of Chillicothe, Rt. 4, Donald L. of Idaho and Robert D. of Piketon, Rt. 2 and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters, a son and two brothers. Furneral services were held at 2 P.M. Friday at Pennisten Chapel Church with Rev. Lewis VanMeter officiating. Burial followed in Arkoe Cemetery under direction of Botkin Funeral Home of Waverly.

WILLIAM VANVELZOR
William L. VanVelzor, age 88, died on Thursday, October 16, 2003, at his home. He was a long time resident of Kingston. William was the founder and owner of the VanVelzor Metal Stamping Co., a member of the Packard Club, for 20 years, owner, builder and sponsor of the VanVelzor Auto Racing Team, and an avid Ohio State fan. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Marshall VanVelzor; son by a previous marriage, Bruce VanVelzor; and sister, Lela Price; stepchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2003, at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio (614) 861-6268, where friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial in Harrison Township Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute to the Mt. Carmel Hospice, in Bill's memory.

Margaret Louise Vincent, 81, of Huntington WV, widow of C.J. "Tom" Vincent, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, 28 Mar 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at Union Missionary Baptist Church, Chesapeake OH, with Pastor Bob Barbour and Reverend Roger Adams officiating. Burial will follow at 3 PM at Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe. She was born 26 Nov 1919 in Frankfort KY, a daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Antoinette Johnson Rainey. She was a retired LPN at Saint Mary's Hospital. She was a faithful member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by five daughters, Diane Medert, Ft. Wayne IN, Sandra White, Huntington WV, Kathy Fuller, Columbia SC, Lisa Jo Stiles, Houston TX, and Bronwyn VanDerwerker, Greensboro NC; two sons, G. Jeffrey Vincent and Edwin Carey Vincent, both of Huntington WV; fifteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a sister, Anne Novario, Richmond Heights OH; and a brother, Thomas Rainey, Ridgecrest CA. PHILIP WAGNER
Funeral services for the late Philip Wagner were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.V. Kemp, 604 Allen Avenue with Rev. Keaton officiating. Burial was made in Greenlawn cemetery with C.J. Ware in charge. The pallbearers were Alfred Gartner, Russel Simms, Harry DeGarmo, Donald Warne, Emile Kemp, and Everett Gire.

Wendell Eugene Wagner
Wendell Eugene Wagner, of Chillicothe, lost his courageous battle with Cancer, July 18, 2003, at his home with his wife and son by his side.
He was born January 9, 1951 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Charles Wendell and Ida Elizabeth Radcliffe Wagner. On August 17, 1974 he marries the former Joyce Osbourne, who survives.
Also surviving are son Christopher Wagner, at home; sister, Mary (Alan)Krankel-Wagner, of San Antonio, TX; mother-in-law Loretta Osbourne, of Lucasville; sisters-in-law Leona (Ralph) Silcott, of Troy; Gloria (Richard) Norman, of Lucasville; Brenda (Bill) Brooks, of Las Vegas, NV; and Patty (Fred) Kiedel, of Hillsboro; brither-in-law John Osbourne, of Lucasville and several nieces and nephews.
Wendell was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and Ohio University. He worked for the Mead Corporation for 29 years in the field services and was a history teacher for Chillicothe City Schools. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and was a member of the Mead Rifle and Pistol Club and Peoples Rights Organization.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday July 21 2003, in the Ware Funeral Home with Rev. Higginbotham officiatinf. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware’s from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
He will be sadly missed by many friends and co-workers and his dog, Gizmo.

JAMES WALDON
James Edwin Waldon was born in Sexitan, Ohio, January 11,1903, the son of Stanley and Anna Waldon and on March 17, 1923, was united in marriage to Miss Pauline Farabee. He is survived by his wife and one little daughter, Marjory Anne, his parents Mr.and Mrs. Stanley Waldon of the Roberts Apartments, and a sister, Mrs. Harvey Welch of Cincinnati. Rev. L.O. Weber will officiate at the funeral services which will be held at the residence Wednesday morning at 10:30 and the body will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery. [NB: James Edwin Waldon was a Chillicothe motorcycle policeman who was killed by a drunken driver while on duty looking for the scene of an earlier accident. The incident of his death is posted in the Articles section.]

JOHN WALKER
Funeral services for John Walker, 71, a former resident of Portsmouth who died Saturday in Chillicothe, were to be held today at 2 p.m. at Siloam with burial there. Mr. Walker lived in Portsmouth until about 15 years ago when he moved to Chillicothe. He is survived by two brothers, Richard Walker of Franklin Furnace and Joseph Walker of Hinton, W. VA., and two sisters, Mrs. John Clausing of Lucasville Rt. 2 and Mrs. Margaret Seymore of Chillicothe. Four daughters and one son also survive him.

Bainbridge - Mrs. Ida Walls, 83, wife of Alonzo Walls and mother of James Hixon, Greenfield, died in her home in Spargursville, Sunday at 4:30 p.m. following a week's illness. She was born in Twin township Nov. 27, 1870, a daughter of James and Elizabeth Wilson Means. Following the death of her first husband, James Hixon, she married Mr. Walls. She leaves another son and five daughters, Orville Hixon, Opal, Wyo.; Mrs. Addie Myers and Mrs. Retta Wipert, Bainbridge Rt. 1; Miss Olive Hixon, Los Angeles; Mrs. Ruth Smith and Mrs. Mary Frazee, Springfield.
Services will be held in Christian Union church at Storms, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be made at Bourneville by Smith funeral home. Friends may call at the Jesse Wipert residence, Bainbridge Rt. 1, after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Ida Walls, 80, died at her home at Spargursville at 4:30 p.m. Sunday after a week's illness.
Born Nov. 27, 1870, in Twin township, she was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Means. Surviving are the husband Alonzo Walls, and seven children by a former marriage, James H. Hixon of Greenfield, Orville Hixon of Opal, Wyoming, Mrs. Addie Myers and Mrs. Retta Wipert of Bainbridge, Route 1, Mrs. Ruth Smith and Mrs. Mary Frazee of Springfield, and Mrs. Inez Bowser of Piqua, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Carpentar, Long Beach, Cal., 22 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Christian Union church at Storms where service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, The Rev. Glen Mill swill officiate and burial under direction of H.D. Smith township cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Jesse Wipert residence, Bainbridge, Route 1.

Burial was under supervision of H.D. Smith in Twin township cemetery. Pallbearers were: Lester and Melvin Wipert, James Hixon, Jr., Clyde and Paul Myers and Emmitt Gant.

Piketon area former resident dead at 102 -- Leonidas Oscar "Ott" Warne, 102, Route 5, Portsmouth, died at 9:30 am Saturday at Mercy Hospital, Portsmouth, following a brief illness. He was a former Route 2, Piketon, resident and a retired farmer. Mr. Warne's funeral was to be held at 1:30 pm today at the Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly, with the Rev. Richard Ward officiating. Burial was to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A native of Pike County, he was born Dec. 25, 1874, to James and Mary Ann Roe Warne. On July 25, 1901, he was married to Myrtle M. Holobaugh, who died Sept. 9, 1954. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ronia Stahler, Scottsboro, Ala.; a son, Forrest, of Dayton; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, a daughter, four sisters and a brother. Mr. Warne was a member of the Bethel Church of Christ in Christian Union.

SIMEON WARNER
Simeon Warner died May 2, 1940 at the home of Delbert Garrison at Dry Run. Born in Union Twp., Ross co., October 19, 1856, s/o Abner and Elinore Anderson Warner. On December 8, 1888, he married Emma Schneider who preceded him in death. Surviving is a son, Elsas Warner of Chillicothe; and 2 daughters: Mrs. Lloyd Pabst of Chillicothe and Mrs. Delbert Garrison. Burial at Brown's Chapel.

ALBERT WATSON
A several months illness with complications of diseases resulted in the death of Albert E. Watson, 84, Friday at 10:45 am at his home at 151 Race Street. He was born March 20, 1852, in Columbus, the son of George and Alice Watson. He was married to Carrie Schoeffel on Oct 31, 1875. Mr. and Mrs. Watson celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary last Sunday. Besides his wife he leaves four daughters, Mrs. Charles McFerrin, Mrs. Morris McKinney and Mrs. Howard Barrows of Chillicothe; and Mrs. Wesley Recob of Akron; 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 pm from Lowery's with interment in Greenlawn. Friends may call at the residence until 9 am Sunday.

Edward M. Watters, 96, of 312 Moler Ave, Columbus died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in Columbus. He had been in failing health for several years. Mr. Watters was a retired farmer and mail carrier, and formerly resided on Rt. 3 Waverly. A native of Ross County, he was born on May 23, 1878, a son of John and Charlotte (Colburn) Watters. On Dec 25, 1897 he married the former Martha Neal, who died March 3, 1967. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by one daughter, three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are two sons Ernest Watters of Rt. 5 Chillicothe and Douglas (Bud) Watters of 503 E. Fifth St. Waverly. Three daughters, Mrs. Ura Lee of Rt. 3 Waverly, Mrs. Lexie Brown of Rt 4, Waverly, and Mrs. Beryl Henkel of Columbus; 22 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, and 28 great, great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lillian Brown of Adams Ave., of Chillicothe, and Mrs. Lennie Hill, of Chillicothe. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, with Rev. Theodore Mendenhall officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery here. MERL WEAGLY
Merl E. Weagly, 56, of 163 Vine street, died at 8:45 a.m. Monday at Chillicothe hospital, following a week's illness due to a heart ailment. A native of Cincinnati, he was born April 12, 1893, the son of Guy L. and Nettie Weagly. He was first married to Esther Baum, who died in Nov 1925. He was again married on Feb 22, 1928 to Georgia E. Ervin, who survives. He is also survived by son Robert G. Weagly of this city. He was a steamfitter at the B. & O. shops for 15 years prior to 13 years of service as an electrician with the Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Co. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church and the Loyal Order of Moose. Service will be conducted at St. Paul's church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Leonard P. Hagger officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort, under the direction of the Ware funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

BETTY WEAVER
Betty A. Weaver, 67, of 5215 25th Ave., N. St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Chillicothe, went to be with her Lord on March 29, 1997, after an extended illness. She was born in Chillicothe on July 15, 1929. Surviving are her mother, Dorothy Drummond; daughter, Linda Weaver, both of St. Petersburg, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Dwight Bowen, Waverly; half-sisters, Cathy and Terri McKelvey, Mt. Vernon, Ohio; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two aunts, Midge Neighborgal and Mary Blake; and several cousins and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Wilbur McKelvey, and sister, Judy Huston. She was employed by the Mead Paper Corp. from 1959 to 1985, when she retired and moved to Florida. The funeral was conducted by the Anderson-McQueen funeral Homes, Ninth St. Chapel, St. Petersburg, with Rev. Branson Rogers, First Baptist Church of Pinellas Park officiating. Final resting place is at Sunnyside Cemetery, St. Petersburg, Florida. Memorial contributions can be made to Woodside House Hospice, 6770 102nd Ave, N. Emmitt H. Webb Jr., 52, of Chillicothe, died Saturday [05 Feb 1972] at 6 p.m. in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Dayton. Born Nov. 3, 1919 in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of Emmitt and Charlotte Storts Webb. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving is a brother, Albert J. Webb, of Chillicothe. A sister preceded him in death. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Murray Funeral Home with burial following in South Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at Murray's after 2 p.m., Tuesday.

Marguerite A. Webb, 64, Chillicothe, formerly of Leesburg, died 8:05 p.m. Saturday in Ross Medical Center. Born June 23, 1913, in Zanesville, she was the daughter of Noah and Rhea O'Lowery Davis. A retired registered nurse, she received her bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1934 from Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in Zanesville. She had been employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Chillicothe. Surviving are her step-mother, Mrs. Martha Davis, Zanesville; two sons, Michael L. Webb, Houston, Texas, and Albert J. Webb, Chillicothe; a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Anne) Rinehart, Chillicothe; five grandchildren; a brother, Edwin Davis, Tucson, Ariz., and a half-brother, Harry O. Davis, LaVale, Md. A sister preceded her in death. Graveside service was held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville, with Rev. Clair Emerick officiating.

Mary C. Weinrich, 68, of Hopeton Village, died 3 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2003, in the Chillicothe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a short illness. She was born July 18, 1935, in Chillicothe, to the late Garrett and Dorothy Shay Schrader. On March 11, 1955, she married Curtis Gerald Weinrich, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Curtis (Karen) Weinrich, of Worthington, OH, Fred William Weinrich, of Westerville, OH, and Ron (Dawn) Weinrich, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Derek, Zachary, Kathryn, Kelsey and Tyler; a sister, Joyce (Richard) Buchanan, of Chillicothe; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn "Cookie" Hammond. Mary was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church and its Missionary Group. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2003, in the Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery. Clara, wife of Harry Wellington, of Ashville, died at St. Francis hospital, Columbus, Wednesday morning March 8 [1922], at 10:30 a.m. Her health was due to septicemia. The deceased was born in Ross County, near Chillicothe, in 1897. She was the daughter of William and Margaret Hartley Edgington. She is survived by her husband and six children, three boys and three girls. Of her immediate family, four brothers and two sisters survived. They are J. Stanley Edgington, James Edgington, of this city; Jesse Edgington of St. Louis, Missouri; Gilbert Edgington of Toledo; Mrs. Rhoda Moyer of Lima, and Mrs. J. Lewis Carter, of this city [Circleville].

Dorothy J. Weter, 78, of Hopeton Village, died 7:35 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2004, in Heartland of Chillicothe, following an extended illness. She was born August 13, 1925, in Pike County, to the late Oland and Mae Wishon Willis. Surviving are children, Linda (Rusty Hahn) Earnest, of Port Lavaca, TX, and Roger Weter, of Richmond Dale; a grandson, Ron (Janelle) Ackley, of Virginia Beach, VA; a great-granddaughter, Raven Lynn Ackley; a brother, Rev. Delbert (Ellen) Willis, of Sunbury, OH; sisters, Theodorus Hardin and Kay (Everett) Turner, both of Chillicothe; Garnet (Robert) Scaggs and Margaret Wittkugle, both of Waverly, and Majel Gary, of Atlanta, GA; a sister-in-law, Eileen Willis, of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, George Willis, and sisters Theda Price and Blanche Grow. Dorothy was an employee of the U.S. Shoe Corporation for over 20 years. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2004, in Little Mound Cemetery, with Rev. Delbert Willis officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Ware Funeral Home.

SCOTT WHEELER
Scott Wheeler, son of William H. and Jennie Retherford Wheeler, was born April 28, 1899, in Liberty Township, Ross County, Ohio. Departed this life at his home near Washington C.H., O., Feb. 4, 1929, He spent the most of his boyhood in Ross County, moving from there with his parents to Highland County. They lived there but a year, then moved to Clinton County where he saw the last seven years of his life. Scott never united with any church, but he was honest, upright, and temperate in his habits and had repeatedly expressed his assurance in Christ. He was remarkable kind and his cheerful disposition, loyalty to friends, and generous devotion to those near and dear to him merited the large measure of love and esteem accorded him by those who knew him best. For the past year he had been in failing health but through all of his sickness he never complained, always bearing his suffering patiently, hoping that God would spare him to raise his little children. He was united in marriage to Catherine Dolph of Martinsville, O, June 18, 1924. To this union there born two daughters, Reba Jeane, age 3 years, and Virginia Eileen, age 20 months. Those who survive him are his wife, two children, father, mother, two brothers, Lloyd and Hasen, both of Martinsville, O., and one sister, Mrs. William Lee, at home; and a brother, Clifford, who preceded him in death; besides a host of relatives and friends by whom he will be sadly missed.

Edna M. White died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Fletcher Maddux, at 505 North Hight Street, Sunday evening, after an illness of two months. Death was due to tuberculosis. The deceased was 22 years of age and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac White. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Maddux of this city, and Mrs. Alice Scott of Protsmouth, and one brother, Harold White of Columbus. The funeral services will be held at the Maddux home at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening, and the remains will be taken to Williamsport Wednesday morning, where interment will be made.

John Whiting, 26, of Route #8, Chillicothe, Ohio, was born on June 29, 1923 at Coalton, son of Charles and Rosie (Hannon) Whiting of Goldsboro. Surviving are the wife, the former Mary Cardwell, two daughters, Janet Louise and Barbara Sue, and one son John, Jr. One son, Donald Eugene, deceased two years ago. Also surviving are five brothers: Charles, Carl, and James of Route #8 Chillicothe: William of Wellston and George of Bourneville, Ohio. Five sisters: Mrs. Ruth Ray of Route #8 Chillicothe, Mrs. Nellie Doles of Ray,Ohio, Mrs. Marcella Mahley of Antrim, Ohio, and Mary Rawlings and Mrs. Hazel Eby, both of Wellston, Route #2, and both parents, Charles and Rosie Whiting. A sister, Marjorie, and a brother, Donivan, deceased. John will be missed greatly by his family and friends, his winning smile and sunny disposition.

Funeral service for George Whitley, 35, Route 1, Peebles, was to be help at 2 pm Monday at Pine Top Church under direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Bainbridge. The Rev. Howard Fannon was to officiate and burial was to follow in Cynthiana Cemetery. Pallbears were James Vandemark, Tom Johnson, Elijah Scaff, Gary Whitley, Donnie Cross, and Rick Perkins. Mr. Whitley, a member of the Pine Top Church, died unexpectedly Friday evening at his home. A native Pike Countian, he was born Feb. 13, 1941, to Raymond and Anna Blanch Dalton Whitley. On March 19, 1960, he was married to the former Rose Riddle, who survives. Also surviving are his father, Route 2, Bainbridge; a son, George Michael; and a daughter, Sandra Lynn, at home; six sisters, Mrs. Nellie Seely, Toledo; Mrs Thelma May, West Union; Mrs. Beulah Keaton, Xenia; Mrs. Mary Barber, Lyndon; and Mrs. Beatrice Keaton and Mrs. Ruth Cross, both of Bainbridge; and two brothers, Raymond Jr and John Willie, Bainbridge. He was preceeded in death by his mother, Anna, and a brother, Edward.

Mrs. Hazel Wick, 82, Columbus, a former Omega resident, died at 12:05 p.m. Sunday [June 4 1978] in the Marietta Place Nursing Home. She had been in failing health several months. Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly. The Rev. Irvin Lane will officiate and burial will follow in Omega Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 4-8 p.m. Tuesday. Born Sept. 25, l895, in Pike County, she was the daughter of William H. and Cora Bell Mickle Maloy. On April 10, 1941, she was married to Philip S. Wick, who died March 31, 1961. Surviving is a sister, Miss Goldie Maloy, 20 S. Sugar St. Mrs. Wick attended the Omega Methodist Church.

Ottis H. Wickline, 74, of Marietta Rd., died at 1:20 a.m. July 11, 1982, at his residence after a sudden illness. ʈe was born March 1, 1908, in Pike County, Ohio to James and Emma McLaughlin Wickline. On April 26, 1938 he married the former Irene Roberts, who survives. Other survivors include a son, James William Wickline of Kingston, a half brother, Damon Kight of Springfield, two grandchildren, Bryan William Wickline and Kevin Scott Wickline. ʈe was predeceased by a son, Roger Lee Wickline. Mr. Wickline was a retired laborer, He was a member of the American Legion Post 291, Kingston and an Army veteran of WWII. Mrs. Wilbur died Monday morning at her residence [14 May 1962]. She was born July 8, 1888 in Ross County, the daughter of John and Charlotte Colburn Watters. On July 27, 1916, she married Clarence L. Wilbur, who died in 1952. Mrs. Helen Marie Wilder, 68, of 1103 Selma Rd, died at 5:50 pm Tuesday in the Ridgewood Nursing Home. She was born Jan 25, 1910, in Ross County, a daughter of William and Minnie Peck Roseboom. She was a member of the Fidelia Rebekah Lodge No. 12, the Daughter of American, LEA, and Women of the Moose. Survivors include her husband, J. B.; three sons, Bent and Dennis at home and Gary Lee of Florida; a daughter, Vicki Holland of Springfield, a sister, Mrs. Albert Mader, Chillicothe; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Mae Wilhelm, 71, died at her home on Route 4 at 1:45 p.m. Friday, after an illness of several months.
A life-long resident of Green Township, Ross County, she was born Aug. 23, 1882, the daughter of Lewis C. and Rebecca Creachbaum Hyne. On Dec.24, 1902 she married Michael O. Wilhelm. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1952.
Mrs. Wilhelm was a member of Salem E. & R. Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Earl Wilhelm, at home.
Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Fawcett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter Ott officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Mother of Grover Wilkins, aged 72, wife of Andrew Wilkins, died at the home of her son, Grover, Fairview Avenue of heart trouble, Tuesday at 6 p.m. Death was sudden. Mrs. Wilkins was a native of Ross Co, being born Aug 16, 1858, the daughter of Michael and Mary Cherry Hittinger. She is survived by her husband, her son, at whose home she died; three brothers, William, Lewis, and Nelson Hittinger, all of Adelphi; four sisters, Mrs. Susan Gilpin, this city; Mrs. Vistie Francis and Mrs. Mervie Bennette of Adelphi, and Miss Clara Hittinger, of Hallsville. Miss Ruth Williams, the thirteen year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Williams of North High street, died last night at midnight of diphtheria. This is the second death in the family in two days as the result of the dread malady and another child is seriously ill. The family has the sympathy of the community in its double bereavement. Verlia M. Williams, 85, of Greenfield, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Edgewood Manor. She was born on Jan. 11, 1916, in Clarksburg, to John and Margaret (Stevenson) Roberts. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Washington Avenue House of Prayer. Herschel G. Wills, Sr., 65, of Chillicothe, died unexpectedly at 11:42 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born Aug. 18, 1937 in Jackson County to the late Lora and Artie Ray Wills. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired automobile mechanic. He is survived by sons, Herschel Jr., (Tammy) Wills and Joseph (Lena) Wills, all of Chillicothe, and Steven (Cathy) Wills of Clyde, Ohio; daughters, Valerie (Rick) Bevins of Beaver, Vicki (Fred) Bruce and Lorrie Lou (Charles) Blevins, all of Chillicothe, and Kim McManis of McArthur; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Elvarie (Willard) Castle; brother, Donald (Zelma) Wills, all of Ray, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jeanette McGuire; and infant son, Larry; brothers, Harley and Russell Wills; and sister, Margie Parks. Marjorie E. Wills, 69, of Chillicothe, passed from this life early Monday morning, October 6, 2003, at her residence, following a brief illness. She was born April 14, 1934, in Chillicothe, the daughter of Clyde James and Lovina Sampson Burns. On June 4, 1978, she married Ronald L. Wills, who survives. Also surviving are her mother, Ruth Lovina Burns, Chillicothe; step-daughters Rhonda and husband, Nicholas Schneider, Casselberry, FL, and Kathleen and husband, Steve Alderman, Chillicothe; step-sons, Blaine Wills, Chillicothe, and James and wife, Nicole Wills, Londonderry; step-grandchildren, Kevin Schneider and Kristen Shaw; and six step-great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Conley, Jeanette Oates, Bonnie Montgomery and Denise and husband, Harold Ramsey, all of Chillicothe; and brothers, Robert W. and wife, Thelma Burns, Jack and wife, Linda Burns and William Burns, all of Chillicothe, and a host of nieces and nephews. Her father preceded her in death. Mrs. Wills was an operator supervisor with the Chillicothe Telephone Company with 36 years of service, retiring in 1989. Born in Ross County, Sept. 18, 1907, to Isaac and Alice Hester Wilson, he married the former Mary Louise Mercer, who survives, on March 4, 1946. Walter A. Wilson, 85, of 1105 Washington av, Washington C.H., died 1:28 a.m. Sunday in Browns Hospital at the Dayton V.A. Center, where he had been a patient 10 days. He had been in failing health for several years. Born in Ross County Nov. 25, 1895, he was the son of James and Addie Hester Wilson. Mr. Wilson lived most of his life in Washington C.H., where he was a retired shoe repairman. He was a member of the Sugar Grove U. Methodist Church and a charter and life member of VFW Post 4964 in Washington C.H. A World War I Army veteran, Mr. Wilson was a member of the 42nd Rainbow Division and was the recipient of a purple heart. He is survived by his wife, Mary Busic Wilson; one son, William Wilson of Washington C.H.; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Garringer of Bowersville and Mrs. Anna Lee Bolton of Kissimmee, Fla; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Hester of Washington C.H. Service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, Washington C.H., with Rev. Rodney Burk officiating and burial in Washington Cemetery. Calvin E. Winks, of Chillicothe, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2006. He was born July 17, 1924, in Chillicothe to Hugh and Amy Shasteen Winks. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Juanita (Murray) Winks.
He is survived by his son Randy Winks and daughter-in-law Veronica, of Chillicothe; granddaughters Valerie (Jesse) Warnock of Columbus, and Tiffany Winks of Myrtle Beach, SC. Also surviving are sisters, Mrs. Jack (Leona) Flack and Mrs. Russell (Emma) Suttles, and brother-in-law Gerald (Darlene) Murray, sister-in-laws Mrs. Ralph (Genevieve) Clark and Mrs. Russell (Norma) Winks; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; many friends and “Yukon”.
He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Helen Frey, and brothers, Walter, William, and Russell Winks, and sister-in-laws Elwanda Doyle, Margie Kinney, and Pauline Winks and brother-in-laws, Michael Frey, Jack Flack, and Russell Suttles.
Mr. Winks retired from Wear-Ever in 2982, after 34 years of service. He was a WWII Army veteran, owner and operator of Valley House Restaurant from 1978 to 1987, and held an Ohio Auctioneers License for over 40 years.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday September 12, 2006 in the Haller Funeral Home, Rev. Jack Norman and Pastor Mel Smith officiating. Graveside services will follow in Londonderry Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Haller Funeral Home.

FRANK WINN
The remains of Frank Thomas Winn were interned at Grandview cemetery Tuesday afternoon, Rev. M. A. Heintz of St. Peter's church officiating at the committment service. The deceased was a former Chillicothean and for many years had been telegraph manager of the St. Louis Times, but more recently was connected with the Western Union in that city. His death wad due to myocasditis super-induced by post-operative pneumonia. He was aged 50 years and had been following his avocation away from Chillicothe for more than 30 yers. He is survived by three sisters, Misses Ella and Theresse Winn, Dallas, Texas, and Miss Jane F. Winn of St. Louis. The latter accompanied the remains here, Miss Therese Winn being very ill and unable to be left alone at her Dallas home.

E. L. Wisecup, 78, Morton Rd, Lyndon Rt. 1, was dead on arrival at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at Greenfield Municipal Hospital. Mr. Wisecup was former postmaster of Lyndon, a retired Buckskin Township trustee after 16 years of service, a former member of the Buckskin Board of Education and a farmer. Born August 20, 1900, in Ross County, he was the son of Joseph and Ruth Alice Herdman Wisecup. He was married January 29, 1924, to the former Gladys Beechler, who survives. In addition to Mrs. Wisecup, surviving are five sons, Claude E., Chillicothe; Clifford E., South Salem; Wayne C., Frankfort, and Donald A. and Carl W., both of Greenfield; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Ruth Ann) Trego, Greenfield Rt. 1; 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Wisecup, Washington C.H. Two sons, Edward J. and Kenneth L. Wisecup, and two sisters and five brothers preceded him in death. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Murray's Funeral Home, Greenfield, with Rev. WILLIAM WISECUP
William Bryan Wisecup, 78, Lyndon Rt. 1, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greenfield Municipal Hospital following a lingering illness. Born in Paulding County, Nov. 22, 1897, he was the son of Joseph Wisecup and Ruth Herdman Wisecup. He was a member of the Greenfield Eagles Lodge. On April 24, 1920, he married the former Ollie Smith, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Robert E.Wisecup, Livonia, Mich.; Frank H. Wisecup, South Salem; William B. Wisecup, Greenfield and Charles L. Wisecup, Washington C.H.; six daughters, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Scheeler and Mrs. James (Margaret) Haines, both of Greenfield; Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Riehle, Lyndon Rt. 1; Mrs. Richard (Mary) Barney, Columbus; Mrs. Eugene (Virginia) Cockerill, Frankfort Rt. 2, and Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Miller, Xenia; three brothers, Edward Wisecup, Lyndon Rt. 1; James Wisecup, Greenfield, and Raymond Wisecup, Washington C.H.; one sister, Mrs. Annabelle Howard, Greenfield; 28 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers, one sister and one grandson. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Murray Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Ken Marckel. Burial will follow in South Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday. Eagles service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday.

AR WOLFE
PROMINENT CHILLICOTHE CITIZEN DIED TUESDAY; BURIAL FRIDAY AFTERNOON - A.R. Wolfe, a prominent Chillicothe citizen, died at his home on East Seventh street in that city Tuesday afternoon, April 17, aged 53 years. The deceased for a number of years was a reporter on the News Advistiser and later became city editor. In addition to his newspaper work he became lessee and manager of the Masonic opera house, now known as the Majestic. He was appointed postmaster by President Wilson in November 1913, and served two terms and made a most excellent postmaster. Mr. Wolfe was the first president of the Rotary Club and served two terms. Socially he was a member of the Masons and its different bodies, the Shrine, Knight-Templar and Scottish Rite. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Alice Thomas, a sister of the late Judge J. M. Thomas. A few years after her death he married Miss Anna B. Coppel, daughter of Charles F. Coppel, who survives. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at St Paul's Episcopal church and his remains was placed in Grandview mausoleum. A number of poeple from this city friends of the deceased attended the funeral. Mr. Wolfe was scheduled to address the Circleville Rotary club at its luncheon last Thursday at The Boggs.

MERLE WOLFE
The second death from diphtheria in Ross County this year occurred Saturday, when Merle Edward Wolfe, 9, died at 5:30 p.m. at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wolfe, west of Kingston. The boy is survived by his parents, Merle and Elizabeth Jones Wolfe; and two brothers, Charles Herbert and Benjamin Franklin, at home. Private funeral services took place Monday at 2 p.m. at the home of the grandparents, with the Rev. A.M. Forreaster officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Donald E. Whitsel.

Mrs. Rosetta Wolford, 100, formerly of Lick Run Road, died 8:50 a.m. May 25 [1994] in Heartland of Chillicothe following an extended illness. She was born Sept 19, 1884 in Ross County to Charles and Rachel Shaw Ward. In April of 1901 she married John W. Wolford, who died May 17, 1936. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Alma) Schrake, Mrs. Clarence (Edna) Woodbridge, Lick Run Road; a son, Everett D. Wolford, Chillicothe; 25 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 46 great-great-grandchildren; four great-great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Bertha McQuaide, Hallsville; and a brother, Dan Ward, Sidney, Ohio. She was predeceased by a daughter, Grace Chaffin, a son, Harold Wolford, three grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, four sisters and four brothers. Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesdayat the Ware Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Lusher officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetary. Friends may call at Ware's after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

SHELBY WOLFORD
Shelby E. Wolford, 63, of Frankfort, died at 3 p.m. Sunday at the VA Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was born April 17, 1927, in Chillicothe to Ralph and Lilly Boring Wolford. He was a World War II Navy Veteran; a retired machinist at Mead Corporation, Chillicothe following 47 years of employment; Frankfort American Legion; and Paper Workers Local 731. He was married April 3, 1948, to the former Naomi Boltenhouse, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Krista W. Burns, Mrs. Lonnie (Shella) Frey both of Frankfort; one granddaughter; two step-brothers, Gerald and Roger Bethel, both of Chillicothe. He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and two stepbrothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fisher-Anderson Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with the Rev. Glen Herman officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday.

John Wood, 67, died at 1:40 a.m., Wednesday in his home in Bainbridge following an illness of one year. Mr. Wood was born Aug 8, 1885, in Jackson County, son of Joshua and Effie Leach Wood. Surviviving him is his widow, Alta Ward Wood.

Pennoky E. Wood, 100, formerly of Richmond Dale, recently of Columbus, died at 10 p.m. Jan. 29, 1992, at the home of her daughter, Marilyn Sindel, Gahanna, following a six month illness. She was born Jan. 2, 1892, in Richmond Dale to Robert W. and Minerva Tomlinson Davis. Surviving are daughters, Ruth Ferrari, Columbus, Helen Polen, Chillicothe; daughters and sons-in-law, Glenna and Ray Roy, Columbus, Marilyn and Dr. Walter Sindel, Gahanna, Iris and Jack Raver, Westerville; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert [Treasurer of Pickaway County] and Carol Wood, Circleville, Guy and Mitzi Wood, Canal Winchester; and daughters-in-law, Opal Wood, Richmond Dale, and Marcia Wood, Bexley; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sons, Glendon, Harry, Emmett, John Jr. "Pud" and Bill Wood; two brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Wood was retired from Bond's Clothing Store as a bookkeeper in San Francisco, returning to Columbus in 1971. Funeral services are to be held Saturday in the Ware Funeral Home, with Rev. Steven J. Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware's from 6-9 p.m. Friday. [NB: Pennoky Davis Wood was married to John Wood and they had several children before they divorced, according to Laurie Harper, wife of Steve Harper, grandson of Helen Wood Polen. John Wood's wife at the time of his death at Bainbridge was named Alta Ward. Opal Wood was married to Pud Wood, who is buried at Richmond Dale. These Woods are related to my Rileys. John Wood's father was Joshua Riley Wood.]

C.D.Wright Passes Away Wednesday, Had Been In Failing Health The Past Five Years, Funeral Friday -- Charles D. Wright, aged 80 years, a large land owner in Perry township, died Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at his home in Circleville. Mr. Wright had been in failing health for the past five years, his last serious illness being of five weeks duration. He was a director of the Farmers National Bank of Williamsport. A son, Walter, is employed at the Clarksburg Motor Sales. He was born at Richmondale, May 3, 1857, and was the son of George and Elizabeth Myers Wright. He married Keziah Wakefield 50 years ago. Surviving him are his widow and three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ebenhack of Williamsport, Mrs. Maude Tarbill of New Holland and Mrs. Vida O'Brien of Columbus; six sons, Walter of Williamsport, Cecil of Erie, Pa, Marvin of Teaneck, N. J., Noel E. of Columbus, Ercell and Home of New Holland; also two brothers, John Wright of New Holland and William Wright of Florida; one sister, Mrs. Ida Griffith of New Holland. Private funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the residence with Rev. H. A. Sayre of the M. E. Church in Circleville officiating. Burial will be made in New Holland cemetery by C. E. Hill.

JOHN WRIGHT, AGED 63, VICTIM OF PARALYSIS ATTACK; FUNERAL TUESDAY - John Wright, aged 63, prominent, Ross Co farmer, died at his home near Greenland, at 4 a.m. Sunday following a stroke of paralysis. He was born Jan. 1 1867, and was never married. He is survived by one brother, Douglas of Chillicothe and sister, Mrs. Frank White, Frankfort. Funeral services were held at Brown's chapel, Ross Co., Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Miller, of Clarksburg, officiating. Burial was in the chapel cemetery by Metzger and Fisher.

Mr. Alexander Wyckoff, 85, retired Pike County farmer, died at 8:30 pm Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Clara Mustard, near Elm Grove. He is survived by one son, Jessie, Bloomingburg; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Findley of Idaho, Mrs. Bessie Mustard and Mrs. Clara Mustard both of Elm Grove; his wife, Mary, preceded him in death. Services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday at the Idaho Church with the Rev. Harvey Powell officiating. Interment will be in the Penn Cemetery near Latham by A. M. Gregg, Waverly.

He was born October 3, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio, to Jerry Alan (Linda) (Edwards) Young, who reside in Circleville.
