ALBERT BENNETT

Albert D. Bennett, 69, of 6416 County Road 550, Frankfort, died at 10:17 pm Tuesday in Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. He retired in September 1970 after 19 and a half years of service with the Mead Corp.as a millwright. His funeral will be a 2 pm Friday at the Ware Funeral Home with the Revs. Gene Williams and Jack Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery where a graveside service will be conducted by the United Paerworkers International Union AFL, CIO, CLC, Local 731, of which he was a member. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 pm Thursday. Born Feb. 4, 1910, in Yellowbud, he was the son of Charles D. and Mary Etta Shasteen Bennett. On Sept. 2, 1934, he was married to the former Marguerite Walston who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Paul, Westford, Mass., Ronald D., East Lebanon, Maine, and Marvin E., Frankfort; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Crawford, Route. 1, and Mrs. Jeannette Norman, 185 E Seventh St.; and six brothers, Henry, N. 107 N. Hickory St., Willard "Chip" and Robert, both of Route 1, Leonard, 610 Cherokee Road, George, Route 2, Williamsport, and Harold, Sulphur Lick Road. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Phyllis Ann, and a sister. Memorial tributes may be made to the Concord Township Emergency Squad, in care Ruth Dyke, Frankfort.

BETTY BENNETT

Betty E. Bennett, 69, of 610 Cherokee Road died 7:21 pm Sept. 27, 1990 in Medical Center Hospital. She was born March 14, 1921 in Higgins, PA to Willis N. and Louise Wisburn Bartlett. On January 8, 1943, she married Leonard Bennett, who survives. Also surviving are sons and daughters-in-laws, Terry L. and Kathy Bennett, Barry D. and Jeanne Bennett, all of Kingston; four grandchildren, Jonathan, David, and Betsy Bennett, and Elizabeth Anne Williamson; sister, Jean Tarlton, Pottsville, PA; and two brothers, William Bartlett, Pottsville, PA and Walter Bartlett, Milford, DE. She was preceded in death by son, Leonard Jr., and daughter, Carolyn Williamson Johnson, a sister, Ida, and a brother, John. Mrs. Bennett was a member of MADD and Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Sunday at Haller Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willard Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery. Friends may call 5-9 pm Saturday at Haller Funeral Home.

CHARLES BENNETT

Charles Dennis Bennett, 94, Yellowbud Road (Route 1) died at 1:40 pm Wednesday at his residence after a brief illness. Funeral services for the retired laborer will be held at 2 pm Saturday at the Springbank United Methodist Church. The Revs. Jack Norman and Barry Bennett will officiate and bural will follow in Springbank Cemetery. Friends may call Ware Funeral Home after 4 pm Friday and on Saturday until noon; then at the church one hour prior to the service. A native of Ross County, he was born Oct. 28, 1884, in Deerfield Township to Jeremiah and Jeanette Hill Bennett. On Oct. 26, 1907, he was married to the former Mary Etta Shasteen who died June 30,1966. Surviving are seven sons. Albert, Frankfort; Willard and Robert, Yellowbud; George, Williamsport Pike; Henry, Chillicothe; Leonard, Cherokee Road, and Harold, Route 1, Frankfort. Two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Jeanette) Bennett, Chillicothe, and Mrs. Walter (Betty) Crawford, Yellowbud Road; 50 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Claris Bennett, North High St. He was predeceased by a daughter, a brother and three sisters. He was a member of the Yellowbud United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Modern Woodmen of America, Camp 10323.

CLARIS BENNETT

Claris Edward Bennett Sr., 95, of Yellowbud, went to be with his Lord February 16, 1998, at 1:00 pm in Valley View Manor Nursing Home, Frankfort, Ohio. He was born January 3, 1903, in Yellowbud, Ohio, to Jerimaha and Clara Fox Bennett. On May 31, 1924, he married Evelyn (Easter) Bennett in Calvary Evangelical Church in Circleville, Ohio. She preceded Claris in death on March 10, 1987. Claris is survived by daughters, Jean E. Clark, Columbus, and Ruth E. Thompson, Kingston; sons and daughters-in-law, John E. and Betty Bennett, Frankfort, and Claris Edward Jr. and Patricia Bennett, Kingston; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Debra (Bennett) Park; two sons-in-law, Kenneth Clark and Dale Thompson; a brother, Jerimaha Bennett; a sister, Dorothy; two half-brothers; and four half-sisters. Mr. Bennett, a retired carpenter and electrician, was a lifetime member of Yellowbud United Methodist Churh where he was Sunday School Superintendent, led the singing, and was a delegate to the Methodist Conference for many years. he was also on the building fund committee and help build the church parsonage. For 77 years, he dedicated his life to building the kingdom for Christ's sake. The funeral will be 11 am Thursday, February 19, 1998, at the Hill Funeral Home in Kingston, with ths grandson, Rev. Dan Bennett, officiating. Burial wll follow in Springbank Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2-9 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through your local church to the Gideons or to Valley View Manor in Frankfort, Ohio.

DELLA MAE TOOTLE BENNETT

Della Mae Tootle Bennett, 75, of Yellowbud, died April 22, 1997 at Berger hospital.
She was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Pickaway Co., the daughter of Earl And Della Mae Stevenson Tootle. On Aug. 12, 1939, she married George Bennett, who died Jan. 5, 1994.
She is survived by children, Larry Bennett, Beaver, Gary T. (Evelyn) Bennett, Lancaster, Rick (Kathy) Bennett, Mt. Sterling, Judy Johnson and Della Patricia (Dave) Whitten, all of Circleville; brother, Eugene Tootle, Circleville; sister, Genveive Carroll, Chillicothe; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her parents; son, George Jr., brother Ed; sisters, Marguerite Rhoads, Madonna Stevenson, and Freida Lewis.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Hill funeral Home, Kingston, with Rev, Willie Booth officiating. Burial will follow at the Springbank Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Friday at Hill’s.

FREDA BENNETT

Mrs. Freda Bennett, 36, died unexpectedly in bed at 4:45 am Thursday of a heart attack. Mrs. Bennett was born in Scioto County on May 4, 1918, and was married to Willard Bennett in 1939. They had lived in New Holland about a year. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Long of Tipp City and Miss Virginia, at home; three sons, William, Donald and Willard Jr., all at home; her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gaines; two half sisters, Mrs. Henry Bennett of Chillicothe and Mrs. Betty Prior of Tipp City; and a half brother, Elmer Glenn of Florida. Service will be at 2 pm Sunday at the Yellowbud EUB Church and interment will be in Springbank Cemetery under direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, New Holland. Calling arrangements have not been completed.

GEORGE F BENNETT- Chillicothe Gazette- Jan. 1994

George F. Bennett, 77, of Rt. 104, Yellowbud, died 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 1994, in Medical Center Hospital, unexpectedly. He was born March 14, 1916, in Ross County to Charles Dennis and Mary Shasteen Bennett. He was married August 12, 1939, to the former Della Mae Tootle, who survives.

Also surviving are daughters and son-in-law, Judy K. and Jim Johnson, Chillicothe, Patty and David Whitten, Circleville; son, Larry A. Bennett, at home; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Kay Bennett, Lancaster, Ricky and Kathy Bennett, Williamsport; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette Norman, Chillicothe, Betty Crawford, Yellowbud; brothers, Willard Bennett, Yellowbud, Henry Bennett, Chillicothe, Leonard Bennett, Kingston, and Harold Bennett, Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bennett was predeceased by a son, George F. Bennett, Jr. and brothers, Albert and Robert Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was retired from the Chillicothe V.A. Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Ware Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Springbank Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware’s from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

HENRY BENNETT

Henry E. Bennett, 82, of N. Hickory St., died 10:45 pm Wednesday, October 16, 1996, in Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Columbus, following a short illness. He was born February 3, 1914, in Yellowbud, to Charles D. and Mary Shasteen Bennett. He was married August 5, 1939, to the former Elsie C. Gaines, who survives. Also surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Roger McWhorter, Shirley and Tony McQuay, Nancy and Delbert Perry, and Rob Jones, Patricia and Larry Jones; daughter, Carol Sue Bennett; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Cassie Bennett; all of Chillicothe; and son, Ricky Allen Bennett, at home; 17 grandchildren, incuding a special grandson, Scott Bennett; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette Norman and Betty Crawford; brothers, Willard Bennett and Harold and his wife, Norma Jean Bennett, all of Chillicothe; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Leonard, George, Bobby and Albert Bennett. In 1975, Mr. Bennett retired from the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he had worked for 38 years. He attended the Brookside Church of Christ in Chirstian Union. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday in the Ware Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack Norman officiationg. Burial will follow in Springbank Cmetery. Frends may call at Ware's from 5-8 pm Sunday.

JAMES BENNETT

James W., son of Isaac N. and Mary J. Bennett, was born Feb 25, 1871, departed this life Sept. 27, 1913, aged 42 years, 7 months and 2 days. He was one of a family of nine children, five boys and four girls. Three brothers, a sister and his father and mother have preceded him to the grave. Jim, as he was commonly called, was a kind man and was never heard to speak an unkind word of anyone. He was quiet in disposition and went about without offense to anyone. He was fond of reading and enjoyed being alone.

JANET BENNETT

Mrs. Jerry [Janet Hill] Bennett, of Yellowbud, died at the hospital at Circleville yesterday, where she had been taken to have an operation performed. She could not withstand the shock of the operation and succumbed. To add to the sorrow and grief of the husband and four children, the six months' old child of the deceased mother died in the afternoon, of cholera infantum, following its mother in about four hours.

The funeral services of the late John H. Bennett were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon, in the Walnut Street M.E. church, Rev. A.M. Curtenay, assisted by Dt. S.N. Watson, officiating. Interment followed in Grandview Cemetery. Those acting as pall bearers were W. F. Sulzbacher, Wm. C. Dunlap, harles G. Brandle, Major C.T. Mason, J. Harold Howson and Joh A. Poland.

LEDA BENNETT

Leda F. Bennett, 80, Cherry Street, Waverly, died Wednesday morning in Bristol Convalescent Center. She was born 17 Apr 1920 in Floyd County KY, and was preceded in death by her husband, John Clifford Bennett. Surviving are one daughter and one son. She attended Waverly First Baptist Church. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Botkin Funeral Home, Waverly. Burial will follow at Waverly Evergreen Union Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

LEONARD BENNETT

Leonard T. Bennett, 77, of Greenfield, formerly of Kingston and Chillicothe areas, died 10 pm October 24, 1995, at the Medical Center Hospital. He was born July 18, 1918, in Yellowbud, to Charles Dennis and Mary Etta Shasteen Bennett. On Nov. 6, 1993, he married Jewell Parker, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Kathy Bennett, and Barry and Jeanne Bennett, all of Kingston; three stepsons, Drew Parker Jr., John and Steve Parker, all of Greenfield; three stepdaughters, Mrs. George (Patricia) Garinger, Kathryn Wolffe and Marsha Parker, all of Greenfield; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; 18 step-grandchildren; 23 step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Willard, Yellowbud, Henry, Chillicothe and Harold Bennett, Frankfort; two sisters, Betty Crawford, Yellowbud, and Jeanette Norman, Chillicothe; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Bartlett Bennett; a son, Leonard T. Bennett Jr.; a daughter, Carolyn Williamson Johnson; three brothers, Albert, Robert and George Bennett; and one sister, Genieve Bennett. Mr. Bennett retired in 1972, as a nursing assistant at the Chillicothe V.A. medical Center. He was a Army veteran of World War II, where he served in North Africa, Anzio and Sicily campaigns. He was a member of the Greenfield Bible Baptist Church, American Legion Post 62, V.F.W. Post 4736, DAV, NARFE Chapter 315, and the Ross County Committee for the Elderly. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Friday at the Yellowbud United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ed Caskey officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Springbank Cemetery. Calling hours will be 6-9 pm Thursday at Haller Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday.

Leroy E. Bennett, 73, of Washington Court House, died Friday morning in Ohio State University Hospitals, Columbus.
He was born April 3, 1917, in Ross County. He was the husband of the former Ruth B. Hill.

Lillian A. Bennett, 62, Chillicothe, died July 11, 1992, at Westmoreland Place, Chillicothe. Born September 10, 1929, Cedar Hill, she was the daughter of Siebert V. and Moldred P. Brown Hettinger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Bennett, Sr. She is survived by five sons, Dale R. Bennett of Chillicothe, Robert J. Bennett, Jr., Harry A. Bennett, and Tony Lee Bennett, all of Uniondale, Indiana, and Darryl Ward of Ashville; three daughters, Sally (James) Brown of Uniondale, Indiana, Charlotte, J. (Jeffrey) Rex of Tucson, Arizona and Mary (Huber) Toliver of Knoxville, Tenn; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mabel Hettinger and Bonnie ("Randy") Crowe, both of Groveport, Betty McCoy of Lancaster, and Judy Limmings of Westerville; and six brothers, Lloyd and Herman Hettinger, both of Circleville, Clyde and Pearl Hettinger, both of Amanda, Kenney Hettinger of Baltimore, and Dale N. Hettinger of Lancaster. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Springbank United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gene Williams will officiate. Burial will be at Springbank Cemetery. LYDIA BENNETT

Mrs. Lydia Bennett of Yellowbud was born May 24, 1838 and died October 3rd, at the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 9 days. She was ill three weeks. Fifteen children were born to Mrs. Bennett, six of whom are living, viz., James, Jeremiah and Peter of Yellowbud, Charles of Columbus, Alfred this city and Mrs. Whiten of Wayne Township. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 10 am sun time at Spring Bank church and interment will be made in Springbank Cemetery.

MARY BENNETT

Miss Mary Eliza Bennett, better known to her friends as Miss Minnie Bennett, died at one pm on Saturday, December 21 [1929]. She was the daughter of Thomas Van Swearingen Bennett and Mary Crouse Bennett, ans was born in this city, October 11, 1851. Most of her life was spent at the old Crouse homestead near Kinnickinnick. She leaves to mourn her loss, one brother, John Crouse Bennett, of Kinnickinnick, and two nieces, Miss Florence Van Swearingen Bennett an Mrs. Clarck Rice. Funeral services will be held at the home of her cousin, Miss Martha Bennett, at 10:30 Tuesday morning. Burial will be in Grandview. The Rev. H.J. Buckingham, rector of St. Paul's chrch. of which church Miss Bennett was communicant, will be in charge the services.

MARY BENNETT

Mrs. Mary Etta Bennett, 78, of Route 1, died Thursday night in Chillicothe Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Yellowbud EUB Church and an honorary member of the Modern Woodmen of America Camp 10323. She was born July 14, 1887, in Ross county to Robert and Nancy Murphy Shasteen. On Oct. 29, 1907, she was married to Charles D. Bennett, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Jeanette) Norman of Carroll and Mrs. Betty Crawford of Route 1: seven sons, Albert and Harold of Frankfort. Route 1. Willard of Route 1. Leonard of Route 4. Henry of Chillicothe, and George and Robert of Williamsport. Route 2: 45 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren: two sisters; Mrs. George (Oda) Arledge of Chillicothe and Mrs. Merle (Sarah) Croft of Columbus; and a brother, Charles Shasteen of Route 1. A daughter, a sister, and a brother preceded her in death. Service will be a 2 pm Sunday in the Spring Bank Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

ROBERT BENNETT

Robert J. Bennett Sr., 68, of 629 Yellowbud Road, Yellowbud, died unexpectedly at 3:48 am August 29, 1988, at his residence. He was born December 28, 1919, in Yellowbud to Charles Dennis and Mary E. Shasteen Bennett. On July 16, 1967, he married the former Lilian A. Hettinger, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Robert J. Bennett Jr., Harry A. Bennett, Tony Lee Bennett, all of Uniondale, Ind., Darryl Ward, Ashville, and Dale R. Bennett, at home; daughters, Mrs. James (Sally) Brown, Uniondale, Ind., Mrs. Jeffrey (Charlotte J.) Rex, Keystone, Ind., and Mrs. Hubert (Mary) Toliver, Uniondale, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette B. Norman, Chillicothe, and Mrs. Betty A. Crawford, Yellowbud; five brothers, Willard D. and George F. Bennett, both of Yellowbud, Henry E. and Leonard T. Bennett, both of Chillicothe, and Harold W. Bennett, Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew M. Long; a brother, Albert Bennett; and a sister, Genevive Bennett. RONALD BENNETT

Ronald D Bennett, 58, retired Navy, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, of Route 202, died Monday evening at Portsmouth New Hampshre Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born December 11, 1937, in Lancaster, Ohio, a son of Albert and Marguertie Walston Bennett. He entered the Navy in 1955, and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1974. He was a member of the Seabees. In 1960, he spent a year in Antarctica. His tours included Guam, Cuba, Thailand, Newfoundland, Rhode Island and Portsmouth, VA. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy, he was employed as a pipefitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until 1993. He loved his family, gardening, fishing, hunting, and reading. He is survived by his mother of Frankfort, Ohio; his wife of thirty six years, Juanita (Lytle) Bennett; three daughters, Mrs. Garth (Jeanne) Adams, of Gray, Rhonda Bennett, Raymond and Jenna Daniels, of E. Lebanon; a grandson, Alexander Adams, of Gray; and two brothers, Paul, of E. Lebanon, and Marvin, of Frankfort, Ohio.

TERRY BENNETT

Terry L. Bennett, 48, of 8358 St. Rt. 159, Chillicothe, died 11 am September 23, 1996, at his residence. He was born July 22, 1948, in Chillicothe, to Leonard T. and Betty Bartlett Bennett. On April 2, 1968, he married Kathy Immell, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Betsy Bennett, of Gahanna, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Jeanne, of Kingston; nieces and nephews, Jonathan and David Bennett, Beth Anne Lowman, Rodney, Rusty and Katie Wiget and Jessica C.J. Immell. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard , Jr.; and a sister Carolyn Johnson. Mr. Bennett was a former clerk for Green Township for twenty years and a former member of the modern Woodman of America and a member of Kingston United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, September 26, 1996, at Haller Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Berne officiating. Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery, Yellowbud. THOMAS BENNETT

March 26, 1903, Scioto Gazette

Thomas Bennett died at his home in Yellowbud at 2 o’clock this morning, after a four days’ illness with cerebral hemorrhage. The deceased was 69 years of age and leaves a wife and six children, five sons and one daughter, to mourn his demise.

The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Springbank church, Rev. Peitsmeyer officiating. Interment will take place in Springbank Cemetery.

WILLARD BENNETT

Willard D. "Chip" Bennett Sr., 87, of Yellowbud, died at 2:40 am Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in the Adena Regional Medical Center following a short illness. He was born May 1, 1912, in Yellowbud, to the late Charles and Mary Shasteen Bennett. He was married April 19, 1938, to Freda Gaines, who died July 15, 1954. Surviving are sons and daughers-in-law, William and Barbara Bennett, Troy, Ohio, and Willard Jr. and Sharon Bennett; and son, Donald Bennett, all of Yellowbud; daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Bob Doseck, Piqua, Ohio; daughter, Virginia Arthurs, Yellowbud; 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette Norman, Chillicothe, and Betty Crawford, Yellowbud; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Norma Jean Bennett, Frankfort, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Bennett, Frankfort, and Elsie Bennett, Chillicother; many nieces, nephews and friends; and good friend, Mary Harp, Yellowbud. He was predeceased by daughters, Alice and Mona Sue Bennett; a sister and five brothers. He loved gardening, fishing and his grandchildren. Willard was a member of the I.U.E. Union having retired in 1972 from General Motors in Marine City where he had worked for 24 Years. He was a member of the Yellowbud United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 1 pm Friday with Rev. Gene Williams and Rev. Jack Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ware Funeral home from 5-8 pm Thursday. GLADYS M. (BENNETT) JOSLYN

Funeral service for Mrs. Gladys M. Joslyn, 59, of 503 E. Second St. will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ware Funeral Home.

The Rev. Amel Hughes will officiate, with burial following in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.

She died at 8 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Carmel Hospital West, Columbus, following a two month illness. She was the daughter of Alfred and Mertice M. Waits Bennett, born on Nov. 25, 1913 in Chillicothe. On April 6, 1932, she married Charles H. Joslyn, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, William R., 104 Prospect St., and James E., 505 E. second St.; two grandsons, J.W. and Hal R. Joslyn, both of 104 Prospect St.; two sisters, Mrs. Carl E. (Margaret) Magill, Route 8, and Mrs. Paul (Annabelle) Harris, Chillicothe; four brothers Arthur H. Bennett, Route 10, Robert A. Bennett, San Diego, Calif., Leroy E. Bennett, Washing Court House, and Earl e. Bennett, Route 3; and several nieces and nephews.
