AMERICA WARD

Mrs. America Ward, 88, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday [17 Aug 1950] at the home of a son, Clarence Ward, of Portsmouth Rt 4, or Milldale Rd. Mrs. Ward was born Jan. 27, 1861, in Lawrence County, Kentucky, a daughter of John and Elizabeth Hicks. She came to Portsmouth in 1935 from Russell. Mrs. Ward was united in marriage to W[illiam]. R. Ward and he preceded her in death in 1929. Surviving are three sons: Clarence, at whose home she died; Manuel, of Tyro; and Monroe, of Milldale Rd; two daughters: Mrs Ollie Boggs, of Baltimore; and Mrs. Ona Hicks, of Chillicothe. Mrs. Ward was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union on Milldale Rd. The body is at Windel-Howland Funeral Home. [Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Wheelersburg.]

FLORENCE WARD

Mrs. Florence B. (Belle) Ward, Route 6, died at 6 P.M. Sunday evening [31 Aug 1958] at the home of a daughter Leora Butterbaugh 108 Douglas Ave. [Chillicothe] after a lingering illness. She was born July 21, 1880 in Vinton County, a daughter of Jacob and Sara Graves Lewis. In Oct. 1899 she was married to William Ward who survives. Also surviving are five daughters. Mrs. Edith Bush, Route 6; Mrs. Phoeba Butcher, Kingston Route 2; Mrs. Rachel Butterbaugh, Route 6; Mrs. Leora Butterbaugh, and Mrs. Geraldine Sparks, Chillicothe; two sons, Audrey, Columbus and Clarence, Route 6; a brother, Andrew Lewis, Chillicothe; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Shewalter, Route 3, and Ida Shewalter, Chillicothe; 33 Grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Spud Run Bible Christian Church. Service will be held at Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. Clifford Massie officiating and assisted by the Rev. Louis Counts. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery by Root Memorial Home. Friends may call at the Home of Mrs. Edith Bush Route 6 after 7 P.M. Tuesday.

GEORGE WARD

George A. Ward, 83, of Spud Run Road, died 3:00 p.m. Tuesday August 7, 2001, in O.S.U. Hospitals, Columbus, Ohio, following an extended illness. He was born Jan 5, 1918, in Ross County to the late Thomas H. and Rhoda Davis Ward. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Della Butterbaugh, on November 24, 1988. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Susie Ward, Ernest and Linda Ward, Dan and Becky Ward; son, Joby Ward; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Larry Detty; daughters Clara Tisdale and Rachael Tisdale, all of Chillicothe; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sister Helen Downs; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Eddie Kellough, all of Chillicothe; brothers and sisters-in-law Bob and Iris Ward, Bournville; Lloyd and Maggie Ward and Floyd and Margie Ward, all of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Julia, a granddaughter; four brothers and a sister. George served in the Army Air Force during WWII. He was a retired self employed timberman. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday in the Spud Run Bible Christian Church with Rev. Don Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetary where there will be military graveside rites by the Ross County Veterans Firing Squad. Arrangements are under the direction of Ware Funeral Home. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service at the Church on Saturday.

IDA WARD

Miss Ida Frances Ward, 44, died early today in Athens state hospital after an illness of a year. She was a resident of New Boston. She is survived by her mother, Mrs America Ward, four brothers, Mack of Waterloo, Clarence, Fred and Monroe all of New Boston; two sisters, Mrs. Oney Neal of Chillicothe and Mrs Ollie Messer of Baltimore. The body may be viewed at the home of a brother, Fred Ward, 316 Ohio Ave, New Boston. Burial will be under the direction of Piatt Gill.

MARY WARD

Service for Mrs. Mary A. Ward, 218 N. Bridge St., was held at 2 pm Monday in the Fawcett Oliver Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Lusher officiated, and and burial was in Grandview Cemetery. Mrs. Doris Shriver was organist. Pallbearers were Lyman and William Arnett, Ray Parker, and Charles, Harold and Gordon Hixon.

MONROE WARD

Funeral services for Monroe Ward, 53, of 7 East Cross St., Baltimore, Md., will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Milldale Road Church of Christ in Christian Union. Mr. Ward, former Portsmouth resident, died of a heart attack at 10 a.m. Tuesday in South Baltimore General Hospital. He was born May 2, 1904, in Greenup County, a son of William and America Hicks Ward. Mr. Ward had resided in Baltimore 12 years. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are two brothers, Emanuel Ward, of Piqua, Ohio, and Clarence Ward, of Milldale Road; and two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Boggs, of Baltimore, with whom Mr. Ward resided, and Mrs. Ona Hicks, of Chillicothe. Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and seven brothers. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Windel-Howland Funeral Home today.
