Colonel Joseph Hinson, which occured December 2, 1904, at the home of his daughter in Tacoma, Washington, where he had made his home since the death of his wife several years ago. He participated in the battle of the war at Vienna, where his comrade John Barnes was killed and John Volmar lost his right arm torn off by a cannon ball. Returning home from the three months service, he at once set to work to recruit a company here for the 33rd Ohio Regiment, and entered the service again as First Lieutenant. He participated in all the engagements his regiment took part in, up to the great battle of Chickamauga, where he lost an arm while gallantly leading his men in the face of the murderous fire of the enemy. He finally recovered from his wounds and proceeded at his position. He resigned his position in the Army and came home, but remained here only a short time, when he went to Toledo. From there he went to Wisconsin where he bought a farm and for twenty years he was extensively engaged in raising fruit. In 1888, he removed to Tacoma, Washington, where, after the death of his wife about six years ago, he made his home with his daughter, who resides there with her husband.
