James Jackson McCluer was born near Bellville, Oh., 20 Sep 1818. When he was 19, the family moved to Ill.. In Ill. he married Nancy W. Luthill (Tuthill) in 1840. They came to Mo. in 1864. He went west in 1891, spending 2 years in Mont. & Calif. & has since lived a number of years in Garden Plain, Kan.. The last 3 years has been spent with his wife at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dewitt C. Campbell. He leaves his wife & several children. Services and burial at the Allendale M.E. church and cemetery.

James J. attended his brother John A. McCluer's wedding and also his golden wedding and his brother John A. McCluer attended his wedding and golden wedding anniversary.

James J. McCluer's wife, Nancy Wheeler Tuthill is 8th descendent from John Alden of Mayflower fame. A most unusual entry on the 1850 Census for Perry County Illinois indicates such and was later proven by their descendants. James Jackson McCluer died March 19, 1904 near Allendale, Smith Township, Worth County, Missouri and is buried in the cemetery there.
