Will of John G. Kent

At a special Court of Common Pleas, here a testament is before the County of Richland and state of Ohio on the 29th day of March 1833 present the Honorable Isaac Osborn, William Riddle and Benjamin Jackson official judges of the said court who being called at the request of Wm Kent to attend to business of a testamentary nature.  In the matter of the Last will and Testament of John G Kent, decd.  The last will and testament of John G Kent late of Green Township of the aforesaid county Richland was presented in open court and then upon came Stephen Smith and Mary Ann Johnston the subscribing witnesses and where examined in open court and there upon appearing to the satisfaction of the court that said Last will and Testament of said John G Kent late of said county deceased was duly executed by said Testator and said John G Kent was at time of said executing the same of full age and sound mind and memory and not under any constraint whatsoever.  It is then upon order by the Court that the Clerk record said will and that the executor thereof be committed to Margaret and Joseph Kent, the executrix and executor in said will named on their giving bond and security in the amount of Seven Hundred dollars consideration as the law requires and John Johnston being offered as security was accepted of by the Court and the Court does further appoint Joseph Workman, Thomas Anderson and James Gladden honorable men of said county appraisers to appraise the personal property of said deceased.  And then upon the said Executor and Executrix was duly sworn in open court which said last will and testament is as follows to wit:

In the name of God, amen.  I John G Kent, of Richland County and state of Ohio, being afflicted in body but of sound mind and memory before the Almighty God for the same do make this last will in manner and same following that is to say, First, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret Kent one third part of property both real and personal during her natural life.  I also give bequeath to my beloved and oldest son John G Kent sixty acres of the North side of the Northwest quarter of Section number two,  in Township Twenty and Range Sixteen.  I also give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Pettinger five dollars.  I also give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Hilborn five dollars.  I also give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Wolfe the sum of five dollars which said legacies of fifteen dollars is to be paid out of the avails of my personal property after my debts are paid.  I also give and bequeath to my four younger sons namely Joseph Kent, William Kent, David Kent and Joshua Kent the remainder of my estate both real and personal property to be equally divided among them after paying all my lawful debts and further I do hereby appoint my wife Margaret Executrix of this my last will and testament.  Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 24th day of December, 1831.

Where for on the 29th day of March, 1833, the following Testamentary duly to said Margaret Kent and Joseph Kent to wit.  The state of Ohio , Richland County , and David Higgins Esquire President of the Second Circuit Court of Common Pleas, and Isaac Osborn, William Riddle and Benjamin Jackson, officiate judges of the same court with and for the county of Richland aforesaid in the named…….
