FIRE.  On Wednesday evening last, about 10 o'clock, a small building immediately north of Ricket's gun shop was discovered to be on fire.  Immediately after the alarm was given the fire companies were on the ground and with their usual efficiency, saved a portion of the property.  The building was owned by Mr. J. Shull, and occupied by Mr. J. Stenbeck, most of whose goods were removed before much damage was done.  Mr. S.'s loss is about $300, which is mostly covered by insurance.  It was the work of an incendiary;  and at the same time an effort was made to fire the gun-shop adjoining, but fortunately the kindling went out before doing any damage.
