William Parsons (aka:  Smith) Bigamy Charge, 1909

A dispatch from Gallipolis (OH) states that a man was held there on the charge of bigamy.  It states that he married a woman at Mansfield last September under the name of Smith.

The dispatch follows:

William Parsons was held Tuesday to answer in court to charges of bigamy.  It is asserted that he was married in Gallipolis in 1904 and that in 1907 he was married to Rosa Thompson in Huntington, W. Va.  Last September it is said, under the name of Smith, he was married to a third woman in Mansfield, O., without an  [sic.] deaths or divorces in his family history.

Wife number one complained against him and wife number three produced a marriage certificate before the mayor today.

Parsons said he did not know whether he was married to number two or not, as he was drinking at the time of the alleged marriage.
