Daily, John -- KILLED ON THE RAILROAD -- On last Sabbath evening, John Daily and John Gibson (known as Scotty), left Mansfield for their boarding place at Alta, and on coming to the railroad, four miles south of the city, Daily concluded to return on the railroad, but Scotty wanted to go home ---<< missing text >>--- his comrade. He found him lying near the track, some two miles out from the city, in an unconscious state, and came to the city for aid, which he failed to procure, and then went to a boarding house and took lodging, at a late hour. In the morning section men found Daily in a dying condition. He was brought to Flannery's and died Tuesday. He had evidently been struck by a passing locomotive or train of cars. A Coroner's inquest was held on Wednesday. The two men were in the employ of the B.&O. R'y, on a construction train. [Mansfield Daily Flag: 31 December 1874, Vol. 5, No. 26]

Daingerfield, W.A. -- "Died, in the city of Washington, W.A. Daingerfield, Esq., only son of the late R.T. Daingerfield, in the 29th. year of his age. Mr. Daingerfield was admitted to the bar of the District of Columbia about four years ago. Soon after commencing his career he was sorely afflicted with the disease which terminated his life on the 7th. of May, 1875. The young lawyer's fair flowers of hope were all blighted by disease and death. He met his sad fate with quiet, manly firmness. For a long time he may be said to have looked at death face to face in the near future. His faithful courage never was shaken. His death was sudden. Though expected at some not very distant day, his sisters were shocked at the swiftness of the summons. The first information of a change in his condition for the worse, told them that all was ended for their brother in this world; it cares and sorrows, its joys and hopes. The human flower the sisters loved so well is now planted in earth, to bloom again with immortal beauty in heaven. This is our faith and hope. -- A.B." The above is taken from the Washington Chronicle of the 11th. inst. Mr. Daingerfield, whose premature death is announced, was at one time a resident of Mansfield, and will be remembered by many as a young man of more than ordinary attainments; a genial gentleman, kind and amiable in his disposition, with a high sense of honor. He came to Mansfield in June 1865, from Xenia, Ohio, read law with Messrs. Burns & Burns; was admitted to the bar in October, 1867, after passing a rigid and thorough examination, with credit to himself and his preceptors. After his admission to the bar, he returned to Cincinnati, where his sisters then resided, and after spending a short time seeking a location, he finally settled in Washington City was admitted to the bar of that city, and commenced the practice of the law, determined to contend with the old and able practitioners of the Federal courts, and win his way to an honorable distinction in the profession, he had by his industry and perseverance, laid the foundation of a brilliant future. Dalton, ---- -- Independence, O., Jan. 13, 1878. We are sorry to have to note the death of several of our old citizens during the past few weeks. Among them were John S. Myers, Wm. Remy and Father Dalton. There is considerable sickness in the town and vicinity. [Ohio Liberal: 15 January 1879]

Dalton, John -- John Dalton, aged 76 years and ten months, died at his residence in Plymouth Township, April 7th., 1892, of a complication of diseases superinduced by la grippe. Deceased was born in Ireland in 1815 and emigrated to this country in June, 1848, and worked in Shelby as a section hand for nine years at the remarkably small wages of seven shillings a day and saved enough money to buy the farm on which he resided at the time of his death. Dalton, Michael J. - Mansfield - Michael J. Dalton, 41 of 10113 Allenwood Drive, Riverview, Fla., died unexpectedly Tuesday at his home. Born May 7, 1953, he was the co-owner of the Dugout Tavern in Ashland before moving to the Tampa Bay area 15 years ago. He was a environmental technician and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He is survived by his father, Robert Dalton of Mansfield; a brother Timothy R. Dalton of Mansfield; his companion, Mary L. McAuliffe of Riverview, Fla; sister-in-law, Terri Dalton of Mansfield; and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother Frances Armstrong Dalton. Calling hours at Geiger-Herlihy Funeral Home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where the vigil prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Damback, William -- Saturday. Wm. Damback, aged 64 years, residing 4 miles north of the city, died late yesterday afternoon of cancer of the stomach. The deceased leaves a wife and eight children. Funeral services will bae held at the residence tomorrow at 10 o'clock. The deceased was a soldier in the late war and on the arrival of the remains in this city at 12:30 they will be buried by the G.A.R. with the honors of war. Danals, Neva -- Mrs. Neva Danals, 77, of Wadsworth died Friday in Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born in Ontario and had lived in Wadsworth 39 years. She was a member of the Wadsworth United Methodist Church and Lodge 102, Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are her husband Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Funk of Lodi, Ohio and Mrs. Ray Willis of Lodi, California; a son, Charles of Wadsworth; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Dent, and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Miller, both of Mansfield. Danals, Vernon -- Vernon Danals, 87, of Wadsworth, died Friday at his home. He was born March 4, 1896, in Ontario, and lived in Wadsworth for the past 44 years. He was retired from the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and was stationmaster and operator at Wadsworth Depot. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Wadsworth Masonic Lodge 385 and Order of Eastern Star 102. His is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Naoma) Funk of Lodi, Ohio and Mrs. Ray (Jean) Willis of Lodi, California; a son, Dr. Charles R. Danals of Wadsworth; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ozella Burger of Galion and a brother, Leon Danals of Ontario. Danals, Wayne E. - Ontario - Funeral services for Wayne E. Danals will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Finefrock Funeral Home by the Rev. Leland Wiley, associate pastor of Ontario United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spingfield Township Fire Department. Mr. Danals, 76, 3651 Pearl St., died early Tuesday morning in Mansfield General Hospital following an extended illness. He was born July 31, 1914, in Ontario to Harry Albert and Pansy Rutter Danals, both of whom are deceased. He was an area resident all his life. He was a foreman for the Richland County Highway Department for 24 years, retiring in 1967. He served as fire chief for Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department for 42 years and retired the Jan.1. He was a member of the Civilian Conservative Corps, and during World War II he served with the military police. Surviving are his wife, Susann Shrader Danals, three sons, Larry W. Danals and James Ed Danals of Ontario, and Clyde Dan Danals of Mansfield; two daughters, Nancy C. Burton of Massillon and Carolyn J. Hoover of Mansfield; two brothers, Dick a Danals of Alexandria, Va., and Wilber L. J. Danals of Perrysville, six sisters, Mary Ellen Patton of Shelby, Betty J. Briner of Mansfield, Jacqueline J. Wilson and Zelda D. Thomas, both of Seminole, Fla., Pancy Tucker of Fort Scott, Kan., and Linda D. Clark of Pinellas Park, Fla., 14 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Danforth, Olive J. -- Mrs. Olive J. Danforth died this morning at her residence at the corner of First and Main Streets. Several weeks ago she met with a serious accident from which she never recovered. Mrs. Danforth was the mother of O.L. Danforth and came to Mansfield to live about the same time her son did. Danner, Franklin B. -- Franklin Danner, of whose illness we made mention in previous issues, died at the home of his nephew, Mr. & Mrs. Dayton Danner, just west of town Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock. Had deceased survived until March 14th. next, he would have been 60 years of age. He was a kind-hearted man, jovial in disposition, and had many friends. Funeral services were held from the home of his nephew, Dayton Danner, on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. A.B. Danner, Franklin B. -- Franklin B. Danner was born in Adams Co., Indiana on the 14th. day of March, 1854, and died the 17th. day of February, 1914, aged 59 years, 11 months and 3 days. He was the youngest child of a family of nine children born to James and Ruth Danner, of Decatur, Ind. Of this family two sisters and one brother survive him. Of his own family he leaves one son, Mr. Otis Danner, of Decatur, Ind. The deceased came to Plymouth in the spring of 1892, and has made and called his home with his nephew, Dayton Danner, during these twenty-two years. He was familiarly known as Uncle Frank by all the neighbors and friends. Among his characteristics he was noted for his jovial and kind disposition. He was always wanting to help some one else rather than being helped for waited on. He was generous to a fault. Darling, Abram -- Butler. Abram Darling, an aged resident of the vicinity of Newville, died Thursday morning, Aug. 11, after a lingering illness with a complicated disease. Darling, Amelia -- Butler. Mrs. Amelia Darling, wife of Robert Darling, Jr., died suddenly Friday night after a short illness. The funeral took place Sunday at 2 p.m. from the family home near St. Johns, conducted by Rev. O.C. Kramer of Perrysville. Deceased was a cousin of Mrs. A.R. Darling, Elizabeth - Mrs. Elizabeth Darling was born August 27, 1832. She became the wife of William McClelland Darling on April 6, 1851. To them were born seven children, three sons and four daughters, Mrs. Mary Pervise, Mrs. Selina J. Smith, Mrs. Annette Shanaberger, Mrs. Elwilda Irvin, John F., who died in infancy, and Harry E. Mr. Darling died July 17, 1876. Mrs. Darling, with her family, then had to face life's realities and fight its battles alone. But she did this bravely and had the satisfaction of seeing her children become grown men and women. She gave one son, Winfield, to the Spanish-American war. She spent the years of her widowhood on the old farm. Harry, her youngest son, remaining with her to the last. She was stricken with apoplexy and after lingering for a week passed away September 26, 1904, aged 72 years and 28 days. For many years she had been an exemplary member of the St. John's church, from which the funeral occurred on September 28th, Rev. S. F. Kieffer conducting the services. Darling, Elmore E. -- Independence. Elmer Darling died last Thursday morning. He is the eldest son of Pass Darling, and was only married last Christmas. -- [Bellville Star: 26 February 1885, Vol. 8, No. 22]

Darling, Elmore E. -- Newville. Elmore E. Darling, son of J.P. Darling, was born May the 19th., 1862, and died on the 19th. inst., aged 22 years and nine months. His ailment was inflammation of the bowels produced by obstruction of the bowels. His wife of two months, young, beautiful and accomplished was overcome with grief. He was buried on the 20th., at the St. John's Cemetery. Rev. McGloughlin conducted the funeral services. -- [Bellville Star: 26 February 1885, Vol. 8, No. 22]

Darling, George W. -- Newville. George W. Darling died the 14th. inst. after many years of suffering from lung trouble. He was 71 years old and was born in Washington township, near the site of the old block house. As soon as he was old enough to handle a hoe or ride a rose his father set him to work. His father was a man who never tolerated idleness or had any sympathy for a lazy person. The deceased was married to Rebecca Jane McCullough, of Newville, and he leaves a wife and three children besides a large circle of relatives to mourn his loss. He was buried at St. John's cemetery. Darling, John Riley -- John Riley Darling, aged 22, son of John M. Darling, died of diphtheria, between Perrysville and Newville Wednesday morning. Darling, Mary (Grubb) -- Lexington. Intelligence has been received here that Mrs. Mary Darling, formerly of Lexington, had committed suicide by drowning in a cistern at her boarding house in Columbus recently. Ill health was the cause. Her husband, who is a railway mail clerk, and two children survive her. She was born and reared her, her parents being Mr. & Mrs. George W. Grubb, now residents of Columbus. Darling, Mary Leiter -- COUNTY NATIVE DIES AT HOME OF HER SON -- Mrs. Mary Leiter Darling, a native of Richland County, died yesterday afternoon at the home of her son, W. Darling, 21 North Franklin avenue, after a prolonged illness. She was born on a farm near Lucas and resided in that locality for many years. She is survived by one daughter Mrs. Linnie Enlow of Mifflin, one son W. Darling of this city, and a brother W. S. Leiter of Lucas. Private funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home of her son, and burial will be made at the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Lucas. Darling, Mrs. J.P. -- Newville. After a lingering illness of over a year, Mrs. J.P. Darling died the 14th. inst., aged 42 years and 10 months. Her trouble was of the liver and kidneys. Darling, Mrs. William -- Butler. Mrs. Darling, relict of the late William Darling, died Tuesday morning from the effects of a paralytic stroke which he sustained last Thursday. Darling, Robert. -Robert Darling, aged 71 years, died at his home, north of Davis, Sunday evening, after a short illness with the grip. Deceased was the father of Mrs. A. R. Stichler and Mrs. O. B. Darling, William -- Sad Accident in Cass. On Saturday afternoon last, William Darling, Esq., an esteemed citizen of Cass township, was having his crops threshed. Leaning over the tumbling shaft of the machine to speak to Mr. Bistline, one of the threshers, his clothes were caught by the end of a small burr in the shaft, whirled around several times, striking his head upon the floor, and otherwise injuring him. A bolt came out of the "connection", and the machine suddenly stopped. He was immediately cut loose from the shaft, but was insensible, and so continued until his death on Sunday night. Darling, William -- William Darling was born December 17th., 1814, died in Richland County, Ohio, August 24th., 1874, aged 59 years, 8 months and 7 days. He leaves a wife and two children to mourn their loss. Funeral services at Ganges Church. Darlington, Priscilla (Holmes) -- Died, At Truxville, in this county, on Thursday morning, 20th. instant, Mrs. Priscilla Darlinton [sic], wife of R. Darr, ---- -- A few minutes after the arrival of (Michael) Klein's body at the depot, word was received that Erie Engineer Darr, who left this city at 11:30 in charge of the west bound freight train No. 83, had been killed about the same hour. At Condon, a small station between here and Ontario, Darr stepped out of the cab to oil his engine while the train was running. As he stepped upon the foot board he lost his balance and fell, killing him instantly. The remains were taken on to Galion, the home of the deceased. Engineer Darr was about 35 years of age and leaves a wife and four children to mourn their loss. The deceased was well and favorably known among railroad men, having been in the employ of the Erie company for years. Daugherty, Nancy -- Oliver Hiskey and Nancy Daugherty lived at Bellville, and the latter claimed to have been married to the former. On Thursday morning last it was rumored that Nancy had been poisoned and was dying. Nancy was aged about nineteen years. She bore a good character and did not receive particular attention from any gentleman until about eight months ago, when an attachment grew up between her and Oliver Hiskey, aged about nineteen years, youngest son of Enoch Hiskey, who lives to miles west of Bellville. Nancy is the daughter of a guard at the penitentiary at Columbus, and was living with her cousin, Asa Gatton, in Bellville. Hiskey was dissipated, and the Gattons therefore disapproved of the attachment, but the girl persisted in clinging to Hiskey, and finally said that they were engaged to be married. Early in February Hiskey and Nancy came to Mansfield, and on their return home announced that they had been married. They were assigned a bed-room off the parlor in Mr. Gatton's house which the couple occupied when Hiskey was at home. After a time Mr. & Mrs. Gatton, supposing that all was not right, remonstrated with Nancy, but the girl persisted in claiming that the marriage ceremony had been properly performed. Daum, Caroline Susan (Smith) -- Mrs. Caroline Daum, wife of Charles Daum, died Sunday afternoon a few minutes before 3:00 at her home, 140 South Adams street. The immediate cause of her death was paralysis. One week ago an infant son was buried. Mrs. Daum was born at Orrville 36 years ago, and her maiden name was Caroline Susan Smith. She would have celebrated her 36th. birthday anniversary Tuesday. She leaves a husband, two daughters, aged 7 and 5, and an infant son, aged one week. Her mother and two sisters from Orrville were at her bedside when she passed away. She has a brother living at Orrville. Daum, Catherine -- Mrs. Catherine Daum, aged 78 years and 3 days, died at the home of her son, Charles Daum at 140 South Adams Street, Wednesday evening about 8 o'clock, after an illness of five weeks, death being due to infirmities of old age. She was the widow of George Daum, who died 35 years ago. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Leonard Schell, Mrs. John Bricker, Mrs. John Boals, Mrs. Peter Spriesterbach and Mrs. Parl Wilhelm and one son Charles, twenty-two grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Daum, George -- Monday. George Daum, aged 83 years, a pioneer of Mansfield, died at his home on Spring Mill street at 7 o'clock this morning. The deceased emigrated to this county from Germany in '46 and has been a resident here ever since. He was afflicted with cancer and, although death was not unexpected, yet the end was sudden, coming while Mr. Daum was seated in a chair. A wife and six children are left to mourn the loss of a husband and father. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Bethelt officiating. Daum, John -- John Daum, an old farmer living about two and a half miles northwest of Mansfield, committed suicide on Tuesday evening by hanging himself in an out-shed or barn of his brother. The beam to which he attached the rope was only about six feet three inches from the floor, and the loop through which he put his head about three feet from the beam, so that he must have put the loop around his neck while standing on the floor and thrown himself forward, thus strangling himself to death, as he was found braced forward nearly prostrate on the floor. Daup, Miriam M. -- Miriam M. Daup, age 91, former Shelby resident died Sunday, May 8, 2005 in Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard. Born Feb. 5, 1914 in Richland County to Mason & Mary Catherine (England) Boor, she had been a Shelby area resident since 1924. A homemaker, she was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Rebecca Circle, and was a former member of the Shiloh Grange. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Catherine and Kermit Noble of Shiloh; two grandchildren and their spouses, Brad and Amy Glaze of Powell, and Catherine Ann and Doug Skinkis of West Chester, IL; four great grandchildren, Zachary, Molly and Allyson Glaze and Gavin Skinkis; two brothers, Salo and Robert Boor, both of Shelby; two sisters, Elsie Cline of Shelby and Martha Jean Smith of Steuben; nieces; nephews; and other relatives. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Leo Daup, in 1981; one son, Edward Eugene Daup; four brothers, Grayson, Gerald, John Henry and Eugene Boor; and three sisters, Doris Taylor, Joy Longnecker and Ramona Crall. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh with Rev. David A. Carter officiating. Davies, Jefferson D. -- Jefferson D. Davies, who has been in ill health for a couple of years as the result of an accident sustained while he was a conductor on the Central Ohio Traction company's line, passed away about 9 o'clock Tuesday night at his home in the rear of 14 Lexington Avenue. Mr. Davies was about 30 years of age and is survived by his widow and two little daughters. His brother, Tom Davies, of Marion, was at his bedside when he died. Mr. Davies had a shirt making establishment here for some time. Later he was a conductor on the Mansfield electric line and later with the Ohio Central Traction Company. As a result of a fall from the rear platform of a car he sustained internal injuries from which he has suffered ever since. Dr. Todd. of Galion, was here this afternoon and assisted by a couple of Mansfield physicians held a pot mortem examination. Funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by the Rev. Dr. W.A. Wright of the M.E. church. Interment in the Mansfield cemetery. Davis, Durbin "Derb" -- Coroner Baughman held an inquest Friday evening at Ganges over the body of Durbin Davis, the young man, aged 22 years, who was found dead along the roadside Friday afternoon, an account of which was given in Friday's News. The body of the young man was found along the road, near the home of Ben Cline, about one and a half miles west of Ganges. The discovery was made by Chester Wyerman and Stella Burgoyne, who were driving along the road about 2 o'clock in a buggy. They drove to Ganges and reported the death. Young Davis was dead when found. He was removed to the home of his father, Otis Davis, in Ganges, later in the afternoon and it was there that the inquest was held by the coroner. Five witnesses were examined: Otis Davis, Dr. Lybarger, Wesley Fickes, Stella Burgoyne and Chester Wyerman. The evidence was to the effect that young Davis left home about 10 o'clock Friday morning on a borrowed bicycle to go to Shelby after some laundry. He was on the return trip when death overtook him. The evidence seemed to show that he had taken sick as he was riding along and had dismounted from the wheel, trundling it along beside him. He had sat down at the road side and the wheel was leaning against him. No evidence of struggle was seen and death must have come suddenly as he sat there. The young man had been treated for heart trouble several years ago, but of late there had been no complaint from this source. He was evidently unaccustomed to riding a wheel any distance and had probably over exerted himself, thus bringing on the attack which resulted in his sudden death. It is stated that he received a hard fall from the wheel Friday and this may have contributed toward causing his death. He had been an employee of the Shelby tube works. Davis, Durbin "Derb" -- Ganges. Derb Davis, a son of Mr. & Mrs. Otis Davis, of this place, was seized with heart failure last Friday while returning from Shelby on his wheel, and he fell dead about one mile west of here. He had alighted from his wheel before he fell. Derb left home that morning to transact some business and was apparently well and in good spirits, although he had been affected with heart trouble for several years. He was good-hearted and industrious and well liked by all who knew him. The sudden demise was a severe shock to his parents, brother and sister, also to the community. He was past 22 years of age. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. Loose at the church Sunday at 10 a.m. The remains were laid to rest in the Ganges Cemetery. Davis, Earl -- Mansfield. Earl R. Davis, age 65, a resident of 661 Pennsylvania Ave., died Monday afternoon at Mansfield General Hospital following a two week illness. Born August 14, 1902, in Vinton County, Ohio, he had lived here most of his life. He retired in 1965 from the maintenance department at the Westinghouse Electric Corp. Surviving are his wife, Ruth M. Sams Davis; four sons, Earl K. Davis of Bellville, Glen Davis of Bloomington, CA; and Zane and Robert Davis, both of Mansfield; three daughters, Mrs. Earl Frederick of San Bernadino, CA; and Mrs. June Murphy, and Miss Ruth O. Davis, both of Mansfield; 20 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Clara Freeman of Warren, Ohio. The body was removed to the Wappner Funeral Home where services will be held a 10 AM Friday conducted by the Rev. Don Bock, pastor of the Lincoln Heights Church of the Christ in Christian Union. Davis, Ida (Coe) -- After several months' illness with tuberculosis of the throat, Mrs. Ida Davis, a former resident of Butler, died Sunday at 11 a.m. at the home of her father, Stephen Coe, one mile east of Davis. The funeral took place Wednesday at 10 a.m. and services were conducted at Bunker Hill by Rev. J. Montgomery, of Perrysville. Deceased was about 48 years of age and leaves five daughters and two sons. They are: Ethel Dailing of Buckingham, Wash., Mrs. Geo. Howarth, of Newark, Misses Maud, Bertha and Dora, who have been residing at Columbus the past few months, Willard C. of Newark and Orvell of Columbus, a fireman on the Pan Handle railroad. Several months ago deceased, with her children moved to Columbus. About the middle of February she was brought home and since that time has been gradually growing weaker. Davis, formerly a resident of this city, heretofore noted in these columns, the Columbus Dispatch says: "Mary Etta Sargent was born in Hampstead, N.H., July 24, 1853. In 1863 she removed with her parents to Erie, Pa., and in 1865 came to Columbus with them. She was married October 7, 1874, to John H. Davis, who with their four children, Ivy Belle, Harriet L., John H. and William B., mourn the wife and mother called beyond. Davis, Mary (Goon) -- Miss Mary Davis, nee Goon, relict of the late Abner Davis, died Friday at 1 a.m., after a lingering illness. Burial occurred Saturday at 1 o'clock, the remains being interred in the Bunker Hill cemetery, with Rev. Henry, of Plymouth, officiating. Deceased was born in Westmoreland County, Pa., Nov. 4, 1811, and removed to Ohio in 1840. She joined the Lutheran church at the age of 14, but of late years has been a member of the Clearfork Presbyterian church. Davis, Reuben -- Davis. Reuben Davis (about 42 years of age), living near this place, committed suicide Tuesday night about 10 o'clock by shooting himself in the head with a 32 caliber revolver. His death was instantaneous. Mr. Davis has been an invalid for the last 10 years. Kidney and lung trouble with nervous prostration were his trouble. Mr. Davis had not lain down for over three years on account of his lungs being so badly affected he could not breathe when laying down. He is about 42 years old and leaves a wife and seven children some of them quite small. Funeral Friday, will leave the house at 1 o'clock. Funeral services at the Bunker Hill Church and the remains buried in the cemetery there. Services conducted by the Rev. Kramer, pastor of the Lutheran church at St. Johns. Davis, Reuben -- Butler. The funeral of Reuben Davis took place last Friday at 1 o'clock at Bunker Hill, the Rev. Kramer, of Perrysville, officiating. A large concourse of people were present to pay their last tribute of respect. Six brothers-in-law of the deceased acted as pall bearers. Davis, Walter -- Friday. The remains of Walter Davis, who died at the residence of his brother, Edward, on Spring Mill Street, Wednesday evening, were taken to Alliance today for burial. Davison, Doreen. -- Mansfield. Doreen Davison, 65, of 200 Ohio St., retired employee of the Economy Savings & Loan Co., died in Mansfield General Hospital this morning. Miss Davison was born in England and came to the United States in 1920 and took up residence in Mansfield. Surviving are one niece, Mrs. John Twomey of Rye, N.Y., and a nephew, Charles Davison of Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be held in the Finefrock Funeral Home Monday at 1 p.m. by Dr. W.H. Davy, Asher D. -- Asher D. Davy, aged about 45 years, died at his home on East Fourth Street, at 12 o'clock last night of consumption. Asher, who has been a familiar figure in the city for years, had only been confined to the house for about one week. The deceased at one time was a fine telegraph operator and in his life time held numerous positions of trust, but owing to his appetite for drink he was unable to retain them. He once held the responsible position of train dispatcher on the Northern Pacific railroad. He was his own worst enemy. Divorce proceedings brought by the deceased's wife are now pending in Common Pleas court. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. [Richland Shield & Banner: 21 November 1891]

Dawsey, David -- Bellville. Mr. David Phelps has informed us that he has just received news of the fate of Mr. David Dawsey. It will be remembered by old citizens that he left Bellville in 1853, going overland to California. From California he went to Oregon and thence to Idaho Territory in which territory he located a stock ranch at the mouth of the Brunean River. He lived there till 1878 or 1879 when he accidentally shot and killed himself. This will be of interest to his many relatives in this vicinity, who up to this time have had no idea where Mr. Dawsey was or what business he was engaged in. Dawson, Ella (Clark) -- Mrs. Ira Dawson died at her home one and one-half miles west of town, Tuesday evening, Aug. 2, at 11:45 o'clock, death resulting from ptomaine poisoning. Mrs. Dawson was taken sick shortly after the noon hour Tuesday, and from that time suffered terribly until death relieved her. Ella Clark was born in Plymouth Township, Richland County, Ohio, October 13, 1858; died August 3, 1915, aged 56 years, 11 months and 20 days. She was married to Ira Dawson, October 2nd., 1888. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Gloyd Russell, Fred and Frank Dawson, all of Shiloh. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, three children, two grandchildren, one sister, Mr. J.H. Dawson of Shiloh, and a large number of relatives and a host of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Dawson moved to their late home about 27 years ago, where they have resided ever since. Mrs. Dawson was a life long member of the Lutheran church, being a member at Plymouth and later at Shiloh. The funeral services were held Friday at 1:30 o'clock p.m. standard time from the late home. The services were conducted by Rev. Ross Miller of the Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, and interment will be made at Mt. Dawson, Mary (Briggs) -- Mrs. Mary Dawson, wife of John W. Dawson, died at her home in Shelby last Saturday, aged 66 years and 4 days. Mrs. Dawson's maiden name was Mary Briggs. She was born in England and came with her parents to America when she was five years of age, since which time she has been a resident of Richland County. She was married to Mr. Dawson in 1851. Five children, three sons and two daughters, were born to them. One of the daughters is dead and all the other children are married. Mrs. Dawson was a member of the Methodist Church and a highly respected lady. Her bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of many friends in the great loss they have sustained. The funeral took place on Monday and the interment was made at Mt. Pleasant church, in Plymouth Township. Rev. Dawson, Mrs. William -- Mrs. Wm. Dawson, aged 55, was found by her husband about 5:30 Tuesday morning hanging by a stocking around her neck from a rafter in an out house, near the Plymouth fairgrounds. Day, ---- -- Joseph Day resides about three miles south of this city. Sunday morning his twelve-year-old son attempted to lead a horse to water, when his foot caught in a loop at the end of the halter strap. The horse became frightened and started to run away, dragging the fated boy with him. Mr. Day who was a witness to the awful scene mounted a horse and attempted to save his boy, but was unable to do so until the boy had been dragged fully a mile over rough ground. The victim of the accident was torn and mangled in a sickening manner. The funeral occurred yesterday. [Ohio Liberal: 21 December 1881]

Day, ---- -- Sunday morning the twelve year old son of Joseph Day, living three miles south of Mansfield, met with a horrible death. In leading a horse to water his foot caught in a loop at the end of the halter and the horse becoming frightened ran away, dragging the boy at his heels. Day, Albert G. -- According to the prediction of Dr. W.E. Loughridge in Friday's Herald, Mr. Albert G. Day's condition during the day continued to grow worse until 5 o'clock p.m. when he passed restfully away. His health had been poor all winter, but he was confined to his bed only nine days after his malady took the form of quick consumption. The direct cause of his premature demise was the possession of a too delicate constitution. He was constantly attended during his illness by Mr. J.G. Eggleston and by his aunt, Miss Barbara Mount of Galion, to whom he was indebted for his bringing up. He was 29 years of age, his last birthday falling on March 13th. His parents, who reside at Bloominggrove, near Galion, were present at his death-bed, and his brother Walter B. Day arrived late that evening from Deer Lodge, Montana Territory. The funeral of Albert G. Day took place at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the residence of his cousin, Mr. A.C. Day, at the intersection of Sherman and Marion avenues. The obsequies were conducted by the Rev. Albert D. Knapp, pastor of the M.E. Church, in the presence of a large assemblage of sympathizing friends and relatives. The remains were removed from his late apartments in the Sturges block to the residence of his cousin Saturday afternoon. The floral emblems were in very good taste. Members of the local bar attended the funeral in a body. About a dozen members of the Ashland bar, who intended to be present, were prevented by the train being two hours late. The parents and brothers of the deceased were present, as well as his aunt and other relatives. Mr. Day was a member of the law firm of Burns & Day, and possessed a good legal mind. Day, Charles Wellington -- Charles Wellington Day, son of Matthias Day, 91 Marion Avenue, died at 1:30 Wednesday morning. He was the youngest of five sons and was nearing his thirty-first birthday. He was a member of Company M, 8th. Regiment Ohio and his exposures and diet at Santiago and Montauk Point brought on a tuberculosis of the lungs, stomach and bowels. For nineteen months he fought off the disease and his sufferings during the latter part of his illness were intense, yet borne without a murmur. Day, Charles Wellington -- The funeral services of Charles W. Day, of whose death of tuberculosis mention has previously been made, took place Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his late home on Marion Avenue, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Charles Lemoine, of the First Congregational church. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. The deceased was a member of Company M of the 8th. Regiment Ohio Volunteers, and served with it in Cuba, during the Spanish-American War. About thirty members of the company under the command of Lieut. Starrett were in attendance at the funeral. The pallbearers were the following members of the company. Sergeant Charles Shea, Sergeant Harry Bride, Corporals Richard Rickets, James C. Lamberton and Privates Robert Bradford and Edward Dickson. At the cemetery a firing squad from the company fired a salute over the grave of the deceased comrade and the company's bugler, William Ayers, sounded "taps". Day, Cyrus -- Cyrus Day, a well known farmer, residing a mile southeast of Lexington, dropped dead Thursday afternoon of last week as he was returning to work in the field after dinner. He had been digging potatoes during the forenoon and after finishing his dinner had left the house to go back to the potato field. As he reached the barn yard he suddenly dropped over and died in a few minutes. His son was near by at the time and seeing him fall ran up to him. The stricken man died before medical aid could be summoned. Day, Elizabeth -- BELLVILLE, Feb. 4 -- Miss Elizabeth Day died Friday morning and was buried Saturday at 1 o'clock. Rev. Hyde officiated. The deceased was 41 years old and was a member of the M.E. Church for 15 years. Miss Day did so much sewing work for missionary boxes and boards that she will be sadly missed. Her aged father and sisters have the sympathy of the entire community. Day, Marcus -- Lexington. Marcus Day, an old and well-known resident of Troy Township, died suddenly at the home of his son near Caledonia, O. He, being eighty six year of age, had been residing for some time past with one and another of his five children. Day, Marcus -- Friday. Marcus Day, aged over 80 years, a well known resident of Springfield Township, died at his son's home in Caledonia yesterday of old age. The remains will be brought to Lexington for burial. The deceased was well-known throughout the county as one of the pioneers, having lived a great many years about five miles west of the city, and his many friends here will learn of his death with regret. Day, Marcus -- Marcus Day, who died Aug. 31st., was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, March 7, 1808, consequently he was 84 years, 8 months and 24 days old. He moved with his parents to Richland County, Ohio, in September, 1815, and has resided there ever since that time. He was married September 23, 1830, to Mary Ann Young. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church about 55 years ago, was ordained in the ministry about 30 years ago, and by the grace of God, through faith, has ever been supported and upheld through the many years of the vicissitudes of life ever since, and in which he still confided to his death. Her maiden name was Edsall and she was one time identified with the public schools at Galion in the capacity of teacher. Her parents are still living at Ontario. The lady was quite well known here. Day, Mrs. Matthias --The entire community was shocked today to learn of the death of Mrs. Matthias Day, which occurred at 2:20 o'clock this morning. The cause of the death was internal cancer. The death was not entirely unexpected as Mrs. Day had been quite ill since last December. At that time she was seized with an attack of la grippe. From February until about two weeks ago she suffered much. Last Sunday Mrs. Day was seized with a severe fainting spell and from that time she gradually grew weaker until death relieved her. The deceased was a woman greatly beloved by her many acquaintances for her many estimable qualities and sterling Christianity. Mrs. Day was the mother of seven children, one of whom, a daughter, died in infancy. The remaining children are well known in this city. They are: Miss Mary F. Day; Ralph B. Day, traveling salesman for the Aultman-Taylor works; Louis Day; Lieut. Matt. Day, U.S.A.; Will Day, of Fostoria; and Charles W. Day, a student at Mt. Union College, Alliance. All were at home at the time of their mother's death. The funeral services will be held at the residence, 91 Marion Avenue, Monday at 2 p.m., the Rev. J.W. Dean, John T. -- The funeral of Mr. Dean took place on Sunday afternoon from the Universalist church, the services being conducted by Rev. C.P. Nash. The church was crowded to its utmost capacity and crowds were unable to gain admittance. Dean, Margaret (Ritchie) -- Mrs. Margaret (Ritchie) Dean, beloved wife of James H. Dean, died at the home of her son, W.H. Dean, Dec. 16. She was the daughter of Wm. and Elizabeth Ritchie, and was born in Washington County, Pa., aged 84 years, 3 months and 12 days. When about eleven years of age she came with her parents to Ohio and settled in Richland County, two and a half miles north of Bellville. During the early part of her youth she experienced much of the rugged pioneer life of those days. Just before entering upon the more serious duties of life, at the suitable age of nineteen, she gave her heart and life to Jesus and united with the Presbyterian Church at Bellville. Two years later, she was united in marriage with James H. Dean. They settled on a farm adjoining her father's where they resided for twenty years, when they removed to Knox County, purchasing a farm two and a half miles south of Fredericktown. Four sons were born to them, as follows: W.H., B.F., J.M. and J.J., three of whom survive her, B.F. having died in November, 1900. -- [Butler Times: 11 January 1908, Vol. 14, No. 18]

Dean, Margaret. - John J. Dean, of Glessner avenue, has received word of the death of his mother, Mrs. Margaret Dean, of Fredericktown, Monday morning at 9 o’clock at the home of her son, Hanson Dean. She sustained a stroke of paralysis from which she never rallied. She was 86 years of age and is survived by three sons, Hanson and Morris Dean, of Fredericktown, and J. J. Dean, of this city. Dean, Mary J. -- Bellville. Mary J. Dean died on October 22nd., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.S. Olin, at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 13 days. Dean, Sarah J. -- Mrs. Sarah J. Dean died on Sunday evening Sept. 2nd. at the age of 68 years, 8 months and 13 days. The funeral took place from her late residence on South Main Street, on Tuesday at 10 o'clock, Rev. Philpot officiating. The history of the horrible deed which caused the death of Mrs. Dean is still fresh in the minds of all. It will be remembered that during the night of March 15th., her husband, John T. Dean assaulted her with a hatchet, while she was lying in bed and after beating her head almost to a jelly left her for dead and then went to the barn and suicided by cutting his throat. Neighbors went to the house at about 8 o'clock the next morning and found Mrs. Dean unconscious and almost dead from the effects of the wounds inflicted on her head. Surgical aid was summoned immediately and the wounds dressed. Contrary to the expectations of all she rallied somewhat and lived up to Sunday evening. DeArth, Albert E. -- Albert E. DeArth, age 78, of 335 South Diamond St., died early this morning in Mansfield General Hospital following a one-year illness. He was born Dec. 18, 1892 in Canada and lived here most of his life. Mr DeArth was a retired self-employed carpenter and contractor. During World War I, he served with the Canadian Air Corps. Surviving are his wife, Addie Delp DeArth, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body is at the Wappner Funeral Home where services will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in charge of the Rev. Robert B. Bowman St. Mrs. DeHART was the widow of the late William DeHART and leaves four sons and four daughters to mourn her loss. She was stricken with paralysis two weeks ago Sunday and this resulted in her death. She leaves three children by a former marriage (to Edward McGOURN, Sr.): Mrs. Jeremiah (Kathryn) MACKLEY, (James) Ross and Edward McGOURN, Jr. of this city. The other children are Mrs. C. Kurt (Kate) HAYES of Sheridan- ville, PA, Mrs. J. C. (May) ROBINSON of Sewickly, PA, Mrs. George W. (Ida) BRISTOW, and Harry and William DeHART of this city. DeHart, Thomas -- Thomas DeHart, a tailor in the employ of Gustav W. Brunk, died very suddenly this morning about 6:30 o'clock at his home, 124 West Fourth Street. He got up quite early this morning and was downstairs doing some work when he complained to his wife that he was not feeling well. He complained of a pain in his back and asked that she make him a mustard plaster. While Mrs. DeHart was doing this he came upstairs and went to bed. When Mrs. DeHart came into the room she asked him how he was feeling and he replied that he had been very short of breath but that now he was able to breathe a little easier. She noticed that he looked peculiar and as he seemed to be getting worse she ran for assistance, calling in Mrs. Thomas Shocker, a neighbor, and when she returned he was breathing his last. Medical aid was summoned and Dr. Lockard responded but when he arrived Mr. DeHart had passed away. The cause of death was pronounced to be heart failure. Mr. DeHart was 46 years of age and leaves a wife, formerly Miss Mary Dull, of Ashland, and two sons, Earl, aged 12, and Marion, aged 7. For a number of years Mr. DeHart resided at Ashland, and came to this city about two years ago. Dehn, Frank B. -- Tuesday. The funeral of Frank B. Dehn was held at his father's residence on West Fourth Street at 12:30 today and was very largely attended. Rev. D.J. Dehn, Frank B. -- Frank B. Dehn died at the home of his father on West Fourth Street yesterday afternoon at 5:15. The funeral will take place from the residence of his father on West Fourth Street, at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 23. The remains will be taken to Galion, and be buried from the residence of Geo. J. Dietrich at 4 p.m. The deceased was about 24 years of age and lived in this city until a few years ago, when he went to Chicago where he was employed as cutter in the tailoring establishment of A.A. Devore & Sons, which position he filled until last summer when he went to Galion, O. A few months ago he went to Denver, Col. for his health, but the atmosphere there did not agree with him and his father, John L. Dehn, was telegraphed for. The senior Mr. Dehn arrived home with his son last Friday. The deceased was married on July 12, 1887 to Miss Mert Deitrich, of Galion, who survives him. Dehn, who was brought home on Friday from Denver in a semi-conscious condition died at the home of his parents on West Fourth Street at 5:15 o'clock Sunday, of what is known in Colorado as mountain fever. For several years past he was employed as a cutter in a leading clothing house at Chicago, but last summer removed to Galion, and a few months ago went to Denver for his health. He was aged 25 years, and was married July 12th., 1887, to Mary Dietrich, daughter of Geo. J. Dietrich of Galion. The funeral will take place today at 12:30 o'clock from the family residence on West Fourth Street. Deighan, George W. -- Many of our citizens will remember George W. Deighan, who formerly lived in Mansfield and learned the printing business in the SHIELD office under the late John Y. Glessner. He was a brother of Mrs. Dr. Race, of this city, and his venerable mother is still living, making her home with Dr. and Mrs. Race. The SHIELD received notice today from Phoenix, Arizona, of the death of Mr. Deighan at that place July 28th. This was the first intimation that his relatives here had of their bereavement, as they had not heard from him in a long time. Mr. Deighan was born at Massillon, Ohio, forty-four years ago. He left Mansfield about fifteen years ago and has lived at various places since then, a part of the time at Brazil, Ind., where for several years he was the editor and publisher of a newspaper called the Western Mirror. Mr. Deighan was a man of rare intelligence and a wonderful memory was one of his characteristics. He was an intense Democrat in politics. At the time of his death he was working for the Tribune at Phoenix, Arizona. The Phoenix Daily Arizonan gives the following account of his death. "George Deighan, who has been an employee of the Tribune for several months past, died suddenly in the Tribune building early yesterday afternoon. The coroner was immediately notified, and empanelled a jury, who, after viewing the remains and listening to the evidence returned a verdict of death from apoplexy. The deceased was seen about an hour previous to the finding of his body sitting in front of the office, and it is presumed that, feeling unwell, he went inside and laid down on the floor. When found, Dr. Hughes gave it as his opinion that he had been dead about half an hour. After the inquest the body was turned over to Phoenix Typographical Union, No. 237, of which he was a member, and by which he was buried at the setting of the sun. The deceased came to Phoenix from Southern California about six months ago. He was a man of more than ordinary intelligence, and had held several positions of trust and responsibility on eastern journals. Delancey, James -- Saturday. Jas. Delancey, the well known sign painter, died at 8 o'clock last evening at his residence on West Fourth Street of apoplexy. He was aged about 49 years. The funeral will take place Monday at 10 o'clock. Interment will take place at Plymouth. Mr. Delancey was seen on the street yesterday and his death was entirely unexpected. DeLancy, Francis E. -- Francis E. DeLancy, the painter and paper hanger, who resided on West Fourth street, died of apoplexy at his home, on Friday evening. At four o'clock, Dr. A.J. Smith was called to the residence and found the patient in a state of collapse. He rendered all the assistance at the command of the profession, but death ensued at about 7:30 o'clock. Mr. DeLancy was a well-known person about town. He was a sign painter about town. He was a sign writer of decided talent. Dell, Michael Sr. -- Tuesday. Michael Dell, Sr., died at 9 o'clock last night at his residence on North Main Street after an illness of eight weeks from a complication of asthma and dropsy. The deceased was aged 67 years, 9 months and 28 days. He was born in Germany and has resided in this city for forty-two years. His family consisted of four sons and five daughters, two of the latter being now dead. The funeral will take place tomorrow at 2 o'clock under the auspices of Richland Lodge, I.O.O.F., of which Mr. Dell has been a member for many years. Delp, Adam -- ADAM DELP DIES: WIDELY KNOWN RETIRED FARMER SUCCUMBS AT AGE 86. Adam Delp, 86, widely known retired farmer of Richland county, died Tuesday evening at the home of his son, Charles Delp, Walker Lake road, after a lingering illness. Born near Crestline, Mr. Delp was a lifelong resident of the county. He and his wife, Wilhelmina, who survives, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last February. He was a member of the First Lutheran church. In addition to his wife, the survivors include three sons, Charles and Edward of Mansfield and John of Toledo; five daughters, Mrs. Emanuel Meily, Mrs. Richard Curry, and Mrs. Ira Hockenberry of Mansfield, Mrs. Lester Sharp of Hamilton and Mrs. Al Dearth of Detroit, 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The body was removed to the Wappner funeral home where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday with Rev. David Mumford, assistant pastor of the First Lutheran church, officiating. Delp, Arthur -- Death released Arthur Delp from his suffering at the hospital Friday around 6 p.m., following his accidental shooting Thursday night while cleaning a revolver at his home No. 247 West Third street. He was conscious up to within a short time of his death. The body was taken to his late home. The deceased was born February 22, 1888, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Delp who reside about 3 1/2 miles northwest of the city. He leaves besides his wife and parents, three brothers, Charles, John and Edward and five sisters Mrs. Emanuel Meiley, Catherine, Caroline, Addie and Mary Delp all of this city. He was a member of the organization of railway telegraphers and his untimely death is deeply regretted by a large circle of friends. Mrs. Minnie Delp, 84, widow of Adam Delp, died Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emanuel Meily, 131 Pleasant avenue, after a brief illness. Born in Germany, March 13, 1866, Mrs. Delp had been a resident of Mansfield 74 years. She was a member of the First Lutheran church. Surviving are three sons, John G. of Toledo, Charles F. and Edwin A. of Mansfield; five daughters, Mrs. Meily, Mrs. Mary Hockenberry and Mrs. Richard Kurry of Mansfield, Mrs. Lester Sharp of Hamilton and Mrs. L. DeArth of Detroit; two brothers, Edward and Ernest Snook of Kansas, a sister, Mrs. Lucinda McKane of Massillon, 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body was removed to to the Wappner funeral home where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Grover ?? (can't read last name) of the First Lutheran church officiating. Deming, May R. -- The Berea (OH) Enterprise of July 5 contains an extended obituary sketch of Miss May R. Deming, whose death occurred at Berea (OH) July 1. The deceased was a daughter of Albert and Angeline Deming, the latter's death occurring in Mansfield last winter, after which Miss Deming and her father removed to Lima (OH). Her death came while she was at the home of A.J. Pillars in Berea, where the funeral was held July 3, the interment being made at Oberlin (OH). She was thirty-two years of age. Demmick, I.G. -- Monday. I.G. Demmick, aged 42 years, died at his home, No. 189 South Main Street, at 4 o'clock this morning. Demoney, Ann -- Died, at her residence in Springfield Township, on Wednesday, February 7th., 1877, at half past four o'clock, P.M., Mrs. Ann Demoney, wife of John A. Demoney, deceased, aged 88 years and four days. She had been a consistent member of the Presbyterian church for over twenty years. The undersigned live in the same house with Mrs. Demoney for over thirty years before her death, and she requested him before her death, to have the same hymn sung that was sung at the funeral of her husband, beginning with -- "Why do we mourn departed friends," &c. Dennison, Charles P. -- Charles P. Dennison, for many years an employee of the A. & G.W. Co., died at his residence on North Mulberry Street, last Friday morning, of dyspepsia, aged nearly 49 years. He had been in feeble health for a year and more, and during all this time he was seldom known to complain. Denman, Clinton -- Clinton Denman, a most worthy citizen, highly respected by all who knew him, died Friday afternoon at 3:15 at his home, 56 Chester avenue, after an illness of a few weeks with typhoid fever which developed into a complication of diseases. His death brought sorrow to many hearts for those who knew him in his every day life appreciated his friendship and realized that a dear friend had departed. His demise was an untimely one after only a few weeks illness. He leaves a wife and two children: Charles and Elsie, besides a mother and five sisters. He was born in Morrow county March 7, 1863, and came to Mansfield fifteen years ago. For a long time he was employed at the Mansfield Machine Works. He was a steady worker, industrious in his habits and devoted to his home and family. For some months he was employed as electrical engineer in a large manufacturing establishment at Barberton, but of late has been an engineer at the power house of the Mansfield street car line. He was greatly interested in everything that would increase his efficiency and that of engineers in general and was an active member of Mansfield Association No. 29, of the National Association of Stationary Engineers. Dennius, Caroline -- LEXINGTON -- Mrs. Caroline Dennius, widow of Charles E. Dennius, died Wednesday afternoon at her home on Grange Street. She was past 83 years of age and is survived by four children: William, O.T., Cora and Leros, all of Lexington. Her husband, Charles E., and son, Edward, preceded her in death several years ago. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon conducted by the Rev. H.B. Allen, pastor of the Congregational church of which Mrs. Dennius was a member. Rev. Denny, Harry A. -- Mansfield - Funeral services for Harry A. Denny, 88, of 60 S. Brookwood Way, who died Monday morning at his home after and extended illness, will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Ontario home of the Wappner Funeral Directors. The Rev. David Chasteen, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Loudonville, will officiate. Burial will be in Loudonville Cemetery. He retired in 1948 as an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a life member of the Moose Lodge and a member of the First Baptist Church of Loudonville. Surviving are his wife, Rella; one daughter, Mrs. Doyle (Adeline) Hosler of Mansfield; three grandsons; one granddaughter, and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Dent was born April 23, 1917, in Springfield Twp., and was a resident of the area all his life. he retired from White-Westinghouse Corp., in 1977 after 39 years. Mr. Dent attended the First Church of the Open Bible. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margie Metz Dent, a son, Harold "Howie" O. of Mansfield; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Marilyn) Bottorf of Mansfield; two step-daughters, Mrs. Jeffrey (Peggy) Stigall of Mansfield and Mrs. Joseph (Betsy) Jaramillo of Mesa, Arizona; and eight grandchildren. DePue, J.S. -- The 4th. of July always has its casualties on account of the various modes of celebrating the day, and we have to record a sudden death, by drowning, and the only accident that occurred -- that of J.S. DePue, master carpenter of this city, who was drowned in the Petersburg Lake, under the following circumstances: Mr. Depue with wife and child made a visit in his buggy to some relatives beyond Petersburg (now known as Mifflin) on the 4th. and upon returning about 3 o'clock, stopped at the Petersburg Lake, where some friends were about to take a swim, and had shoved out the boat to cross to the other side to undress. He called to them to take him in; his wife and child remaining on the bank. There were four persons in the boat -- Thos. Ford, Jacob McCullough, Chas. Blower and Mr. Depue, and after rowing to the other side prepared for a swim in water from twelve to fifteen feet deep. Mr. Ford having swam out a considerable distance upon returning and getting into the boat, heard a gurgling noise and looking around saw Mr. Depue sinking not more than ten feet from the boat, the upper part of his head being yet discernable. Mr. Ford jumped in after him, but he sank so rapidly that he could not reach him, and he did not come up again. It is supposed that he died from heart disease before he went down, as he was known to have an affection of the heart. This occurred not more than fifteen minutes after he left his wife and child in glowing spirits. His wife knew nothing of this sad catastrophe until the boat returned without him, and her agony of mind may be conceived when the terrible fact was broken to her. Hooks were sent for to Petersburg, and the Lake dragged till night without securing the body; but on Sabbath morning it was raised by a fishing spear, and his body brought to Mansfield. On Monday his remains were followed to the cemetery, accompanied by a large number of friends. He was a very estimable young man, aged about thirty -- a member of the Lutheran church and librarian of the Sunday school. He was also a member of the Hook and Ladder company, and highly esteemed by all who knew him. His sorrowing wife and family have the sympathy of our citizens; but that does not fill the vacant chair, or soothe the aching heart. [Richland Shield & Banner: 11 July 1874]

She was born near Shiloh Jan 16, 1925, and had been a resident of Mansfield since 1946. She was a member of the mayflower Memorial Congregational Church. Surviving besides her husband, whom she married Feb. 16, 1947, are one son, Richard Lee DePue, at home; one brother, Norris Latimer, of Greenwich; and one sister Mrs. Madge Robinson, Maple Heights, O.. Derrenberger, three daughters, Mrs. Cloyd Pitman, Hazel and Mrs. Harry Shopbell, all of this city; also five grandchildren. Deschner, Philip Sr. – Philip Deschner Sr., 76, of 29 Small Ave., died Sunday at Mansfield General Hospital following a week’s illness. Born Feb. 1, 1883 in Austria-Hungary, he came to the U.S. in 1889 and to Mansfield in 1901. He was a retired employee of the Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co., and a member of the company 25 Year Club. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Sons of Herman and German Sick Benefit Society. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eva Herrick Deschner; three sons, Henry of Houston, Tex., Philip Jr., and Christian of Mansfield; five sisters, Mrs. Rose Heil of Texas, Mrs. Margret Oertel of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Elizabeth Moltz of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Katherine Kanz of Mansfield and Mrs. Mathies Mayer of Gulfport, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren Two sons, Carl and Richard preceded him in death. Desroe, George B. -- George B. Desroe, an old soldier and railroad man who was well known here, died Friday morning at 1:30 o'clock at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Holmes, 204 North Adams Street, of heart trouble, with which he had been a sufferer for some time. He was born at Sandusky and was 58 years and eight months old. When but a boy he went on the Sandusky, Mansfield & Newark road as a newsboy, and subsequently served in other capacities, as brakeman and conductor on the same road. He enlisted Sept. 7, 1861 in Co. E., 3rd. Ohio cavalry, was made a corporal and was a worthy soldier. He was honorably discharged from the service near Nashville, Nov. 24, 1862 on account of disability. He was united in marriage Oct. 10, 1865 to Miss Nannie Holmes, daughter of Joseph Holmes and wife, of 204 North Adams Street. She died 10 months after they were married. He was a brakeman and subsequently a conductor on the B.&O. and also on the T.W.V.&O. He was a brakeman for some time on the Big Four between Galion and Peru, Ind. He resided at Grand Island, Neb., for seven years and came back here seven months ago. He has resided since that time at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Holmes, where he died. Desport, Richard -- Richard Desport, of 46 W. Fifth Street, died Saturday afternoon after an illness of only one day with paralysis. He was born in King's County, Ireland, 78 years ago and came to Mansfield at the age of 19. Two sons, F.J. Desport of Covington, Ky., and John of Sioux City, Iowa, and five daughters, Mrs. J. Hartford, Miss Sarah and Mrs. Ed Tucker of this city, Mrs. J.E. Campbell and Mrs. Mary Comstock of Cleveland and 11 grandchildren, survive the deceased. Deveny, A.W. -- Plymouth. January 19 -- On Saturday afternoon this community was started by the report that A.W. Deveny had dropped dead, and inquiry proved that the report was true. While going to his home he was taken ill and died in a few moments. He was fifty-nine years old, and one of our most respected citizens. -- [Bellville Star: 22 January 1885, Vol. 8, No. 17]

Deveny, John Sr. -- DIED -- In this village, on the 26th. inst. of dropsy, Mr. John Deveny, Sr., aged 57 years. The deceased had been afflicted for a long time with the disease which finally terminated his life. On the morning of his death, he felt so unusually well that he went to his shop and continued there until 10 o'clock, when he was taken suddenly ill, and by noon was a corpse. Dever, Elizabeth Donovan -- Funeral High Mass will be said at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 9:30 a. m. Monday for Mrs. Elizabeth Donovan Dever, 62, former Mansfield resident who died Friday in Indianapolis following several months’ illness. Burial will be in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Devine, Louis G. -- Louis G. Devine, 32, indicted by the last Richland County grand jury on a charge of first degree murder for the killing of James Lewis, committed suicide early Monday morning at the county jail by cutting his throat and inflicting several scalp wounds with a knife. Devoe, Robert -- Shiloh, Dec. 15 -- Robert Devoe, a young man living three miles north of this city, while cutting wood at his home, accidentally shot and killed himself with a shot-gun Tuesday afternoon. The gun was laying across a log, and in drawing the gun over the lot it was discharged, the charge taking effect in his face, and entering the brain, death occurring instantly. The affair was made doubly sad by the fact that he was to have been married on Christmas, just two weeks from the day of his death, to Miss Levina Mittenbuhler, of near Plymouth. Robert Devoe was born Jan. 27, 1885, and died at the age of 21 years, 10 months and 11 days. DeWalt, T.S. -- T.S. DeWalt, one of the victims of the bridge accident Monday, died this morning about 7 o'clock at the home of Mr. Henderson, of Blackfork Street, in Shelby, from the effects of his injuries. He was a farmer and lived at Liberty Corners. Both of his legs were crushed making it necessary for an amputation to be performed. He was operated on last Tuesday, but has been in a precarious condition and gradually sunk. The funeral will take place tomorrow and the body will be taken from Mr. Henderson's home at 8 o'clock. DeWitt, Eleanor L. -- Eleanor L. DeWitt, 56, of 31 Glessner Ave., wife of Richard B. DeWitt, died this morning in Mansfield General Hospital following an extended illness. She was born July 21, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and lived here most of her life. Mrs. DeWitt attended the Christ Gospel Church. Surviving, besides her husband, are one daughter, Frances Butts of Mansfield; one son, Richard B. Jr. at home; three grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Mae Kent of Mansfield. Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors by her pastor, the Rev. Earl Lowery. Burial will be in the Bethesda Chapel Cemetery, McKay. Dice, Johnny -- Bellville. Johnny, the 12 years old son of Samuel Dice, met with a frightful death near this place on Wednesday morning. He had taken his sister to the home of John F. Shafer to spend the day and was returning alone with the horse and buggy. In some way he was thrown out and one foot caught in such a way that he was held in contact with the wheel. The horse ran home about two miles, dragging the unfortunate boy all that distance. He was found in a dying condition when extricated from the gearing of the buggy. A doctor was summoned but life was extinct before he arrived. Mr. and Mrs. Dice have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in this their hour of deepest sorrow. Dice, William -- Tuesday -- Funeral services of William Dice were held at his late residence Monday at 2 p.m., Dr. H.L. Wiles officiating. Later in the same paper ... Coroner Baughman held a post mortem examination Monday of the body of William Dice, who dropped dead Saturday. He found that cerebral apoplexy was the cause of death and that was induced by a rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. Mr. Dice sneezed and this caused the blood vessel, which was diseased, to burst. Still later in the same paper ... William Dice dropped dead Saturday morning at his home at 604 South Diamond Street. Dice was sitting quietly in the kitchen at his home reading, while his wife was preparing breakfast. Suddenly and without warning the dread summons came and Dice dropped on the floor at his wife's feet -- dead. It is supposed that heart disease was the cause of his death. He was a very large man of superb physique and wonderful strength. He weighed about 250 pounds and was a model of manly strength and vigor. He was a plasterer by occupation. Dice was in good health when he retired Friday night and did not complain of being ill this morning. He worked Friday and expected to work today. He leaves a wife and two children and was about 55 years of age. He has a brother in Marion and arrangements for the funeral will not be made until the brother arrives. Dick, Jessie -- Jessie Dick, a well known farmer who resides at Bunker Hill three miles east of Shelby, died very suddenly Saturday night. Mr. Dick drove to Shelby in a two-horse wagon and did some shopping. He got in his wagon and drove out of Shelby to his home. When the horses neared his home, Mr. Dick was found dead in his wagon. Dickerson, Aggie -- Miss Aggie Dickerson died December 1st., 1873, aged 19 years, 10 months and 10 days. Aggie was an acceptable member of the Lutheran Church. She was admitted to membership by Rev. J.F. Shearer in the winter of 1869. She was for several years the organist of the church and Sabbath school. Always prompt and competent. An humble and true follower of Jesus. Few there are in this community who would be missed as much as is our departed sister in Jesus. The funeral sermon was preached by her former Pastor, Rev. J.F. Dickerson, Edna Susan -- Succumbs In Bellville. Mrs. Edna Susan Dickerson, wife of Thomas H Dickerson of Bellville, died at her home there Sunday night following an extended illness. Mrs. Dickerson was born June 25, 1888 in Ankneytown, in Knox County but had spent the greater part of her life in this community. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran church at Bellville and the Eastern Star No. 291 at Bellville. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Thomas W and Herbert T Dickerson of Bellville; one daughter, Mrs. Harry Dillon of Mansfield, five grandchildren, two brothers, James Wheeler of Mansfield of Ontario and Cyrus Wheeler of Mansfield, and one sister, Mrs. Floyd Gable of Mansfield. The body will remain at the Wappner funeral home here until Tuesday noon when it will be taken to Snyder funeral home in Bellville where services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday by Rev. Luther Buchholtz, pastor of the Bellville church. Members of the Eastern Star Lodge will have a part in the service. Burial will be in the Bellville cemetery. Submitted by Joanna. Dickes, Blake Berry -- Butler. Blake Berry, the 14-year-old son of Mrs. Lewis Dickes, died Friday at Mansfield after an illness with typhoid fever contracted while in Arkansas. Blake will be remembered by Butler people as being an exceptionally bright lad and the mother has the sympathy of a large circle of friends in her sad bereavement. Dickson, Elijah -- Elijah Dickson, aged 58 years, brother of ex-Sheriff Dickson, residing two miles north of West Windsor, died on Wednesday evening last at 5 o'clock, from injuries received in falling from his buggy the Saturday previous, while driving from Mansfield to his home. He remained unconscious up to the time of his death. A post mortem examination was held, but no injuries except the bursting of the lining membrane of the skull, were found on his person. Dickson, Gilbert G. -- Gilbert G. Dickson, son of ex-Sheriff Dickson, died suddenly at Abilene, Kansas, Saturday, November 1. "Gib", was well known by many residents of this city and county, and was universally liked. He was for some time the obliging deputy of Sheriff Ritchie, and it was his intention to again resume that position in a few weeks. A congestive chill was the cause of his sudden death. Dickson, Henry -- Lexington. Henry Dickson died Tuesday morning at his home, two miles northeast of here. He was aged 77 years and had lived in Troy Township over 50 years. He was a most respected man and was a member of Wyanooska Lodge, I.O.O.F. of Lexington. His wife dying in January, 1891, he was again married in January, 1894, to Mrs. Lucinda Schenk, of Morrow County, who survives him as do also four sons and two daughters. Dickson, James -- Daily Shield, May 31. Persons who were about the city at 2:30 yesterday morning were startled by the report that James Dickson had met a sudden and violent death. Jas. Dickson has been a familiar figure about Mansfield for many years and was known to nearly every citizen within the corporate limits, as well as throughout Richland County. For several days the old gentleman had been drinking more or less. On Monday he was moving about as usual and none of his friends dreamed that his last hour was so near. When on a spree Dickson was wont to become in such condition that he was not responsible for himself and would wander off to some distant part of the city. Shortly after 2 o'clock Tuesday morning Dickson was walking along the Pennsylvania railroad track opposite the Oliver Chilled Plow Works. He was discovered by the engineer of the third section of west bound "Royal Red" train, and, although the whistle was pulled repeatedly, Dickson was either unable to hear or did not realize his position. The engine struck the unfortunate man on the side, breaking three ribs and killing him instantly. The remains were picked up and conveyed to the union depot, where they were placed upon a stretcher and subsequently viewed by Coroner Maglott. An examination of the effects of the dead man showed that he carried $80.10 in cash upon his person, together with several notes. A report circulated about the city last night to the effect that Mr. Dickson had $600 in cash in his pockets could not be verified. As soon as possible the remains were removed by Undertaker J.A. Niman to the family residence on West Third Street, where they were prepared for burial. Mr. Dickson leaves a wife and eight children. The deceased was born in New York state and was 69 years of age. He removed to this county about 43 years ago and has resided here ever since, with the exception of a short time spent in California during the gold excitement. He was one of the largest land-owners in the county and his estate, it is thought, will reach a hundred thousand dollars. At one time Mr. Dickson was engaged in the banking business in the block at the southwest corner of Main and Third Streets, of which he is the owner. Dickson, V.M. -- V. M. Dickson has returned from Peoria. Ill., where on Monday he attended the funeral of his brother William D. Dickson, who died in that city Jan. 21. The deceased was born at Millsboro, west of Mansfield, Aug. 16, 1848. He went to Peoria forty-two years ago where he has since resided. He became associated with the Culter & Sandmeyer company in which ten years later he acquired a one-forth interest, the firm dissolving five years ago when the W. D. Dickson plumbing, Heating and roofing company was organized with Mr. Dickson as president. He was the inventor of an indirect heating system which is largely in use. He was largely identified with other business enterprises in Peoria and was one of the largest property owners in the city, leaving an estate of about $300,000. He is survived by his wife, one son Victor, of Chicago, two daughters, Hazel and Nina, two sisters residing in Peoria, and one brother, V. M. Dickson, of this city. Submitted by Faye and Jean. Diehl, Mrs. Peter -- Mrs. Peter Diehl, a widow, died Sunday night at her home seven miles southeast of the city. She was about 80 years of age and leaves one son, Albert Diehl, and a daughter, Mrs. Hoover, of near Bellville. She also had one sister, Mrs. Touby, who resides south of this city. Diehl, Ralph L. -- Ralph L. Diehl, 55, formerly of 1106 Fairfax Ave., former employee of the Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co., died Tuesday afternoon in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Chillicothe following an extended illness. Mr. Diehl was born in Hancock County, Sept. 21, 1923 and lived in Mansfield as a youth. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Tonia V. Tabor of 1122 Fairfax Dr.: three sisters, Mrs. Bernita Mace of Barberton, Mrs. Esther Davis of Akron and Mrs. Daisy Swisher of Lakeview, and five grandchildren. Dill, Philip -- PIONEER FARMER DIES OF DECLINE -- Philip Dill Passes Away at His Home Near Bellville -- After a general decline in health for several months Philip Dill aged nearly 77 years, pioneer resident of Washington township for many years, died last evening at 11 o'clock at his country house west of Bellville. Mr. Dill was one of the best known farmers in southern Richland county who was interested in the civic life of the two different communities in which he resided during his long eventful life. Born in Seltern, Germany, Dec. 19, 1849 he came to this country when a mere lad but later returned to his native country remaining until 1866 when he returned to the country of his adoption with his parents who located in Washington township. In late years he has resided in Jefferson township west of Bellville. Besides his wife he is survived by seven children: Fred W., Mrs. Helen sites, Mrs. Guy Moore, and John L. Dill all of Jefferson township. Mrs. Margaret Lawrence and Albert Dill of Lexington and Mrs. Karl Maul of this city. Also eleven grand children, one sister Mrs. C. G. Rummel of West Cairo and two brothers, Peter J. Dill of Pleasant Hill, Mo., and J. F. Dill of Washington township. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at St. Peter's Evangelical church, Washington township with his pastor in charge, leaving the family home at 2 o'clock. Dillon, Caroline (Taylor) -- Mrs. Caroline Dillon, wife of Peter Dillon, a well-known farmer of Springfield township, near Walker's Lake, dropped dead Wednesday evening while at the barn doing the evening milking. Mrs. Dillon was a very fleshy woman, but had been in apparent good health. The cause of her death was apoplexy. When she was found she was past earthly help. Mrs. Dillon's maiden name was Caroline Taylor, and she was born near Lucas almost sixty years ago. She leaves a husband, three daughters: Mrs. Mary Mitchell, who lives near Ontario, another daughter, Ada, married and lives near Lucas, and Miss Ella Dillon lives at home; and one son, William Dillon, who lives near the home place. Mrs. Dillon was a member of the M.E. church at Ontario. Mrs. Dillon has four brothers, George Taylor, of Washington Township, Charles Taylor, of Toledo, John and Joseph TAylor, of Springfield Township, and one sister, Mrs. C.J. Smith, of Plymouth. Dillon, Caroline (Taylor) -- Coroner Bushnell, accompanied by Constable Winters, drove to the house of Peter Dillon, in Springfield Township, Thursday afternoon, to hold an inquest over the body of Mrs. Dillon, of whose sudden death while out at the barn milking Wednesday night, an account has already been given in the News. Dillon, John -- John Dillon, one of the best known residents of the county, died this morning between 5 and 6 o'clock at his home No. 587 S. Diamond Street. he was stricken with paralysis the latter part of last week and did not really. The deceased was 62 years of age and was born in Chambersburg, Pa., Nov. 7, 1846. He had lived in this county since his early boyhood and was engaged in farmer south of the city. Mr. Dillon was a man respected by all who knew him. His friends were legion in the county. He was an active Democrat and was honored by his party by being elected two terms as township trustee which office he filled in an efficient manner. Mr. Dillon leaves besides his wife, three sons, Robert, William and Riley Dillon, and one daughter, Mrs. D.W. Boon, who resides at home. The deceased also leaves three brothers, William, Hugh and Samuel Dillon, and three sisters, Mrs. John Leach, Mrs. Jane Heselton and Mrs. E.H. Jones, all of whom reside near Mansfield. Mr. Dillon was a veteran of the Civil War having served in the 163rd. O.V.I. The funeral of Mr. Dillon will be held Monday at 8:30 at St. Peter's Catholic church. He was united in marriage to Miss Essie Harris and was well known in this community. Besides his wife in Lucas, he is survived by his mother, two sisters and one brother all of Canton. Dinges, Francis M. -- Mansfield. France M. "Curly" Dinges, 76 of 1407 N. Rock Road died Friday at his home after a long illness. He was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Columbiana to Edward and Edna Hawkins Dinges and lived in the Mansfield area most of his life. Mr. Dinges was retired from Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. and was a member of the Mansfield Tire 25 years Club and the Ontario United Methodist Church. He is survived by two sons, Marvin Allen Dinges of Phoenix, Ariz. and Gary D. Dinges of Ashland, three grandchildren, Rodney, Christopher and Brian Dinges, and a sister and brother-in law Gwenevia and Paul Kotterman of Perrysville. Born Feb. 2, 1889 in Mansfield, he lived here all his life. He was a retired maintenance employee of the Ingersoll-Humphryes and a charter member of the First Alliance Church. Dise, ---- -- Lexington. The tragic death of the 5-year-old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Dise, Friday afternoon, caused the most somber gloom to pervade many hearts. It was killed by the accidental discharge of a shot gun in the hands of her young brother, Foster, and in all inexplicable way. Mr. Dise lives one-half mile northwest of here and the affair occurred in the barn. Foster had been hunting and had set the gun down in the barn and his father ordered him to take it to the house. Foster picked up the gun and almost immediately there was a terrific report and the contents of the gun tore a huge, gaping hole in the breast of the child, which had been prattling in childish glee. Lie was extinct in a minute or two and Mr. Dise and others who were present were thrilled with horror by the ghastly scene. Mr. and Mrs. Dise are well known and most respected people and the hearts of their many friends beat responsive to the bitter anguish that fills their hearts over the tragic fate of their child. Dise, Homer Jacob -- Homer Jacob Dise, 68, a retired Richland county farmer, died this morning at General Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Dise was born Jan. 20, 1880 near Bellville. He had lived his entire life in Richland county, moving five years ago from his farm east of town to Mansfield. He was a member of the St. Matthew’s Lutheran church, the church council and also belonged to the Richland county farm bureau. He is survived by his wife, Mary B. Au Dise, at the home, 271 West Fourth street; three daughters, Mrs. Rudy Rader of Shiloh, Mrs. Charles Nussbaum and Miss Elizabeth Dise; one son, Richard H., all of Mansfield; a brother, Foster Dise of Akron, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the St. Matthew’s Lutheran church Wednesday at 3 p.m. in charge of the pastor, Rev. Charles F. Sheriff. Burial will be in the Mansfield cemetery. Diskosky, Henry F. -- HENRY F. DISKOSKY - Henry F. Diskosky, 64, of 23 Harker St., died Monday afternoon at Mansfield General Hospital after an extended illness. He was born March 1, 1893, in Mansfield and spent his entire life here. Mr. Diskosky was a retired city water works employee, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Igler Diskosky; three daughters, Mrs. William Cory, of 104 South Glenn Ave., Mrs. Leo Pitt, of Cleveland and Miss Shirley Mae, at home; one brother, Fred Diskosky; two sisters, Mrs. John C. Larcey, of Mansfield, and eight grandchildren. His twin brother, Herman, died Oct. 29. Diskosky, died Friday evening at Peoples Hospital following a five-day illness. Born March 4, 1889, in Mansfield, she had lived here her entire life. She was a member of the First Alliance Church. Surviving are one son, Lester Diskosky, of Galion; three sisters, Mrs. Mayme Wentz, 564 Lexington Ave., Mrs. Elsie Davis, 422 St. Clair Ave.; and Mrs. Raleigh McGregor, Elyria. Ditwiler, John -- Thursday evening about 6:00, John Ditwiler died at his residence, No. 31, North West 3rd. Street. The direct cause of his death was some growth in the stomach, probably cancer. Deceased was born September 11th., 1825, and was consequently, almost 65 years of age. He was born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, and removed to Bellville with his mother when about six years old. In 1866 he came to Mansfield and in 1873 went into the manufacturing of suspenders. Ditwiler, John -- Monday. The funeral of John Ditwiler from his residence on West Third Street yesterday afternoon was largely attended. Mansfield Lodge, No. 19, I.O.O.F., of which deceased was a member, had charge of the remains, one hundred members of the order being in attendance. She, with several other ladies, was paying a visit to the family of Joseph Walters, living near the Infirmary, and while gathering nuts in a neighboring woods, without premonition, she was stricken down and died in a short time. Divelbiss, Sarah -- Butler. Coroner Bushnell held an inquest Thursday over the body of Mrs. Sarah Divelbiss, mother of Freeman and Frank Divelbiss, who was found lying dead at the side of her bed early that morning. It appears that one of the neighbors had thought that possibly Mrs. Divelbiss had committed suicide, but it was found that evidently in falling she had caught her hair on a button of the bedstead, that giving the appearance as if she were hanging. It seems that about midnight Mrs. Divelbiss called to her granddaughter for a glass of water, which was brought. Some time after this a noise was heard in the grandmother's room as if the old lady were getting up. In the morning the body was found. The coroner's finding was to the effect that Mrs. Divelbiss came to her death from apoplexy or organic disease. [Butler Enterprise: 31 August 1900, Vol. XII, No. 36]
