William E. Sawin, Jr., died at 9:30 o'clock last night at his residence, 478 Park Avenue West, after an illness of two weeks.  Mr. Sawin has always been of delicate health but his last illness was an attack of nervous dyspepsia from which it was believed he was recovering.  Last evening he seemed much better, when he suddenly complained of a pain in his head.  In a few moments life was extinct, death being caused by embolism.

Mr. Sawin was one of the highly respected citizens of Mansfield and was prominent in the social circles of the city.  He was born in New York City, Dec. 26, 1846.  He graduated in New York as a pharmacist and engaged in the drug trade until he came to Mansfield, seventeen years ago, when he became a member of the firm of Tracy, Avery & Co., now the Tracy-Avery Company, of which Mr. Sawin was vice-president and manager.

In 1869, Mr. Sawin wedded Miss Lillie Fancher of New York, who survives him.

The father, Wm. E. Sawin, and a brother, Frank E.R. Sawin, and the only sister, Miss A. Kate Sawin, of New York, were called here by the serious illness of Mr. Sawin.  Another brother, L.H. Sawin, of New York, was unable to be here during the last illness of the deceased.

Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Paine of Cleveland, relatives of Mrs. Sawin, arrived today.

The funeral services will be held at the residence Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Hubbell.  The interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery and will be private.
