Charles Shafer of Troy Township died at his home at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, aged 68 years.  He was afflicted with Bright's Disease, which caused his death.

Mr. Shafer was a native of Bavaria, but for a number of years resided in Troy Twp.  Mr. Shafer was a good natured, whole-souled man whose home was always open to friends and many there are who have enjoyed his hospitality.  Many a sleighing party went from his city to Mr. Shafer's home where the latch-string was always found on the outside of the door.

He was a man of cool judgment and unflinching courage which was demonstrated when robbers assaulted him in Chicago while he was attending the World's Fair.  Mr. Shafer drew his revolver and shot his assailant who subsequently died.

Michael Shafer of Troy Township was a brother and Mrs. Martin Troll of this city who was a sister of the deceased.

The funeral services will be held at the residence Tuesday.  Interment at Lexington.
