Jacob Leiter

Wednesday -- Jacob Leiter, who died at his home near Lucas, Monday, at 6 p.m., was buried today at 10 a.m.  The services were held at Lucas and were conducted by Rev. W.H. Dolbeer, Lutheran minister, and were under the auspices of Monroe Lodge, I.O.O.F.

Jacob Leiter died at his home, near Lucas, Monday, Nov. 30, at 6 o'clock p.m.

The deceased was born at Leitersburg, Washington County, Md., June 2, 1824.  He removed with his parents direct to this county in his early boyhood.

He was the only child of David and Nancy (Bell) Leiter.  The father surviving the mother he married Mary Bell, a cousin of the deceased wife and by this second union there was a large family of children, of whom surviving are:  David B., John H., Samuel B., and William Leiter, all residing near Lucas.

In 1847 the deceased was united in marriage with Susan Ross, who survives him.  Nine children were born of this marriage, seven of whom are still living:  Mrs. Clara Cool residing at Springfield, O.,;  Mrs. W.H. Pritchard, Mrs. Dick, Rist and Natcher R., all residing at Tacoma, Washington;  David S. Leiter residing at Lucas and Elmer E., residing at Toledo;  and Mrs. N.M. Wolfe, of this city.  Also a daughter Mary, now deceased, wife of Dr. T.C. Rummell, who, at her death, resided at Tacoma.

Jacob Leiter had been a consistent member of the Lutheran church nearly all his life, but of late years he changed his membership to the Congregational church at Lucas.  He was at his death a member of Monroe Lodge, I.O.O.F., and also of Mohican encampment.  He died where he had lived for more than 40 years, on his farm and at his home in Monroe Twp., loved and respected by all who knew him, attaining the ripe age of 72 years, 5 months and 26 days.  Funeral services at Lucas at 10 o'clock, Wednesday, Dec. 2, conducted by Rev. W.H. Dolbeer, the Lutheran minister, and by Monroe lodge, I.O.O.F.
