Harmon Newlon, son of ex-Mayor Josiah Newlon, was found lying in a vacant lot near the 10th. Ward School building at 5 o'clock a.m. Wednesday a bullet hole in his head.  He was found by William Kochheiser, who resides at 218 Lexington Avenue.

Newlon was taken to his home, 42 Blanche Street, and Dr. Craig was summoned.  Newlon was conscious when found although in a very weak condition.  Dr. Craig probed for a bullet but was unable to locate it.  The bullet entered the head just back of the right eye and is lodged somewhere in the front part of the head.

Newlon related the story of the occurrence to Dr. Craig and said the shooting was purely accidental.  He said Tuesday afternoon about 4 o'clock he concluded to walk out to the home of a relative who resides just outside the city.  He was going through a vacant lot in the vicinity of the 10th. Ward School building, when he saw a squirrel.  He stepped quickly to a tree and pulled his revolver with the intention of shooting the squirrel.  In some unexplained manner the bullet intended for the squirrel found lodgment in his own head.  He lay where he fell from 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon until 5 o'clock Wednesday morning.  The physician probed for the bullet but could not locate it.  There were no powder marks on Newlon's head to show that the bullet had been fired from close range.  Newlon is a married man and a painter by trade.

Newlon is still living, is resting easily and will, in all probability recover.
