MIFFLIN TWP. -- John Landis, an old and respected citizen, died at the home of his son, Reuben Landis, last Wednesday morning, aged 80 years. 

Later in the same paper -- 

MIFFLIN, May 2 -- About three weeks ago, John Landis, a pioneer of this region, was taken suddenly ill with la grippe and being 80 years old he could not long withstand the ravages of the disease.  Mr. Landis lost his vision several years ago.  He was a member of the Brethren Church and died Apr. 27, and was buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Apr. 30.  The services were conducted by Rev. W.L. Dessenberg, assisted by the Rev. Samuel Whisler of the River Brethren church.
