John Au died very suddenly at his home on Park Avenue west about 3 o'clock this morning.  Mr. Au had not been feeling very well during the past month, but was feeling fairly well yesterday and retired without making any complaints in regard to his condition last night.  He arose about 2:30 and closed his chamber window.  He died in a short time afterwards and his demise is attributed to heart failure.

The deceased was 67 years of age and leaves a wife, Mrs. Eunice Au, and a daughter, Miss Florence Au, who is a teacher in the public schools.

Mr. Au was well to do, having accumulated a snug sum during the gold excitement in 1848 in California.  He returned to this city in 1853 and worked at the carpenter trade with his brother, Samuel Au.  Shortly after his return he married Mrs. Eunice Ellsworth.  He leaves four brothers, Samuel, Henry, Jacob and Christopher, and two sisters, Mrs. J.R. Lutz and Mrs. William Bloor.

Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by Rev. J.W. Hubbell.  Interment in the local cemetery.
