DIED, At the residence of her
son-in-law, Mr. Richard Keith, near Shelby, in the eighty-first year of
her age, Mrs. Catherine Wertz May. Mother May was born in Bedford
Co., Pa. She, with her husband, moved to this State in the year
1828. She bore to her husband eight children: five boys and
three girls. One of the girls died when six months old; the
other children are living here, with the exception of Mrs. Shutt, who
resides in Williams Co., Ohio. The deceased lived a widow nearly
nineteen years. She was a member of the Ev. Lutheran Church at
Shelby. She was a good mother, a kind neighbor, and a warm
sympathizing friend. She was a woman of strong, though simple,
faith in her Redeemer. Her funeral took place on Wednesday,
November 11th., 1875. It was well attended by relatives and
friends. The services were held in the London Church; sermon
by her pastor Rev. D.I. Foust, from Rev. 7th. chapter, 9th. verse --
last part. This was the same text from which a sermon was preached
at her husband's funeral nearly nineteen years ago. Her body was
laid to rest in the London Cemetery with appropriate ceremonies.
Thus has passed away another one of our aged pioneers. They will
soon all be gone.
MARRIED, At the Beverstock House, November 10th., by Rev. D.I. Foust, Mr. A.K. Dickerson, and Miss Addie Rex, both of Shiloh, Ohio. z
