18 September 1886, Vol. LXIX, No. 18

The following persons have taken out marriage licenses since our last report:  Richard Dove & Effie Darling;  Daniel H. Snavely & Ella R. Miller;  Curtis Zeigler & Eva F. Miller;  C.C. Slocum & Mary B. Lutz;  Will H. Myers & Della Laser;  J.H. Todd & Katharine Bishop;  Harvey Funk & Irena Weber.

John H. Todd, of the Richland Insurance Co., and Miss Katharine Bishop, recently of New York state, were married Thursday afternoon at the residence of Hon. H.C. Hedges, on W. Market Street.  The couple are well and favorably known here.  They go east to Boston and New York on a tour.

The ancient Farrington divorce case has assumed a new and more startling form.  It will be remembered that Abraham Farrington and his wife reside, or rather did reside, together at Shelby.  The wife some time ago obtained a judgment for alimony against Abraham, but he refuses to pay.  The new feature of the case is that last week Farrington with his attorney appeared before Probate Judge Mack and made application for an inquest of lunacy to be held, alleging that his wife was insane.  The case was set for hearing Friday, but owing to a lack of witnesses was continued until Friday, Sept. 24th.

Wm. B. Shaw, of East 2nd. Street, has applied to the Probate Court to have his son William adjudged insane.

The following persons were given certificates at the teachers' examination Sept. 4th.:  Jacob Vickroy, Levering;  Oliver F. Beveridge, Newville;  J.J. Dill, Cecil, Paulding Co., O.;  A.S. Beach, Bellville;  Rose E. Work, Ontario;  W.H. Earhart, Lexington;  Corwin Marshman, Corsica.  There were five failures, out of twelve applicants.

Mrs. Lizzie A. Simpson, daughter of Mr. Johnston McKee, died last Friday at the residence of her parents, two miles west of Mansfield.  The funeral took place Sunday afternoon.

Last Saturday, through his attorney H.E. Bell, Jerry Bird filed a petition in Common Pleas Court for divorce from his wife Annie Bird, charging her with adultery.  The couple were married in April, 1881.  The woman whom he charges with adultery is well known here.

Emma Darling, the unsophisticated country girl who figured over a year ago in a rather unsavory scandal, and which was settled for the time being by her marrying Winfield Darling, the cause of her trouble, but who soon deserted her, filed a petition in Common Pleas Court, last Saturday for divorce and restoration to her maiden name, Emma Algire.  She charges adultery as the cause of her prayer.  Young Darling is in Indiana now and Mrs. Darling lives in Worthington Tp.  Connolly & Laser are plaintiff's attorneys.

DIVORCE NOTICE:  Amelia Dupoy, Plaintiff, vs. Hugh Depoy, Defendant }  In the Court of Common Pleas, Richland County, Ohio.  Hugh Depoy, whose place of residence is unknown, is notified that Amelia Dupoy did on the 14th. day of August, 1886, file her petition in the office of the Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas in and for Richland County, Ohio, charging the said Hugh Dupoy, with three years willful absence, and asking that she may be restored to her maiden name, allowed reasonable alimony, and that she may be divorced from the said Hugh Dupoy;  which petition will be for hearing at the next term of said Court.  -- Amelia Dupoy by R.B. McCrory, her Attorney, 21 August 1886.
