BELLVILLE

Mrs. Emma Knepper is visiting with friends at Cleveland, O.

Mrs. Frank A. Everts is visiting her brother, H.W. Gurney at Mansfield this week.

Levi Hissong and Walter Cox were down from Mansfield Sunday visiting friends in this place.

Misses Verde McKinney and Ettie Wills of this place visited at the former's parents near Mt. Carmel last Sunday and they report a pleasant time.

Miss Mary Olin, who has been located at St. Joe, Mo., for two years past, returned home last Sunday evening.  She is a daughter of Mr. Job Olin, residing west of town.

Lawyer Beach and wife of Mansfield visited over Sunday with J. Maglott and family.

Mrs. C.N. Ink and children are absent at present on a week's visit with her sister at Cincinnati, O.

Mr. Reuben Lantz, whose illness was mentioned in last week's paper, we are pleased to report better at this writing.

Rev. and Mrs. Canfield received graduation program from Miss Ethlya Stevens of Rapid City, South Dakota, who graduated from the State Normal School at Spearfish, South Dakota.

Last Sunday, Dr. S.P. Dyre, successfully removed a tape-worm measuring one hundred and twenty feet in length from Charles Modk, of this place.  The operation was performed in six hours.  Mr. Mock has been in the best of spirits enjoying excellent health right along since the operation.  This is the fifty-ninth operation the doctor has performed with his new treatment.

Mr. Pansy Hess, of Mansfield, spent last Sunday in Bellville, guest of Mr. Frank Walters and family.

Miss Minnie Simons visited over Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Clancy Huntsman near Darlington.  

MEMORIAL -- For the first time in many years the Angel of Death has claimed a member of the infant class of our Sabbath School.  The mercy of our heavenly Father in thus sparing the children calls out our sincere gratitude.  It is with deep sorrow that we record the death of Hazel Hannah Kenton, which took place on Tuesday, June 11th., 1895, at the age of 5 years, 6 months and 1 day.  <<scripture omitted>>

Mrs. Gersham Parker is quite sick.

Mr. C. Hissong spent Saturday in Butler.

Misses Bertha and Burnice Aungst drove to Mansfield Tuesday.

Floyd Fasig, of Ashland, visited J.C. Nelson and family, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mrs. A.M. Fairchild attended a missionary convention at Mt. Vernon, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mrs. W.W. Coleman and sister, Mrs. Wm. Wilson, of Lexington, started Tuesday to visit friends in Pike County.

J.M. Garber, of O.S.U., Columbus, returned home last week to spend summer vacation.  J.M. is looking well and will finish a course in civil engineering in a few years.

Will Fisher and Lynn Lefevre wheeled to Loudonville Sunday.

Mr. W.H. Disney of Nebraska, is visiting his wife and children at W.B. Coursen's.

Mr. Olin Farber, of Mansfield, spent Sunday last with his parents and friends at this place.

Miss Mollie Patman, of Mansfield, visited over Sunday last with her friends and relatives at this place.

Mrs. Willard Lanehart has returned to her home at Chicago, Ill., after a pleasant visit with friends and relatives in this vicinity.

Miss Katie Cover, of Johnsville, O., is visiting with friends and relatives in Bellville at present, guest of her sister, Mrs. Dr. Stofer.

Mr. J.C. Potts is now working as regularly as possible upon the village exchange telephone system and expects to have a part of the lines in operation yet this summer.  To encourage the matter you might drop in and subscribe for the service.  You will find the price asked very low and the benefits to be derived from such a service are certainly apparent to all.

Mrs. Mary Jane Rush came down from Mansfield to visit with friends Friday and Saturday.

Mrs. W.H. Weagley went to Mansfield Friday to visit her daughter, Mrs. Marion Douglass.

Mr. Alfred Lash of Mansfield, car inspector for the B.&O. Ry. Co., was in Bellville last Sunday.

John G. Phiel and Miss Emma Knox returned from Berea on Friday to spend the summer vacation at home.  Both have been attending the college for several years and speak very highly of the institution.

Mr. S.B. Day, of Mansfield, accompanied by his son, Lieutenant W.B. Day, of the U.S. Navy, and Mr. S.C. Clark, one of the Republican candidates for county recorder, was in Bellville one day last week shaking hands with the host of old friends he is ever sure to meet here.  We were pleased to form the acquaintance of these gentlemen through the kindness of our townsman, Capt. D.W. Wilson, and learned that Lieutenant Day is now spending a vacation with his father in Mansfield.  He has been absent for a period of three years on a voyage to China, during which time he has been in the service of the U.S. Navy.  Old friends here as well as at Mansfield were glad to meet him again.  Mr. Clark is a young man, quite well known over the county, and his name will come before the Republican county convention to be held at Mansfield next Friday as a candidate for the office of recorder.

HASTINGS

Mrs. Dr. Maglott and children, of Mansfield, are spending this week in this vicinity.

Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Beach are visiting friends in this vicinity this week.

Dr. Ridenour was in this vicinity Sunday.

Miss Anna Harter spent Sunday with Miss Edith Rush.

Nellie Stafford is spending this week with her grandparents, E. Harter.

All those who attended the ice cream supper at Dave Banker's last Thursday night, report a good time.

ALTA

Miss Winnie Scott is improving with the mumps.

Miss Edith Sunnuck was the guest of Miss Mary Patterson on Wednesday at District No. 9.

Ikey Coe will return to his home in Centralia, Illinois on Monday.

Miss Minnie Dickson was visiting at Lexington, O.

WALNUT HILL

Susan Buhecker died in our vicinity on the 13th., after a short illness of general debility;  aged 65 years, and was interred at the Ankenytown Cemetery on the 14th. inst.  She was a good woman and was loved and respected by all who knew her.

Edward Neer is treating his house to a coat of paint which adds greatly to its appearance.

E.L. Swank, G.W. Divelbiss, F.C. Shafer and H.E. Gibson are delegates to the Richland County Republican convention at Mansfield on the 21st.

A.G. Hanson has erected a summer house near his residence.

L.K. Leedy enjoyed the pleasure of quite a number of old time singers on the 8th. at his old homestead now belonging to J.F. Lanehart.

Harvey Bemiller and Miss Louie Schroeder were married by Rev. Cliffe on the 9th. inst.  We extend to them our best wishes for their future prosperity. 

TIMOTHY RIDGE

Miss Myrta Stewart's school closes next Friday at Oak Hall with a grand dinner and recitations in the afternoon it being her second term in her home district.

Mrs. J.D. Snider and family visited with her son Lew over Sunday.

Marshal Neer and wife made a flying trip to Mansfield next Thursday.

Mr. John Dill's school closes next Friday at Newville.

George Swihart's family are having a tussle with the measles.

Mr. Philip and Will Teeter killed a black snake last week on Wm. Casteter's farm, which measured nearly six feet.

Dan Hildebrand wove the grandest picket fence for Fremont Secrist that we have ever seen.

Mrs. Joseph Snavely is on the sick list.

Mr. Ed. Secrist and family, Mrs. Jennie Secrist, Messrs. Ed. Tinkey, Francis Smith, George and Rolly Teeter and J.W. Teeter and family took dinner with Peter Teeter and family last Sunday, Mrs. Teeter and daughters remaining to visit a couple of weeks with relatives and friends.

PLEASANT VALLEY

The friends of Widow Maria Stout were sorry to hear of her death last week.  She was a member of the Valley church.

Andrew Charles and wife, Wm. Mitchell and wife, and others attended a birthday surprise party at David Bank's in Washington Twp. on the 13th.  There was an ice cream supper for the young folk in the evening.  A load of Valley folks attended.

Mr. James Kelly and wife visited friends in the Valley on Friday.

Miss Minnie Bodine is giving music lessons to a number of Valley girls.

Mrs. Emma Hersh visited here sister, Mrs. Effie Taylor, at Spring Mills, last week Miss Lou Hersh is teaching.

Miss Effie Wiles is teaching the Valley Hall School.

James V. Thompson has sold quite a quantity of timber to be made into ties.

DARLINGTON

Catharine Kensinger is quite poorly at this writing.

Samuel Crossman, of Bradner, Ohio, is visiting friends in this vicinity.

Miss Edna Kensinger, of Cleveland, is at home this week with her parents.

Fred Long, who is working for William Gregg in Green Valley this summer, was at home last week on account of being unable to work.

W.E. Black, of Bellville, spent Sunday with friends in this vicinity.  

Miss Luzella Moore's school closes next Friday.  She has taught a good school and is well spoken of by all of her scholars.

W.R. McDaniel was at Mansfield Saturday on business.

J.W. Tidd attended the lawn fete at Waterford last Saturday evening.

BUTLER

Mr. and Mrs. D. Spayde, Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Oberlin and Mr. and Mrs. I. Shaffer enjoyed a trip on the excursion to Sandusky last Wednesday.

C.M. Wise and wife attended the Prohibition Convention at Springfield last week.

Geo. Swihart is numbered among the sick.

Mr. McLaughlin and son James, were at Mansfield on business Friday.

F.P. Myers of Huntington, Ind., is visiting relatives here this week.

Dr. Keith of Bellville was in this vicinity last Wednesday.

Misses Maud Swearingen and Ada Long of Mansfield visited with their parents over Sunday.

J.L. Barr and W.S. Bender were at Bellville Friday evening.

The little son of Jas. Price, editor of the BUTLER ENTERPRISE, is numbered with the sick.

Miss Lottie Yarger was called home on account of sickness.

Misses Olive Plank and Bertha McGinley attended the fair at Mt. Vernon, Tuesday.

I. Hess and Joe Stanton have completed laying a new pavement of Berea stone in front of their business places.

H.A. Pearce and C.C. Flaharty visited friends in Perrysville, Tuesday.

Miss Della Taylor is doing domestic work for A. Hitchman and family.

Miss Jennie Fulkerson returned to her home at Ashland, O., after a pleasant visit with the Misses Plank.
