Social and vital statistics for the year ending 31 March 1896:  There were 382 deaths during the year - of which 189 were white males and 183 white females and 1 colored female.  They were as follows according to occupation:  1 banker, 2 blacksmiths, 3 bricklayers, 8 carpenters, 2 clerks, 1 clergyman, 2 doctors, 70 farmers, 129 housekeepers, 8 house servants, 18 laborers, 2 lawyers, 2 machinists, 3 merchants, 1 shoemaker, 2 tailors, 2 teachers, 46 of various occupations, and 80 of no occupation (including children).   [source:  Richland Shield & Banner:  20 June 1896, Vol. LXXIX, No. 6]
