AN ENJOYABLE REUNION

Last Tuesday there was a pleasant gathering at the residence of Henry M. Roher, of Franklin Twp., five miles north of the city on the new state road.  It was the occasion of the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. Roher and wife, and the children and grandchildren, some of whom came from Topeka, Kan. and Delphos, Ohio, along with a number of invited guests, were present.  After a very enjoyable social chat and repast the aged couple were escorted to a room in which were stored by the children quite a number of valuable and serviceable presents, intended for the aged pair, much to their surprise.  The Rev. J.A. Dunlap on behalf of the children, presented the gifts as a token of the highest regard the children had for their parents.  The speaker said where such entertainments were cherished, there was no fear of the parents being shipped "over the hills to the poor house".  He further said that woman's mission to man was to cheer him amidst the trials of life and to impart Christian training to the children, for the work of her hands would be seen in after years, for a great one has said "the hand that rocks the cradle rocks the world" and mother's ideas are seen in the aged ones of to-day.  This aged pair came to Richland County from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in 1849, and have resided here ever since.  Two of their sons died in the late war of the rebellion.  All departed to their home conscious of the fact that it was a complete surprise on the old folks by the children, nevertheless, a pleasant one.
