Robert MURPHY was born in Morgan County Virginia about 1801 but was raised in Fayette County PA until age 19 when his father died.   Around 1820 -1824 he moved to Ohio where other family members had settled.  He came to Richland County, Springfield Twp.  and began farming near his sister, Rebecca (MURPHY) CARTER and her husband  Robert CARTER.  He married Martha Baird around 1828 to 29.  

They had 6 children:

About 1842 Martha died, and in April, 1846 Robert married Mary Ann (BLECKER) FINFROCK. They had the following children all born in Richland County: Benjamin F. b. 1846 , Loisa b. 1847, Elizabeth J. b. 1848, Martha b. 1851, William B. b. 1853, Emma K. b. 1854,  Laura b. 1856  Marion D. b. 1859, Eldora b. 1861. All but Benjamin F. ,  William and Laura died in childhood. 

Two of Robert and Martha's sons served  with GAR in the Civil War. They were Thomas Austin and David.     At  the close of the civil war, Robert's son Thomas Austin along with his childhood friend  and army chum John C. Patterson  moved to Trenton Twp. Grundy County MO.  Thomas Austin married Mary Eliza WIGGINS of Grundy County  in 1867.    Robert and Mary Ann and other of the children soon followed to Missouri.   Robert died in Lincoln Township, Grundy County MO in 1885, at age 84.   Mary Ann  then married once again to Thomas Hayes.  She died in Oregon Twp, Holt County MO.  in 1894.
