Washington Township.  The most pleasant event of the season took place at the residence of George McFarland and wife last Saturday, it being the 60th. anniversary of their marriage.  Uncle George and Aunt Polly, as everyone calls them, are among the most widely known and highly respected people of the county.  Mr. McFarland is in his 86th. year and is unusually hale and hearty for one of his years.  Mrs. McFarland is in her 80th. year and bears her age well.  She has been nearly blind for a number of years, yet manages her own household affairs.  Both are members of the Washington Congregational church and are widely known as faithful and consistent church workers.  Mr. McFarland was born in Frederick County, Md., Oct. 29th., 1805, and came to this county in 1827.  Mrs. McFarland was also born in Frederick County, Md., in 1812;  her maiden name was Mary Schlosser.  They were married May 9th., 1831.  they have eleven children, seven sons and four daughters, Samuel, Andrew, Robert, John, Mark, George, David, Mrs. Rosetta Mentzer, Mrs. Catharine Wilson, Mrs. Elizabeth Davis and Mary McFarland, deceased.  Mark, of Illinois, was unable to be present, but the rest were all there.  About 140 guests participated in the happy event, over 100 of them being relatives, the rest being neighbors.  The forenoon was spent in forming old and new acquaintances and in having a general good time.  Refreshments then being in order, all partook of an old time picnic dinner.  The assemblage was then called to order and entertained with singing and prayer.  Speechmaking then being in order, the following persons responded;  Rev. Stull, of Marion, Dr. McFarland, of Bloominggrove, and Andrew, Samuel, John and Uncle George McFarland.  We wish the aged couple many more happy returns on their marriage anniversary.

Saturday.  Mr. and Mrs. George McFarland, of Washington township, celebrated the 60th. anniversary of their marriage today at their residence, three miles southeast of the city.  The venerable couple are among the most widely known and highly respected people of the county.  Mr. McFarland is in the 86th. year of his age and Mrs. McFarland in her 80th.  Both are natives of Maryland, but came to this county before their marriage, over 60 years ago.  They are the parents of eleven children, ten of whom are living, and nine of these attended the reunion today at the old homestead.  Among the sons is Robert C. McFarland, the well known grocery in this city.  Another son, David, arrived yesterday from Des Moines, Iowa.  Another son lives in Illinois, but was unable to be present today.  All of the other children live in this county.  Both Mr. and Mrs. McFarland are in excellent health and unusual vigor for people of their age.
