ELBERT GROOMS, 63, Leeth Creek Area Farmer, Succumbs

     Elbert Lyman Grooms, 63-year-old Waverly, Route 2 farmer, died at 12:45 P.M. Sunday {Feb. 17 1957} at his residence in the Leeth Creek community. He had been in failing health for several years.
     Born in Adams County (this is wrong, he was born in Pike Co, Ohio) on September 17, 1893, he was a son of Thomas and Emily Bruce Grooms. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Curtis (Doc) and a son, Given Grooms, killed in Italy during World War 11.
     Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hazel Herdman Grooms, at home; two sons, Paul Grooms, of Mercerville, Ohio, and Elbert Jr., of Peebles, Route 1; three daughters, Mrs. Naoma James and Miss Norma Grooms, both of Waverly, Route 2; and Mrs. Ruth Stulley of Chillicothe, Rt. 5; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and three brothers, Edgar and Gideon Grooms, both of Chillicothe, and Perry Grooms of Peebles, Rt. 1.
     Mr. Grooms was a member of the Mt. Holy Church of Christ in Christian Union.
     Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the Bond's Chapel Church with the Rev. George Belchar and Rev. Autumn Scott, both of Portsmouth officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Latham Cemetery under the direction of the A. H. Boyer Funeral Home of Waverly.
Friends called at Groom's residence after 6 P.M. Monday evening.

NOTE HERE: He was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, one an infant, b. AND d. Sept 1879; Flory Belle Grooms, lived 2 months and d. June 1890; Della F Grooms, who died June 1890 and lived 2 months; and 2 other brothers, Wheeler Grooms lived only a few days, d. 1880 and Robert Earl Grooms lived a little more than a year, having died Sept. 1888.
