 COUNTY'S OLDEST CITIZEN PASSES.  Genial "Johnny," 101, Was Famed Fiddler.

     Pike County's oldest resident John R. Grooms, 101 years and six months, died at 10:15 A.M. Saturday, January 7 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lina Williams, of Elm Grove.
     Mr. Grooms had been ill for the last three weeks.
     He was a retired timber worker and farmer and last year was pictured in  local papers with five generations of the family.
     Born in  Pike County on July 7, 1854,  he was a son of  Eliza and Nancy Copas Grooms.
     Mr. Grooms had resided in the Elm Grove community his entire life and was known as  an "old time fiddler" who could still swing a "wicked bow" at the age of 100 years.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Gragg Grooms, 18 years ago, and  three children.
     Surviving are a son, Chris Grooms of Sabina; two daughters, Mrs. Lida Alexander and Mrs. Williams, both of Elm Grove; 27 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-great grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Smith Hill Church Cemetery under the  directions of the Wylie Funeral Home of  Sinking Springs.
