Mrs. Isabelle Higgins
Passes Away at Her Home, on Glen Crest, Saturday Night. On Monday, January 7, 1907, Col. Thomas W. Higgins departed this life. On Saturday January 4, 1908, almost a year later, his wife Mrs. Isabelle Higgins followed her husband out of this life.
Isabelle Wade, maiden name of Mrs. Isabelle Higgins, was born April 20 1837 in Dublin Ireland. In 1855, she met Mr. T. W. Higgins who was then traveling in that country. They were married the same year and like true women she left father, mother and country and came to America with her hudband. This union was blest with nine children, five of whom are living, namely, Mrs. Alleen Kehrer of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. Isabell Viers of Pittsburg, Pa., Mrs. Francis M. Earenflight of Councel Bluffs, Iowa, Miss Nellie Higgins and Mrs. Muriel Oyer of Waverly, O., Mrs. Higgins was of noble English birth, both the father and the mother being among England’s noblemen. She was the truest of mothers, making many sacrifices for her children. When left alone during the war of the rebellion she rode on horse back over large portions of Pike County giving music lessons that she might furnish her daughters with the advantages of a musical education. She was the sunshine of her home and surely her daughters rise up and call her blessed. She was a member of the Protestant Espiscopal Church from early girlhood and fell asleep in that faith January 4, 1908. Col. Higgings her husband, died about one year ago, hence, their separation was but brief. The bells had scarcely ceased ringing in the new year, when the beautiful spirit of this sainted and much beloved mother passed through the gates of Pearl to join the kindred spirits of those who had gone before. The dear loved ones left here below can well afford to bear their loss since that loss is her eternal gain. Her funeral was conducted by Rev. G. W. Lott at the old home on the hill overlooking Waverly, Wednesday at 1 o’clock p. m. and her precious dust was laid beside her husband in Waverly Cemetery followed by a large concourse of the people of Waverly.
