Thomas Newton Shopshire
, 83-year-old retired Newton Township farmer, died at 12:15 A.M. Friday, October 26 (1956) at his residence on Piketon, Route 2, after being seriously ill for the past year.
A native of Pike County, he was born on March 6, 1873, the son of Gilbert and Ellen Alban Shopshire. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Emma Sherritt Shopshire.
Mr. Shopshire was a member of the Jasper Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Laura Osborn Shopshire; two sons, Ralph Shopshire, of Cleveland, and Harold Shopshire, of Waverly; a daughter, Mrs. Mellie McGuire, of Piketon, Route 2; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Clark, of Fletcher, Ohio.
The body was taken to Howe Company Funeral Home in Piketon.
Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Sunday at the Howe Company Funeral Home with the Rev. Lonnie Murray, of near Waverly officiating. Burial followed in Mound Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home until time for the final rites.
