Mrs. May Emmitt, wife of Rufus Emmitt died at her home in Waverly, May 24, 1881, age 19 years and 5 days old.
She was born in the state of Pennsylvania, May 19, 1862. Her parents moved to Jackson County (Ohio) in 1866, where she resided until her marriage with Rufus Emmitt on February 13, 1878, after which she made her home in Waverly until her death. She was taken away in the prime of womanhood -- only 19. In her sixteeth year she became a wife, her wedded life being a brief but happy one. In the last year her health began to fail. She was a patient sufferer, and bore all her sufferings with Christian fortitude. When near the end she was asked if she was ready and willing to die. She answered yes; yet when she remembered her kind and affectionate husband, and baby boy, who never would know a mother's care and love; her kind parents and little sisters --- for their sakes I would like to live, but am willing to give up all for the sake of Him who died for me. And when the springtime came, and the roses bloom she fell asleep in Jesus.
