VFW honors vets at Pleasant Hill Manor with flag raising ceremony
Old, solemn tradition honors heritage of former soldiers.
Piketon, Ohio - October 12, 2008. On a cold and blustery afternoon, a group of veterans gathered at Pleasant Hill Manor or participate in a flag raising ceremony, and old and solemn tradition. The veterans present reprinted all branches of the armed forces and participated in conflicts ranging from World War II to Viet Nam. The presentation was made by members of the VFW post #2832.
"We enjoy the ceremony at Pleasant Hill Manor because a lot of veterans participate", commented Robert Ditentdal, Honor Guard member. "The veterans appreciate the recognition of their service and we appreciate the opportunity to serve as a conduit to their military heritage" concluded Ditentdal, Honor Guard, Kevin Hoover added "A significant number of veterans call Pleasant Hill Manor home and the staff encourage the veterans to stay connected to their community. We take comfort in the knowledge local veterans are cared for added Hoover.
Amy Clemmons, Pleasant Hill Administrator understands the gravity of such events. "We know the importance of the ceremony and ritual. Many of our residents have an amazing history of the military accomplishments and we do our best to thank them when the occasion presents itself. It's great to see the veterans gather and share stories. The conversation is always lively and fascinating during these gatherings" added Clemmons.
Pleasant Hill Manor resident and former Marine, Robert Scott commented, "A lot our servicemen and women are in harm's way today as we speak. We do this to recognize their sacrifice. I thank the follows from Post 2832 making the effort to include us in the ceremony" concluded Scott.
