Private Harold Reisinger writes us Interesting Letter - Winter was Very Severe but Spring is Opening Up - Morale is Good.

The following letter is from Harold Reisinger, who, with other Pike County boys, is in training at Camp Pike, Arkansas.

To Editor Waverly Watchman:

Dear Sir:
As I have seen so many letters in the Watchman from the various cantonments, I thought I would all a small bit to what I have seen in my home paper about camp life.

We have always spoken of Arkansas as being in the "Sunny" South but we fellows found the past winter to be about as severe as any we ever experienced in Ohio.  Spring now seems to be here for the grass is springing about as severe as any we ever experienced in Ohio.  Spring now seems to be here for the grass is springing up everywhere and spring flowers are blooming.

Our company has been quarantined for measles and mumps most of the winter, but we are now free again and our officers are willing to grant us passes, to visit the nearby towns, at any time we are off duty.  We are given fine entertainment at the Y. M. C. A. every night, by bands, movies, speeches and various other entertainment, a large part of which is furnished by the good people of Little Rock.

Our company recently took the first prize in a division review before Gen Sturgis division commander.

We have not had a week's course in gas instruction.  Last night we had a real experience with gas in the woods.  We all had our masks off when someone shouted gas and we saw a cloud rolling toward us and surely made good time in getting on masks.  We must put on and adjust our masks in 6 seconds before we can qualify for duty aboard.  We do not know when we will "cross the pond" but I think the Pike County boys are all ready at any time to take their place in the front line trench for the great cause for which we are training to fight.  Yours for the honor of old Pike County.
