LAST PIKE COUNTY CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES
Samuel Shattuck, 98, dies after an hour's illiness. After only an hour illness, Samual A Shattuck, 98, Pike County's last Civil War veteran, died on Tuesday night at nine o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ake Walls where he resides.
Mr. Shattuck served four years in the Civil War and saw plenty of action. He was shot and carried off the field of battle by the late Lewis Weiss.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at two o'clock at the home and burial will follow in the Machee (McBee) Cemetery under the direction of O. A. Tener.
(*added note: Samuel was born May 31, 1942 - died Nov 12, 1940, the son of Samuel and Mary Shattuck. His wife, Lida (Walls) Shattuck born 1845 died March 9, 1926 - information per death certificates)
