FORMER DAYTONIAN DIES IN CHICAGO

Word was received here Tuesday morning announcing the death in Chicago at an early hour of Edward Sacksteder, formerly a well-known Dayton boy, who, for some years, has made his home in Appleton, Wis. He had been ill for some time, but his condition was not thought to be serious until about 10 days ago, when he took to his bed, and soon all hope of his recovery was abandoned. His mother, Mrs. Peter Sacksteder, and sister, Miss Clara Sacksteder, left Dayton a week ago and remained at his bedside, with the devoted wife, until the end.

Mrs. Charles Sherer and her sister, Miss Kate Sacksteder, will leave Tuesday night for Appleton, where the remains have been taken for burial. His death follows quickly that of his sister, Miss Jeannette Sacksteder, of this city, who passed away three months ago, and the blow falls heavily upon the venerable mother, who is thus called upon to bear the double bereavement.

The deceased was prominent in the drug business here before going to Appleton, where for years he conducted a drug store, until a few months since, when he located in Chicago. He was 38 years of age and leaves a widow, besides his mother, several brothers and sisters and a large number of relatives here. He was popular in a wide circle, and the announcement of his death will prove sad news to his host of friends.

SACKSTEDER RITES WILL BE FRIDAY

Funeral services for Joseph Sacksteder, 75, former Dayton grocer, who died Tuesday at the St. Elizabeth hospital after an illness of four years will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the home of his sister, Miss Theresa Sacksteder, 264 Volusia av. and at 9:30 a.m. at Emmanuel church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Friends may call at the residence.

Prior to his retirement four years ago he had operated a grocery store at the corner of Washington and Cincinnati sts. He was a life-long resident of Dayton and a member of the Holy Name society of Emmanuel church, the St. Elizabeth society, the St. Joseph Orphans society and the Gesellen Verein.

Surviving are six sisters, Mary, Theresa, Flora, Ida, Louise and Mrs. Clara Kohle and five brothers, John, Richard and Louis of Dayton and Vincent of Cincinnati and Leo of Sandusky.

Death came suddenly to Mrs. Nancy J. Saint, widow of William Saint, at her home, 233 McDaniel street, Friday morning. She attended a meeting of the Loving Service branch of the International Sunshine society Thursday afternoon, and appeared to be in good health at the time.

Mrs. Saint was resident of Dayton for many years.

She leaves her son, William Pearne; two daughters, Mrs. Foster G. Houseworth and Mrs. Louis F. Goetz; five grandchildren and two sisters to mourn her loss.

The funeral arrangements have not been made.

CONDUCT NUN'S RITES SATURDAY

Funeral of Sister Mary Salomia, who died Wednesday at St. Clare's convent, Chicago, was held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the convent. Burial took place in the cloister cemetery.

Sister Mary Salomia was formerly Miss Anna Zwiesler of Dayton. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Constantine Zwiesler, leading members of St. Mary's church.

SAWYER FUNERAL RITES WILL BE HELD TUESDAY

Services for Clarence Sawyer, 63, of 27 Redland st., who died Friday at Brown hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Administration chapel.

Burial will be in the VA center cemetery. Friends may call at Jones Brothers funeral home, 455 W. Fifth st., after 10 a.m. Sunday. Memorial services will be held at 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home by Waldorf Lodge 76, Elks.

Mr. Sawyer was born in Washington county, O., and had lived here 35 years.

He was an employe of the Dayton City Street department for 18 years and was forced to retire when he became ill two years ago. He was a veteran of World War I. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Mary E. Henshaw, and a brother, William C., both of Columbus.

The funeral of Herominus Schaaf, 59, who died Tuesday evening at his residence, 319 Irving av., was conducted Friday morning at 7:30 at the house and at 8 o'clock at Holy Angels church. Burial was made in Calvary cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna B. Schaeff, 83, who died Friday at her home, 1641 Detzen av., will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Meyer and Boehmer funeral home, 600 Washington st. Burial will be in Willow View cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Ada V. Schaeffer, wife of Walter B. Schaeffer, who died Monday, will be held Thursday at 10 o'clock a.m. at the late home, 1130 North Main street. The burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ida St. John Schaeffer, former Dayton resident, who died Saturday at her home in Cleveland, of pneumonia, will be held at the Cleveland home Tuesday and burial will be in Ferncliffe cemetery, Springfield, Tuesday at 4 p. m. Mrs. Schaeffer had made her home in Cleveland for the past 12 years and was the widow of Edgar A. Schaeffer.

Mrs. Herbert Schaeffer, aged 27, wife of the night dispatcher of the C., C. & P. traction line, died at her home in West Milton Wednesday morning after an operation for appendicitis. The body was removed to Brookville for burial. Her husband and one child survive.

Funeral services for Aloysius M. Schaefer, 42, who died Sunday at 7:45 p. m., at his residence, 748 S. Brown st., after an extended illness will be held Thursday at 8:30 a. m. from the residence and at 9 a. m. at Emanuel church. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery. Special services will be held by the Elks lodge at the Schaeffer residence Wednesday, at 7:45 p. m.

GEORGE SCHANTZ BURIED THURSDAY

The funeral of George Schantz was held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the residence, West River street. Services were in charge of Rev. W. A. Hale, pastor of the Grafton Avenue Reformed church. Many friends and business associates of Mr. Schantz were present for the rites. The pallbearers included three brothers-in-law, Harold Carpenter, John Alden Brown and Frank Maharg, and three close friends, Jack Harshman, Charles Oxias and Milton Rauh.

Burial was made in Woodland cemetery. The Knights of Pythias conducted ritualistic services at the house Wednesday evening.

Funeral services for Franklin B. Schiek, 77, who died at his residence, 19 W. McPherson st., Sunday night will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Frank Riesinger chapel. Burial will be made in Ft. McKinley cemetery.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., at the Frank Riesinger funeral home for Mrs. Alice Schmidt, of 126 Baltimore st., who died Saturday. Surviving her are two daughters and two grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park.

DIED AT HOSPITAL

From an illness of dropsy of long duration, Mrs. Anna Schmidt, a resident of Sidney, died Friday morning at St. Elizabeth hospital, where she had been only three days. She is survived by her husband Henry Schmidt. The body will be taken to her home for burial some time Saturday.

Samuel P. Schiffler, 66, of 240 Fillmore st., was found dead at 1 p.m. Saturday at the residence following a heart attack. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Catherine Schiffler; two sisters, Alice Schiffler and Mrs. Callie Reedy. Funeral Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the residence and burial in Calvary. Schiffler was well known in Dayton through having been proprietor of a feed store for some years. Recently he was employed at the Advance Foundry Co. as night watchman. He worked Friday night.

GEORGE W. SCHMIDT, 63, DIES AFTER HEART ATTACK

Services for George W. Schmidt, 63, of 115 Pierce st., will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Westbrock funeral home, 1712 Wayne av., by the Rev. Paul Sharp. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Schmidt was dead on arrival at Miami Valley hospital at 4 p.m. Tuesday. He had suffered a heart attack in his home.

Mr. Schmidt was a life resident of Dayton and a veteran of World War I. He had retired two years ago after being associated with the Glawe Manufacturing Co. 22 years.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Betty Ritter of Dayton and Mrs. Helen Martin of Maplewood; two brothers, John and Fred of Dayton and six grandchildren.

FORMER DAYTONIAN DIES IN CHICAGO

Dayton relatives and friends were notified Saturday of the death in Chicago this week of A. J. Schmil, 62, who 25 years ago conducted a drug store on Xenia avenue, but who later went to Chicago where he practiced law, later becoming prominently identified with politics and serving as Democratic Alderman for the South Side and becoming one of the best known members of the city's law making body.

Mr. Schiml was a son of the late John Schmil, who years ago was engaged in the brewing business here, at Wayne avenue and Hickory street. Relatives in this city are Andy Schmil, Mrs. Oldig, South Wayne avenue, and others here.

Word from Chicago is to the effect that his widow is also very ill in Mercy hospital. Following her recovery funeral services for Mr. Schmil will be held in this city.

MRS. SCHNABEL'S FUNERAL WILL BE ON MONDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Rosalia Schnabel, 81, who died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Pfieffer, 531 St. Paul av., are to be held Monday morning at 7:30 o'clock from that address. Services also will be held at St. Mary's church at 7:45 o'clock.

Mrs. Schnabel had been a resident of Dayton for more than 50 years and came to this country from Germany when at the age of 18 years.

Two sons, Joseph and George and three daughters, Mrs. William Pfieffer, Miss Theresa Schnabel and Mrs. John Zimmerle, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all of Dayton survive.

The funeral of Mrs. Margaret E. Schoenherr, 68, who died Sunday evening at her late residence, 123 Barney street, will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home of her son, Frank, 118 S. Irwin street, and 2:00 o'clock at St. Paul's German Lutheran church. Rev. M. C. Hecht will officiate. Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery. She leaves her husband, Frank Schoenherr, two sons, one daughter and a brother.

BAKER AT COUNTY INFIRMARY INSTANTLY KILLED BY TRACTION CAR

Joe Schott, a baker, employed at the county infirmary, was struck and instantly killed by an incoming Dayton and Western car Wednesday night about 10 o'clock, at Kingsville, a few miles west of the city. He was sitting on the track, and before the motorman was able to stop the car, Schott had been hit and his skull crushed. Death was probably instantaneous. The car was stopped and it was the intention to bring him to the city to a physician's office, but it was seen that he was dead, and Coroner Kline was called. He turned the body over to Undertakers Reissinger (sic) & Hibbler, and they removed it to their establishment.

Schott had been employed at the infirmary a year. He probably thought he was in his room, as he took off one shoe, and had the other unlaced, and doubtless imagined that he was going to bed. He was only 26 years of age, and had but few relatives. One of these, a sister, lives in this city, and is employed by the Schantz family. An uncle is also thought to be a resident of Dayton, but has not yet been located.

The body is held pending orders from Coroner Kline, who will decide later what disposition to make of it.

CLARA A. SCHUDER DIES AT AGE 93; FUNERAL DEC. 21

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Brough Memorial Funeral Home for Mrs. Clara Arhanda Schuder, 93, who died at her residence, 9273 Byers road, at 6:36 p.m., Wednesday, Dec 16.

The Rev. Oliver Arne Rajala of the First Lutheran Church was officiating clergymen. Burial was in Hillgrove cemetery.

Mrs. Schuder was a native and life-long resident of the Miamisburg area having been born, a daughter of David Andrews Emert and Catherine Emert at a property which formerly stood near west end of Benner road.

For the past 46 years she resided at the home of nephews Carl and Walter Emert, at the Byers road address. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Mack of Taylor, Mich., seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Ethel Elizabeth, the ten year old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Schueller, died Friday morning at her home, 405 West Fourth street, from acute bronchial pneumonia. Besides her parents, she leaves two sisters and two brothers. She attended Sacred Heart school. The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart church Monday afternoon at o'clock, and burial will be made at Calvary cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie M. Schultz, widow of M. J. Private funeral services were conducted Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Schlientz and Moore funeral home, 2600 Wayne av., and at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony church for Eugene Schwartz, 27, who died Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the local hospital. Interment was in Calvary cemetery. He is survived by two sisters Edna and Rita of Dayton, and three brothers, Alben, Lee and Gerard, also of Dayton.

SCHWEIZER - At the National Asylum for D.V.S., near Dayton, Ohio, on September 10th, 1872, Jacob Schweizer, aged sixty-four years, late of Tenth Battery Ohio Light Artillery. Cause of death, dropsy, from disease of heart. Admitted to Asylum July 18th, 1872.

Amalia Schwind died Thursday, Jan. 12, at 1:20 a.m., aged 67 years. Funeral Saturday at 8 o'clock from the residence of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Adolph Schwind, 39 Holt st., and at Emmanuel church at 8:30. Interment Calvary cemetery. Friends invited.

Mrs. Maude Seecamp, 76, of 1941 Gondert av., died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at the home of her niece, Mrs. Flora Millard of 25 Oakridge av., after a long illness. She was born in Springfield and had been a resident of Dayton 50 years. She was a member of the Daughters of America Hepmates council and St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church. Other survivors are a niece, Mrs. Marie Pontius of Borger, Tex., and a nephew, Charles H. Stokes, of Dayton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Morris Sons funeral home, 1809 E. Third av., by Rev. W. B. Grunewald. Burial will be in Willowview cemetery. Godfrey Seiters, 76, died at his home, 1014 Home avenue, yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. He was a member of the Old Guard Post, No. 23, G. A. R. His wife, with six sons and three daughters survive. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. (Dayton Journal, 16 September 1915, Pg 12)

Funeral services for Harvey Seslar, 81 years old, killed Wednesday night near Xenia in an automobile accident, will be held at 1 o'clock, Saturday afternoon, from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. George Rabe, Jr., 10 Lonsdale avenue and at 2:30 o'clock at the Baptist church, Jamestown, O., with burial in Jamestown cemetery. A retired Greene county farmer, Mr. Seslar had resided with Mrs. Rabe for the last 15 years. Another daughter, Mrs. Lola Stephens, of Dayton; two sisters, Frances Engle, of Dayton, and Alice Jenks, of Xenia, and one Granddaughter also survive.

Frank A. Serrer, 74, of 2827 E. Fifth st., died at 3:30 a.m. Friday at his residence after a long illness.

A life resident of Dayton, he had been a floor manager at the Rike-Kumler Co. 28 years. He was a member of the Holy Name society of Holy Name church and the Catholic Knights of Ohio.

Surviving are his wife, Lily; four daughters, Mrs. Bernice Ziaukas and Mrs. Mary Jane Kurtz of Dayton, Mrs. Katherine Conway of Cleveland and Mrs. Betty Potts of Florida; four sons, Robert, Frank, James and Richard of Dayton; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Folz of Dayton and Mrs. Clara Lindner of Cincinnati, and 34 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Lon Shank, 68, who died at 11 p.m. Friday at his residence, 181 Salem av., will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at his residence and at 3 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal church with burial in Woodland cemetery. Mrs. Mayme Elizabeth Shank, 45, died Thursday at 11:15 a. m. after a prolonged illness of five years, during which she has been confined to her bed.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gordon Hunter, and one son, Charles Lynch.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p. m. at the Reisinger funeral home, 718 Wayne av. Rev. Harvey Hahn will officiate. Burial in David's cemetery.

Victim of Influenza, to be Buried Sunday Morning

Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa Shank, 21, who died at her residence, 39 Greencastle street, Thursday afternoon at 2:30, have been arranged to take place Sunday at the residence at 8 o'clock. The burial will be made at West Alexandria. In addition to her husband and one son, three years old, Mrs. Shank is survived by three brothers and one sister. Rev. Cobb will officiate at the services Sunday. Mrs. Shank's death was due to influenza.

SHARTLE-Ada, beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Shartle, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 26 at 7:30, at her home on Ayers avenue. Funeral at 2 p.m. from residence, 105 Ayers avenue. Interment Woodland.

FORMER DATON WOMAN IS DEAD
Mrs. Nellie Shaw of New York City Succumbs at Columbus

News had been received here of the death of Mrs. Nellie Shaw, of New York City, sister of Mrs. Bernard Leinesch of 61 Burns av. She died at Grant hospital, Columbus.

Mrs. Shaw formerly resided in Dayton, and had been here for the past six months visiting her sister, Mrs. Lienesch . She recently went to Columbus on a visit and was ill there but a short time. The news of her death was a shock to her friends in Dayton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning from the home of Mrs. Bernard Leinesch, 61 Burns av., and at Emanuel church with burial at Calvary cemetery.

Isabel Florence Shea, died Monday, 6:30 a.m., at the home of her brother Chellus H. Shea. Funeral at Elkhart, Ind. Friends invited.

Forest R. Shellabarger, 47, of 3701 Hoover av., died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Good Samaritan hospital. He was a foreman for 18 years at Plant 2 of the Frigidaire division of General Motors. Surviving are his wife, Emma; his father, Jesses of Dayton; a son, Forest Jr., Dayton, a daughter, Mrs. Iva O'Connor, at home; three brothers, Leroy, Vernard and Jesses S., all of Dayton, a sister, Mrs. Edith Landis of Piqua, and three grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the residence and at 2 p.m. at the Englewood EUB church with the Rev. Woodrow Bell officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery at Englewood. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday at the residence.

DIES TWO HOURS AFTER HUSBAND'S RETURN FROM A PROLONGED ABSENCE

Mrs. James Shepherd, residing on the Covington Pike, about 5 miles north of the city, died suddenly Tuesday night of rheumatism of the heart. Coroner Kline was called and viewed the body.

The deceased was 55 years of age and is survived by four sons and one daughter. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon, with interment in this city at Woodland.

Mrs. Shephered [sic] is the wife of James Shepherd, whose mysterious disappearance was chronicled in yesterday's Journal. It will be remembered that he left his home for work at the new Schantz building at Fifth and Brown streets early Monday morning. When the usual time for his return came in the evening he did not put in his appearance and for hours the wife and two sons who reside at home anxiously awaited his coming without avail.

Shephered [sic] is a carpenter, and his sons farm the place. Early Tuesday morning the youngest son, Clarence, appeared at police headquarters and inquired for his father, but no trace was discovered.

Tuesday passed and it was not until night that the father returned to his home. He had been in the house but a few hours until his wife suffered an attack of rheumatism and died in her husband's arms.

Shepherd explains his absence by stating that he spent the night at the home of his wife's sister, Mrs. Clemmens, of South Wayne avenue. He says that after leaving off work on the Schantz building at noon Monday, in company with Mr. Clemmens, he went to the country to inspect a concrete contract which the latter was constructing. When they returned in the evening it was too late for him to catch a car for home, and he went to the Clemmens residence. However, he failed to notify his family of his whereabouts until later in the day, when the boy returned home from the morning market with the information that his father was alive and well.

The death has been a great shock to the husband who returned to his home just in time to spend the last few hours with his wife.

It is feared that the absence of her husband on Monday night may have hastened, in a measure, Mrs. Shepherd's death, but Mr. Shepherd stated last evening that his being away from home was not the occasion of great uneasiness to the family, and had caused no especial [sic] worry on the part of his wife.

The funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Jane Sherer, 64, who died May 5 at the residence, 36 Hallwood av., will be held at 1:30 Sunday afternoon at the Euclid Avenue U.B. church. Burial will be in Eaton cemetery.

Mrs. Anna M. Sherwood was born in Dayton, O., January 20th 1816--died Friday, April 12th 1889 at 5:45 o�clock p.m., at the residence of her son-in-law Mr. L. S. Fish, No. 1025 Cedar avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. Her remains were brought to Dayton, Monday, April 15 and conveyed to Woodland chapel, where services were held at 4 p.m. Rev. W. Macafee of Grace Church officiating. The body was laid to rest beside her father and mother, John and Catherine Dodson in Woodland.

Mrs. Sherwood�s father was one of the founders of Wesley Chapel, now Grace Church. His home was the rendezvous of the ministry, and during the absence of the circuit minister he filled the pulpit. Mrs. Sherwood joined Wesley Chapel when but eleven years of age. She remained a resident of this city until the fall of 1870, when she removed to Kansas City, Mo.

Two years ago she went to Cleveland to be with her daughter awhile, Mrs. Fish, and immediately joined the Central M. E. Church of that city. During her sickness she was comforted by many kindly visits from her pastor, Rev. B. F. Dimmick, late of Grace Church, this city.

She passed away peacefully, rejoicing in a well spent life in the service of her Lord. She was the last surviving child of a family of twelve children, and leaves four daughters--Mrs. Ellen S. Crain, of N.Y. City; Mrs. Nettie Fish, Cleveland, O.; Mrs. Anna S. Phalin, Salem, Mass., and Miss Millie E. Sherwood, Kansas City, Mo.

MRS. ELIZABETH SHILT � Mrs. Elizabeth Shilt, who died Tuesday, was born February 13, 1821 in Springboro, Warren County, O. She was a daughter of John and Mary Cecil and came to this county when 10 years of age. Her mother, Mary Cecil, came to Ohio from Maryland.

Mrs. Shilt was baptized in early infancy and confirmed to the Evangelical Lutheran church to which she remained faithful till her death.

She was united in marriage to Amos Shilt, March 22, 1838. This worthy couple lived happily together over 54 years. Amos Shilt departed this life July 6, 1893. At the death of her husband, Mrs. Shilt continued to reside at West Baltimore.

For a number of years she enjoyed comparatively good health for one of her advanced age, but of late began to experience infirmities of old age until she was called by death. She left on earth to mourn her departure five sons and three daughters. Three sons and two daughters preceded her in death. She also left on earth thirty grandchildren. There are now living forty9nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

For a number of years Mrs. Shilt was a faithful and consistent member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church. She was a truly pious and devout Christian woman, showing her faith by her works, by her daily walk and conversation. He great kindness and benevolence toward needy and distressed persons were prominent traits of her character.

The funeral services were held at St. Matthew's church, Ithaca, O. on Thursday. The pastor, Rev. P. A. Peter, preached the funeral discourse.

LIVED IN DAYTON FOR MANY YEARS

The funeral of Irvin Shingledecker, whose death occurred at St. Elizabeth hospital at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, was held Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the residence, 1804 East Fourth street, and at the Fairfield M. E. church at 2 o'clock. Burial was made in Fairfield cemetery.

He was ill about six months with paralysis before his death. He was born in Harshman 62 years ago, but had lived in Dayton most of his life. His first wife died 12 years ago. His second wife survives, together with his father, two sisters, four brothers and five children.

Funeral services for Clyde S. Shipley, 51, of 420 N. Mathison st., were held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the residence and at 3 p.m. at Summitville, Ind. Burial in Summitville cemetery.

Mrs. Helena Shock died at 7:45 a. m., at 2625 West Third st. Short services will be held at the house at 8:30 a. m. Friday. Remains will be taken to Ebersole church and cemetery, 10 miles west of Dayton, for burial.

SHROYER, Earl C., 94, of Kettering, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Oak Creek Terrace. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian and his parents and a great-granddaughter Alexa. He is survived by his son Stephen Shroyer and his daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Ronald Frazier all of Kettering. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and a host of dear friends. Earl was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and had retired from Delco Products after many years of service. He was the past master of Alpha Lodge #729 F & AM and was an avid golfer, bowler, and loved softball. Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Jane Sieber, 91, who died at her residence, 3(or 8)40 Brightwood avenue, Wednesday afternoon, after a stroke of apoplexy, will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Shiloh church. Burial will be in Shiloh cemetery.

Mrs. Sieber was one of the pioneer residents of Dayton and was one of the few remaining people to witness the coming of the first steam car to Dayton.

Donald C. Sigourney, 54, a World War veteran, died Wednesday at the National Military Home hospital. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Ola Hall of Willard, O. Services will be held at 1:15 p.m. Friday at the Protestant chapel at the Home.

Eugene Robert Silbereis, 29 years old, died at 3:22 o'clock, Thursday afternoon at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Silbereis, 1840 Huffman avenue. He had been ill five years. Surviving are his parents, two brothers, Henry, of Dayton, and Louis, of Cleveland; one sister, Mrs. Clara Krebs, Dayton. Mr. Silbereis was a member of the Holy Name society of Holy Family church. The body was taken to the Westbrock funeral home.

SILVER, Mr. Howard G., age 84, of 281 Birchwood Dr., Townhouse East, Mishawaka, Ind., (formerly of Springfield, O.) passed away Tuesday in South Bend, Ind. He was a retired body draftsman for the Studebaker Corp., a member of Portage Lodge No. 675 F&AM, South Bend, Ind. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister and is survived by his wife, Mary M. SON, TWO SISTERS DIE IN SIX MONTHS Worry Believed to Have Caused Death of Mrs. Caylor Within the last six months John J. Naley of 38 N. Sperling av. has seen the death of his son and two sisters. Bernard J. Naley, 19, his son, died six months ago. He succumbed after a long illness. The youth was a student at the University of Dayton. Mrs. Annie Caylor, 52, of 1778 Xenia av., Naley's sister, died Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. She is believed to have died as a result of worrying over the death of her sister, Mrs. Mary Ellen Simons, 58, of 1123 E. Second st., who died a week ago.

Died on the 16th of August, 1866, Mrs. Elizabeth Simpson, aged 71 years [wife of Moses Simpson (reference short notice on Aug 29, 1866)].

Again death has come with its bitter sting, and called from earth to joy eternal, an other aged, pioneer. The subject of this memoir was born in the State of New Jersey, in the year, 1795, and came to Ohio in 1804. As one of the earliest settlers, Mother Simpson has lived to see the wilderness of the mighty West, by the hand of industry and prosperity reared up into States, towns and cities. Mrs. Cecelie M. Sims, 51, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday at her home, 1924 Pershing blvd., after an illness of 18 months.

A Dayton resident for 18 years, Mrs. Sims was originally from Jackson.

Funeral services of Roy Sine, who died Tuesday, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence, 29 Riegel street. Interment will be made in Woodland cemetery. Sine had been a member of the local police department for 18 months. His death followed an illness of influenza and pneumonia.

DOROTHY CAROLINE SINKS � Dorothy Caroline Sinks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Sinks, 1633 South Main street, died Thursday night at St. Elizabeth hospital. Funeral will be private and will be held Saturday at the residence.

MRS. HELEN SINKS DIES; ACTIVE IN LODGE AFFAIRS

Mrs. Helen Sinks, 63, of 110 Colorado av., died at 8:40 p.m. Thursday at Miami Valley hospital following an illness of three weeks. She had been a patient there since Dec. 1.

A life resident of Dayton, Mrs. Sinks was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal church and Harmony White Shrine. She was a past worthy matron of Sunbeam chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; past high priestess of the Ladies Oriental Shrine, Bara court, and past queen of the Daughters of the Nile, Azizah temple.

Surviving are her husband, Malcolm; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Nelson, Mrs. Zane Baker and Mrs. Charles Michael of Dayton; a son, Robert of Bowie, Tex., and nine grandchildren.

Malcolm Sinks, 84, of 825 North Skycrest Blvd., Leesburg, died Monday.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, he had been a resident of Leesburg for the past five years moving from Baconton, Ga. He was retired from the National Cash Register Company in Dayton. He was a member of Baconton Baptist Church, Hanson Masonic Temple, Albany, Ga., and the Scottish Rite in Dayton, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie, Leesburg; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Nelson, Mrs. Virginia Michel, and Mrs. JoAnn Baker, all of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Marie Clark, Los Cruces, N.M.; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Page-Theus Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gil Barrow, pastor of First Baptist Church of Leesburg, officiating.

Mr. Smith was born and had lived in this vicinity all his life, being a well known farmer, for the past 20 years living in Germantown.

Harriett Smith, 78, of 1408 W. Fifth st., was found dead at her residence Friday morning by her son, according to police. Police said the son told them she apparently had died during the night. The coroner's office said she had been under a doctor's care for a heart ailment.

Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Fayetteville, Tenn., with burial there. Friends may all at the Reed funeral home, 2030 W. Third st., until 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services for Mrs. Holly Denny Smith, 56, wife of George B. Smith, 635 Salem av., who died Tuesday night following an illness of two years, will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock from the residence. Rev. H. J. Herber, pastor of Hale Memorial church will officiate and burial will be in the Woodland cemetery.

Though in ill health for an extended period, the malady was not regarded as fatal. Several weeks ago however, Mrs. Smith suffered a complete collapse, brought about by nervous disorders and a stomach ailment. From then on, her death was but a matter of days.

She was born near Portland, Ind., close to the "Limberlost" farm of Mrs. Gene Stratton Porter. She came with her family to West Alexandria, Preble co. when a small child. Here she lived until she was married in 1890 and move to Dayton.

She was for more than 25 years an active member of the First Reformed church of which Rev. William A. Hale was pastor. For 12 years, she was superintendent of the primary department of the Sunday school classes of this church.

After the establishment of the Hale Memorial Reformed church at Grafton and Delaware avs., the members of the family moved their memberships to that congregation, where she took an active part in the church work.

Mrs. Smith was recently elected president of the Woman's Auxiliary organization of this church. She had for a number of years, been a member of the board of trustees of the Margaret club, on W. Second st. This home was founded by the late Mrs. Marie Kumler, who was its president, while Mrs. Smith served as Vice President.

She was also secretary and treasurer of the board of the Springfield Street Community Home, founded by Mrs. H. E. Palmer, who is still its superintendent.

Mrs. Smith was a charter member of the New Book club and took a leading part in its field of activities.

For many years she has taken an interest in church, educational and civic affairs, serving on a number of women's committees, including that of the Dayton chapter of the National Aeronautic association.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Miss Martha C. Smith, her mother, Mrs. Matilda C. Black and an aunt, Miss Jane Oswald.

Laboring unselfishly in causes for the general community good, Mrs. Smith will be widely mourned.

Mr. Smith is the business representative for Col E. A. Deeds and C. F. Kettering. He is also president of the Moraine Park school, trustee of Antioch college, a director of Winters national bank and is connected with a score of other business, financial, educational, civic and philanthropic interests. He is also active in the Dayton chapter of the National Aeronautic Association.

Mrs. Martha Smith, 70, formerly of 611 Dearborn av., died at 3:30 a.m. Friday at the Montgomery county hospital. There are no known survivors. The body was removed to the Dayton Reisinger funeral home, 718 Wayne av.

Funeral services for Marvin Smith, jr., 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Eugene Smith, sr., who was killed Tuesday afternoon when a truck, being backed from the rear of his home at 245 Valley st. by his father, crushed him under a wheel, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the residence, with burial in Fairfield cemetery. Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, Myrtle; one brother, Buddie, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Smith of R.R.6.

MOTHER FOLLOWS CHILD IN DEATH

Mrs. Mary J. Smith, wife of Frank L. Smith, died of influenza at her home, 1006 1/2 South Brown street, Saturday evening at 8 o'clock.

Her death followed the death of her baby, which occurred at birth Friday evening. The illness of the mother was responsible for the death of the child.

Mrs. Smith had lived in Dayton four years. Formerly she lived in Waverly and Washington C.H. She leaves her husband, an employee of the N.C.R. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Smith, Mrs. Nancy A., age 91, of 4561 Channing Lane, died Wednesday. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Ida) McDaniel with whom Mrs. Smith made her residence. Also survived by 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Baker Funeral Home, 5555 Philadelphia Dr. at N. Main, Rev. Don Pippin officiating. Burial will follow in Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.

Orpha B. Smith, age 86, of 39 S. Main St., Germantown, died Wednesday, October 16. She was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Edward in 1966.

Survivors include a son, Herschel of Germantown; two brothers, Harry Boomershine of Dayton and Lewis Boomershine of Germantown; one sister, Hazel Lieurance of Miamisburg; one grandson, Anthony Smith of Germantown; three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Arpp & Root Funeral Home, Germantown. Burial was in Germantown Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Germantown rescue squad.

Miss Rebecca Ellen Smith--The death of Miss Rebecca Ellen Smith, 49, occurred at the Dayton State hospital at noon Sunday. She had been an inmate of that institution for several years. Undertaker J. S. Coffman took charge of the body, and will send it to New Madison for burial.

Roy Smith, 41 years old, of 209 Burns avenue, died at 11:05 o'clock Thursday morning at Miami Valley hospital, where he was taken Tuesday. He is survived by one son, James Smith of 1308 East Fourth street. The body was removed to Frank Riesinger funeral home.

Died at Residence on West Market Street, Wednesday Morning

Mrs. Sarah Elmira Smith, aged 74 years, widow of the late Charles Smith, died at 7:30 am Wednesday, at her late residence on West Market Street. She had been in ill health for the past four months but as only bedfast for ten days.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walter Stiver and Mrs. Roscoe Peck of R.R. 2, Germantown; three sons, Walter and Hiram of Germantown, and Jess of near Miamisburg; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm at the residence. Burial will be made in the Germantown cemetery.

GM 3/C Smith, a graduate of Roosevelt high school, died Sept. 9, 1943 in Salerno, Italy. He was an employe of Delco Products division of General Motors Corp. and a member of Euclid Avenue EUB church.

Surviving besides the parents are a sister, Miss Florence Elizabeth Smith, and a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James C. Smith of West Milton.

SON KILLED IN THE PHILIPPINES

Balhazar Smith, who lives at Metz and Burkhardt avenues, called at the courthouse Monday to attend to the legal formalities necessary to secure the effects of his son, William Smith, who was killed in the Philippines by an explosion, Aug. 22. The father has just received word of the tragic death of the son, and with it came the instructions necessary to secure the return of his son's property. Young Smith enlisted in the army July 6, 1900, and upon his discharge found employment with the civil government in the islands. The explosion which cost his life happened in the construction of the Benquet road.

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Snelgrove, 68, who died Sunday morning at her residence, 101 E. Snyder, Charles, age 70, of 4019 Wolcott Pl., Englewood, passed away Monday, September 17, 1984 at his home. Mr. Snyder was born in Dayton, January 30, 1914, retired from Delco Products where he belonged to the 25 Year Club, a member of The Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, St. John's Lodge No. 13 F..7A.M., Scottish Rite, Mad River Twp. The body of Jacob Snyder, 60, Miamisburg, O., found dead by a fellow prisoner at the station house at 2 o'clock Sunday morning, has been identified by relatives and taken the Miamisburg for burial. Snyder was arrested at Third and Grosvenor streets Saturday night and locked up at the Station house on a charge of intoxication. Coroner Otto investigated. Death was probably due to heart failure.

Mrs. Katherine Snyder, 80, wife of Julius Snyder, a native of Wapakoneta, died at 4:30 Saturday afternoon at her residence, 359 Henry street, Dayton. Mrs. Snyder and her husband moved back to Dayton about seven years ago after several years' residence on Cass street, east end of the city. She had previously, during the earlier part of her married life, resided in Dayton. She was a daughter of Michael and Mary Weiler Bubp, early residents of this city. Surviving are her husband, Julius Snyder; two sons, Albert Snyder and Edward Snyder, and a daughter, Mrs. Eva Eichman, all of Dayton, and a daughter Mrs. Phil Rensch, Cass street, Wapakoneta. Chas. Bubp and Mrs. Lucetta Bechdolt of this city and Mrs. Lucy Rohrbacher, now visiting Cleveland, are brother and sisters. MOTHER VISITS HER SON; DIES SUDDENLY

The death of Mrs. Barbara Florence Speck, 60, a life-long resident of Dayton, occurred suddenly Thursday night at her residence, 311 Clay street. Death was due to natural causes, according to the report of Coroner Willoughby. It occurred shortly after she had returned from a visit to her son, John Speck, 133 Sherman street.

She leaves two sons, John Speck and William Munger. The body was turned over to Undertaken Westbrock.

Services for Clarence E. Speed, 59, of Richmond, Ind., a former Dayton resident who died Saturday at Reid Memorial hospital in Richmond, will be conducted at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Bethel AME church in Richmond. Burial will be in Earlham cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Flood and Mrs. Eleanor Hunter, both of Richmond; a son, James E., of Dayton, and nine grandchildren.

CONDUCTOR HIT BY AUTOMOBILE DIES OF HURTS

Chauncy J. Spillers, age 35, married, conductor on the Green Line division of the City Railway Company, received injuries which caused his death fifteen minutes later, when struck by an automobile in front of the company's office on West Third street, shortly before 8 o'clock Sunday evening.

The automobile was driven by Joseph Hemberger, 206 Alberta street, who was questioned later by Coroner J. W. McKemy and Lieutenant Tom Lanker at police headquarters, and released.

The conductor had just alighted from his care and is said to have started to run across the street toward the railway company office when struck by the auto.

Witnesses carried the injured man into the office, where he was attended by Dr. F. L. Siveley. Internal injuries are believed to have caused death. Coroner McKemy was notified and directed the body be taken in charge by Undertaker A. R. Lyday, Third and Olive streets.

Spiller's parents and other relatives live in Versailles. He came here two weeks ago to enter the employ of the City Railway Company, and a few days ago was joined by his wife and two small children, who have been living at 122 Marion street. The funeral arrangements were being deferred Monday pending the arrival of relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Molly Spivack, formerly of Dayton, who died Sunday night at her residence in Detroit, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the residence of Mose Spivack, 375 Kenwood av. Burial was made in the House of Jacob cemetery. She was, before her marriage, Miss Molly Bilenkin of Dayton.

Mr. Srode died early Thursday at St. Elizabeth hospital after a long illness. A life resident of Dayton, he had been a baker at the Dayton Bread Co. nine years.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia L.; a daughter, Virginia; a son, Donald Robert; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Landis and Mrs. Beeeie Caverlee, and four brothers, William, Robert, Charles and Walter, all of Dayton.

F. M. ST. PIERRE RITES TO BE HELD TOMORROW

Funeral services for Frank M. St. Pierre, 49 years old, who died at 4:30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 720 Cincinnati street, will be conducted at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the residence. Burial will be made in Memorial Park cemetery.

Mr. St. Pierre was a native of St. Anne, Ill., but lived in Dayton for the last 20 years and was a meat cutter for the Kroger company for 16 years.

Survivors include his widow, Carrie M. St. Pierre, two sons Leslie and Walter, two daughters Dorothy St. Pierre and Mrs. Dick Scott, two grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters.

ANOTHER GYPSY BURIED IN DAYTON

Another member of the famous Stanley family will be laid to rest in the Stanley lot at Woodland cemetery Monday morning at 10 o'clock, when the body of Maggy Anna Stanley will be interred near the grave of "Sugar" Stanley, one-time prosperous king of the gypsy tribe.

The deceased was a sister-in-law to the famous "Sugar," and died last Monday in the camp at Pineview, Ga. Her son, Richard Stanley, of 21 Air street, was informed Saturday night by telegram of the coming of the body, in charge of John and Paul Stanley. Mrs. Stanley was 76 years of age at the time of her death.

Funeral services Monday morning will first be held in Riesinger's chapel, and will be conducted by Rev. J. G. Mueller. Beautiful floral tributes will be placed in the grave of the gypsy woman, including some fine Georgia roses which are being brought together with the body.

Edward Stapleton, aged 50 years, died at his home, 202 LeRoy street, Saturday night, after a short illness. He leaves a wife and six children, five brothers and two sisters.

For many years Mr. Stableton has been a valued employe of Barney & Smith's car shops.

The funeral will take place Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock from the residence, and at 8 o'clock from Sacred Heart church. Interment at Calvary.

Felix D. Steece � Dies of Heart Trouble. He Was a Veteran of the Civil War

Felix D. Steece, a member of the Soldiers� Home, who had been stopping at the Herbig house for several days past, died suddenly last evening. He had not been felling well and intended to go to the Home hospital today. After supper Steece went to this room and lay down. Some time later his dead body was discovered. Corner Kline, who was summoned, attributed the cause of death to heart disease. Steece was 65 and was a member of Co. F, 115th Ohio infantry in the Civil war. The body was taken in charge by Undertaker Austin and will be removed to the Home today.

HOWARD STEUP, MANAGER OF POULTRY FARM, DIES

Christian Science services for Howard Steup, of the Roselawn Poultry farm, Salem pike, will be conducted at 8 p. m. Thursday in the Bradford and Connelly funeral home, 1849 Salem av. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Lindenwood cemetery, Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Mr. Steup, a native of Ft. Wayne and manager of the Roselawn farm since 1945, died after a heart attack at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday.

He had lived in Dayton 21 years and during that time always had been associated with the Roselawn farm. He assumed the managership after the death of Wallace J. Tibbals, whose father had started the farm. The Tibbals interests in breeding white leghorn poultry included a hatchery at 620 W. Third st.

Mr. Steup was a graduate of Purdue university and held a master's degree in poultry husbandry from Kansas State college and then became advertising manager for the Poultry Review. He came to Dayton in 1933.

In Dayton he attended the Second Church of Christ Scientist. he is survived by his wife, Judith B.; a son, James D., a student at Fairview High school; a daughter, Mrs. Judith Ann Knoblock of Lake Geneva, Wis., and a sister, Mrs. Mary Johnson of Ft. Wayne.

Funeral services of Marcus Stevens, who was found dead in bed Thursday at the home of George F. Baker, 1001 W. Third street, were held Saturday morning at ten o�clock at the residence and were in charge of Rev. I. O. Moser, of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial was made in Woodland cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Stevenson died at the Miami Valley Hospital Friday at noon. No particulars are known of her death other than the body was taken to her home, 403 South Brown street. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.

Salem, O. July 18 � Martin Steves aged about forty, unmarried, and a member of the soldiers' home at Dayton, was taken with hemorrhage of the lungs, while walking on the street this morning, and died in a few minutes. He had a furlough, and was visiting at this place.

Edwin J. Stewart, who died of paralysis of the brain at the Insane Asylum Friday, was buried yesterday at Springfield by the Grand Army.

Funeral rites for Mrs. Margaret Stewart, 80, who died Monday at 9 a. m. at the residence of her granddaughter, Mrs. Irene Screechfield, 241 Gramont av., will be held at the F. B. Banta funeral parlor, 3601 W. Third st., Thursday, at 1:30 p. m. and at 2 p. m. at the U. B. church, Third and Euclid. Dr. Gregory will officiate. Burial will be made in Hillgrove cemetery, Eaton pike.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Stella (Heitz Friend). She is survived by her husband Glenn, 2 children Sue of Kansas and Don at home. DAYTONIAN'S MOTHER DEAD

Mike Stone, 1524 N. Euclid av., left for Toledo Friday upon receiving word of the death of his mother, Mrs. S. Stone, 82, in an auto accident in that city. Stone has been an auto dealer in Dayton for many years.

Also surviving are another son, Louis, Toledo, and two daughters, Mrs. Tina Blankenstein, Toledo, and Mrs. Wolf Kurson, Columbus.

WOMAN, 76, DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Sarah Ellen Strader, 76, widow of Samuel Strader, who passed away at the home of a daughter, Mrs. S. T. Grisey, Dayton, Wednesday afternoon.

Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Grisey and Mrs. Edward Cline of Sulphur Springs; a sister, Mrs. Clara Schuder, and three brothers, William, Edward and Albert Emrick, all of this city.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the late residence and burial will be in the Zion cemetery.

Services for Mrs. Lucy E. Strong, 59, of 107 Stillwater av., who died at 3:15 p. m. Sunday at Good Samaritan hospital after a long illness, will be conducted at 2 p. m. Surviving are her husband, Percy J., three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Eggenschwiller and Mrs. Gladys Hall of Dayton, and Mrs. Ellen Steinke of Toledo; two sons, Roy and Ted of Dayton; her mother, Mrs. Ellen Olsen; a sister, Mrs. Walter Pohl, and a brother, Preston Olsen, all of Detroit, and 17 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Frank Storck, 84, who died at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, will be conducted Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the residence, 202 Haynes st. and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary church. Burial will be made in Calvary cemetery. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Barbara Storck; five sons, Peter, Nicholas, Louis, Joseph and John Storck; two daughters, Mrs. Bena Meyer and Mrs. Frances Schwindeman; 31 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral of Charles Stout, who died at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning, will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Charles Schiek, 238 Clover street. Interment will be made in Shiloh cemetery.

This afternoon at two o'clock the funeral of Dr. John Stuart Robertson will be held at Germantown, where he lived for forty years. Dr. Robertson died Sunday at the Niles sanitarium in Urbana, O.

The decedent was a nephew of Hon. C. L. Vallandigham. He was himself something of a politician in his time and was twice elected to the clerkships of the Superior and Common Pleas Courts in Montgomery county. He retired from politics after being defeated in a race for State Senator.

He fought in the civil war at 19, and was later graduated from the medical school of the University of Michigan. Germantown was selected as a location for his practice in 1869.

His wife and two daughters, Dona and Jeanie, survive him.

Frank Stuck, 36, died at his home, 1326 Germantown street, Sunday afternoon, after an illness of pneumonia. He had been a bottler at the Dayton Brewing company for some time. He leaves his widow, two sons, his mother, three brother and four sisters. He belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose, which lodge will hold services at the house Monday evening.

Elizabeth A. Stutelberg, 76, formerly of 244 Fillmore street, died at 11:20 a.m. yesterday at the Rahn rest home, Miamisburg after a three-year illness. A native of Cincinnati, she lived in Dayton for 70 years. Surviving are a son, Charles F., and a sister, Mrs. Clara Coleman, both of Dayton. Services will be conducted at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Luthman funeral home 364 Xenia avenue. A requiem high mass will be sung at 8:30 a.m. at St. Mary church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 tomorrow.

In this city, on Tuesday morning, 25th instant, John Grove Stutsman, aged about 53 years. Funeral this Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from the family residence, on First street, near St. Clair. Services by Rev. Mr. Colby. Interment, Woodland Cemetery. Friends of the family are invited to attend.

James Sullivan, three-day-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Sullivan (nee Fox), died at the residence, 317 Chicago av., Wednesday at 11 a.m. Besides his parents he is survived by one sister, Evelyn G. and his grandfathers, James P. Sullivan and William H. Fix. Burial will be in the cemetery at Covington, O., Friday.

CITY RESIDENT FOR 75 YEARS IS DEAD AT 90

Thomas Sullivan, 90, died at St. Elizabeth hospital, where he had been a resident several years, Monday morning.

He was a resident of Dayton about 75 years. Born in Ireland he came to this country and settled here when he was only a boy. He was once in the contracting business but had been living a retired life for years.

Surviving him are two children, Daniel H. Sullivan, 166 Union av., and Mrs. T. W. Howard, 325 Lincoln st.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock at the St. Elizabeth hospital chapel and will be private. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. The service is held at the chapel at the request of the deceased.

The sudden death of Mrs. Frances Summerhalter, who lives at 822 East Richard street, was announced in yesterday�s Democrat. It seems that the deceased went to bed at the usual time and seemed in fair health, but at half-past 11 o�clock, that (Saturday) night, her daughter entered the bedroom, and found that her mother was gasping for breath. Dr. Bailey was sent for, but before his arrival--and he came in haste--Mrs. Summerhalter had breathed her last. She has been troubled with heart disease for some time past, and it is supposed that this caused her death. The deceased was 53 years of age, Coroner Drayer will take testimony in the case today.

Mr. Charles Peter Swartz, aged 52, died at his home on the Kern farm, south of town, Friday afternoon, after an illness which confined him to his home less than a week. He had been in failing health for some time from heart trouble, but had never given up his farm work. One of the best known farmers in this section, he had by his quiet manner and obliging disposition made many friends, which endeared them to him, and who with his family feel his loss keenly.

He is survived by his wife and ten children, Nevin, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Charles of Gratis; Mrs. Gladys Alexander of Mason; Russell, of Miamisburg; and Paul, Evelyn, Betty, Geneva, Donald and Catherine at home; four brothers, Alonzo, of Buffalo, N.Y.; Walter of Tulsa, Okla.; Owen, of Indianapolis, Ind.; Monroe, of Germantown; two sisters, Mrs. Caleb Wilson, of Germantown, and Mrs. Charles Pittsinger, of Eaton.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:45, at the home and at 2:30 from the Lutheran Church, with Rev. Ralph Harshman, in charge. Burial was made in the Germantown Cemetery.

He is survived by 7 children, Walter of Cold Springs, Texas; Mrs. May Wilson, at home; Chas., of Germantown, R.R.1; Mrs. Chas Pitsinger of Eaton, Alonzo of Buffalo, N.Y., Owen, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Monroe of Sunbury. One brother, Frank of Dayton; 23 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from his late home, in charge of Rev. Ralph A. Harshman, pastor of the Lutheran Church. Burial was made in the Germantown Cemetery.

Mr. Edward Swartzel, aged 64, died at his home on the State Road, Wednesday evening, December 28, after an illness of one month. He had recently been returned from the Miami Valley hospital, Dayton, where he had been taken for treatment which failed to relieve his ailment.

He was born in German Township and head been a farmer all his lifetime.

Surviving are four sons, Clarence, of Dayton, William, Raymond and John at home, and two daughters, Mrs. Emma Howard, of Germantown and Evelyn at home.

Services were conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday from the Methodist Church, with Rev. E. S. Wones officiating. Burial is in the Germantown Cemetery.

WILBUR SWARTZEL DIES AT AGE 74; RITES YESTERDAY

Funeral services for Wilbur C. Swartzel, 74, of 435 S. Eighth street, who died Sunday, 8:45 p.m., at Miami Valley hospital, Dayton, were at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the Brough Memorial funeral home.

The Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Frease of the First Lutheran church officiated at the services. Burial was in Hillgrove cemetery.

A life-long resident of the community, Mr. Swartzel was the son of the late Frederick and Phoebe Swartzel. He was a retired employee of the Miamisburg Machine and Tool company and in earlier years had been employed by the city. He was a member of Star City Council, Junior Order of United Americans Mechanics, and of the Daughters of American Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Louella; a daughter, Mrs. Glenna Sickles of Miamisburg; a son, Paul E. Swartzel of Dayton; a sister, Mrs. Edna Gebhart of Glendale, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

The death of this old and much respected citizen, occurred on Sunday last. For many months he was confined to his bed, partially paralyzed and unable to move without assistance. Death came at last rather as a welcome visitor than an object of terror. The sore affliction of the body was a grief to the spirit, and a release from suffering was like lying down to pleasant dreams. Aleck Swaynie, as he was familiarly called, had a wide circle of acquaintances and friends, and gained a large popularity by the sincere and manly qualifies which always make a favorable impression. To say that he was "universally esteemed," a sort of stereotyped expression in obituary notices, and not always truthfully used, is no exaggeration when applied to him. Hundreds of people who knew him well and are yet present to testify, will gladly bear witness to his kindness of heart and the sincerity of his friendship. The writer of this, after an acquaintance of forty years, can look back upon his associations with Aleck Swaynie with the consciousness that during all that period, with its many changes and mutations, he recognized in the friend now dead, the qualities which entitled him to the respect and confidence of all. Mr. S. was an enterprising, public-spirited citizen, and for years was one of our most active and energetic business men. He was identified with the business interests of the canal basin from 1830 to 1865. He erected the Swaynie House in 1833, and occupied it till 1864. This house was considered for many years, one of the leading hotels in Central Ohio, and was the principal resort for all new-comers to Dayton.

Alexander Swaynie was born in Charleston, Virginia, December 19, 1803, and came to Dayton in the spring of 1824. On the 8th day of March, 1832, he was married to Anna McCandles, and three children were born to them. Of these, Mrs. L. A. Tenny is the only one living. His second marriage to Mrs. Elizabeth Conly, of Miamisburg, occurred in the winter of 1846. She survives him, having reached the age of 78 years. Naturally of a strong and vigorous constitution, it was not until about two years ago that Mr. Swaynie's health began to fail. Since December, 1875, he had been confined to his house; in May, 1876, his infirmities brought him to his bed, and during the succeeding months he suffered greatly. But up to the very hour in which his life closed, and until within a few minutes of the final change, he enjoyed the full exercise of his reason. The question of the hereafter comes into view at the death of everyone who has reached the age of accountability. People are interested in knowing in what state of mind any one with whom they were acquainted passed away from this world to that which is to come. Mr. Swaynie, during the latter period of his illness, was the subject of serious religious impressions, and expressed in his conversations the hope, almost the confidence, that his trust in that Christ who saves all who come unto him, was an abiding reality. He sought the counsel and asked the prayers of experienced Christian people. He was visited by Rev. Mr. Smith, of the First Presbyterian Church, who imparted the instruction which the sick man desired, and gave such consolation and encouragement as it was his province, as a minister of the gospel, to afford. And when life was closing, and all of earth fading, a prayer as the last utterance of the dying man.

On Wednesday, July 11th, at the residence of Mr. J. J. Smith, in Shelby county, Tennessee, Mrs. Mollie D. Swem, daughter of Doctor H. Van Thyl [sic], deceased, of this place, in the 24th year of her age. Funeral Wednesday at 3 o'clock p.m. Services at Woodland Cemetery, by Rev. Mr. Jewett. Carriages will start from the residence of Mr. Milton Bennett, No. 121 Jefferson street, at a quarter to three o'clock. Friends of the family invited.

Funeral services for Mrs. Francis J. Sylvis, 84, who died Wednesday at the home of her niece, Miss Myrtle Matthews, Newcomer apartments, will be held this morning at 10 o'clock from the home. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.
